Fanfic / When An Idol Meets Metal

Go To

When an Idol Meets Metal is the Fan Fiction story of Oshi no Ko by azlil7.

The story begins when Ai has an accidental, yet fateful meeting with Seiya Kinzoku, a vocalist of the metal band: Chasers. Seiya ends up inviting Ai to come to the Shimokitazawa Shelter on Saturday for the Chasers' performance, the day before B-Komachi's performance in the Tokyo Dome, in which she accepts his invitation.

Official summary: When Ai accidentally bumped into a stranger on the street. Neither of them knew how that small interaction would not only alter their lives, but the music industry altogether (Ai X OC) (Ai lives fic).

When an Idol Meets Metal contains the following tropes:

  • But Not Too Foreign: Seiya is revealed to be half-Japanese and half-American White.
  • Culture Clash: As the title suggests, Idol Singer music is a very different genre from Heavy Metal, with the characters of each genre adapting to the other.
  • Dies Differently in Adaptation: Unlike canon, where Ryosuke committed suicide, he gets run over by a truck when trying to escape the police.
  • Irony: Despite the contrast between the Idol Genre and Heavy Metal, they do crossbreed like with the Real Life BABYMETAL.
  • Mythology Gag:
    • When giving an alias to Seiya in their first meeting, Ai introduces herself as "Akane Hoshino". When down the line in canon, Akane Kurokawa would study Ai's history and character in-depth as a way to become Aqua's "ideal woman", as well as part of her method-acting.
    • As Seiya kindly, but bluntly, critique the positive and negatives of Ai's performance in the Tokyo Dome, Ai gets imaginary arrows lodged into her person. Like Akane's example above, Kana Arima would suffer the same thing when hearing about her Former Child Star status.
  • Original Character: The whole band of Chasers: Seiya "Hook" Kinzoku: vocalist, composer, and lyricist, Roki "Rock" Sasaki: lead guitarist, Hiro "Hero" Murakami: rhythm guitarist, Yuma "Yams" Yamaguchi: bassist, Shouta "Shooter" Umino: drummer. And their manager is Sayaka Sasaki, Roki's wife.
  • Point of Divergence:
    • After Ai's meeting with Seiya paved the way for the "Chasers" band to become part of Strawberry Productions.
    • Due to Ai figuring out that a stranger was at the door, she lives past her fated event and Ryosuke dies of a truck crash instead of suicide.
  • Smart Ball: Ai grabs this in chapter 3, as instead of answering the door straight away, she calls out for Ichigo and Miyako's names. When they don't reply, it quickly dawns on Ai's mind that it's a complete stranger (Ryosuke).
  • Spared by the Adaptation: Thanks to remembering what Miyako to her a week ago, to answer only to her and Ichigo at the door, Ai did not opened the door and managed to call the police to fend off Ryosuke and he got himself killed by the incoming truck at the traffic when he was chased by the police.
