Fanfic / X-Manson

Go To

X-Manson or X-Mansion is an X-Men fanfic by Doctor Benway that is set in an au that postulates that Charles Xavier and by extension, his X-Men are not as benevolent as they might seem. The series takes a lot of inspiration from cults of the latter half of the twentieth century. Like the Manson Family, Jonestown, and the Branch Davidians. It's a dark fic that contains plenty of easter eggs and references to the silver age and the Claremont run on the X-Men. The story is presented as a documentary that the viewer is watching, alone in their apartment while going through an entire bag of chips. You can find a reupload of it here.

Tropes:

  • Adaptation Species Change:
    • Donald Pierce was born with tentacles instead of hands in a time when such things were removed under the suggestion of doctors. Now, he sports a pair of old-fashioned prosthetic claws!
    • Slight, Due to a recent retcon, Carol Danvers is half Kree on her mother's side. Carole Danvers is however the result of an experiment by the Kree.
  • Adaptational Job Change:
    • Erich Lehnsherr is a professor.
    • Maddie Pryor is a waitress.

  • Adaptational Sexuality:
    • William Drake, (Bobby Drake's father) is a gay crossdresser, rather than the stiff conservative that he is in the comics.
    • Carole Danvers is noted as being as having some sapphic tendencies and a fixation on women with a stripe of white in their hair.
    • Possibly Callisto, but it's arguable that comic book Callisto is very gay.
  • Adaptational Villainy:
    • Charles Xavier is a murderous cult leader with delusions of grandeur. That's all before discounting the racism built into his cult's structure.
    • Ororo Munroe is the current head of the cult who insists on being referred to as "Your Highness".
    • Logan is a murderous little thug and a rapist.
    • Cable is a delusional mercenary who has a tendency towards cannibalism, animal abuse, and assault.
  • Alternate Universe: As noted in the description, the entire universe is different. Some things are the same as the mainstream Marvel Universe, though. Mutants exist, The Avengers exist, and SHIELD exists. But things are a bit askew. For starters, Carol Danvers is renamed Carole Danvers and lost her powers permanently after Rogue took her powers from her. Anti-Mutant Bigotry is rendered differently. While the government isn't sending murderous robots after them, Mutants aren't well-liked. Despite many of them like an elderly Erich Lensherr being integral to society's functioning.
  • Body Horror:
    • Rogue will not rot after her death.
  • Brainwashed and Crazy: It's implied that Xavier has not only done this to people who have tried to infiltrate the cult, but also everyone in Westchester.
  • Breeding Cult: The Cult that Xavier is running is attempting to bring about a pair of twin mutant messiahs. Namely a boy and a girl named Rachel and Nathan. In order to do this, the cult has begun breeding its various members.
  • Demonic Possession: While not technically demonic Charles is able to transfer his consciousness into Kitty Pryde's body.
  • Composite Character: The surviving children of Jean Grey are portrayed as autistic, not unlike Claudette and Nicole St. Croix.
  • Decomposite Character:
Cable, Nathan Summers, and Nathan Grey: They're all separate characters.
  • Dude, She's Like in a Coma: Subverted, in a moment of weirdness Carole Danvers thinks that Rogue is in a coma and thinks that a kiss will wake here up. It goes almost without saying that it doesn't work.
  • Head Crushing: Bruce Banner's Alter Ego accidentally crushes Cable's head by shoving it into a psicage that is too small.
  • Hollywood Autism: Nathan and Rachel are described as being nonverbal and prone to staring, but other than that do not display any recognizable autistic traits.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Cable kills all of the members of The Six Pack save for Domino. Following that they grind them up and serve them to the potential new students at Xavier's open house.
  • Memory Wipe Exploitation: Psychics in Xavier's cult tend to do a thing that's described as "coring" someone. They mostly did this to the women of the cult. Hollowing out their minds so they could be used as puppets. Notably, this happened to Betsy Braddock and possibly many others.
  • Our Presidents Are Different: Doctor Benway notes in his introductory chapter that the presidents in this universe are different. Between 1956 and presumably 2001, the presidents were McCarthy, Kennedy, Johnson, Johnson, Kennedy, King, Bradley, Kennedy, Kennedy, Rodham, Rodham, and Rush.
  • Organ Theft: In addition to all of the weird cult things, Xavier and Hank McCoy are also harvesting organs from the mutants living in the mansion.
  • Satanic Panic: In the Emma Frost chapter, there is a brief description by one of her former students, Shinobi Shaw. It describes Emma in her comic accurate attire molesting her students in some kind of fever dream scenario. It's a lie of course. He and Xavier cooked it up after she attempted a raid on his school and after Shinobi was expelled from the Massachusetts academy for possession of cocaine. In full, the whole moment is very reminiscent of the McMartin Preschool testimonies.
  • Spared by the Adaptation:
    • Doug Ramsey and Tarot for now at least

  • Race Lift: Betsy Braddock is an Asian woman who was adopted by a wealthy white family in England. Rather than being her brother, Brian's biological sister who gets Body Swapped with an Asian woman.
