- Big Brother Instinct: Don becomes this as he worries about his brother's safety after Charlie gets stabbed the first time when working the case and nearly loses control in the process and almost forgets to show his badge to the officer.
- Charlie also gets this in the younger brother version, as he worries about Don being under pressure to solve the case as quickly as possible and does what he can to help.
- Don get this way again when he refuses to leave Charlie's side when the younger Eppes gets attacked again.
- First-Name Basis: Don tells Officer Lukasiewicz to just call him Don when they meet at the scene when Charlie gets injured.
- First-Person Perspective: The fic is narrated by one of the visiting professors, Maggie Cole, at the beginning of the story and continues for the rest of the story.
- Original Character: Ben and Maggie Cole, two professors who help with the missing Manet.
