The Magic Alchemist
is an AU crossover between The Owl House and Fullmetal Alchemist. Taking place in Amestris’s equivalent of the modern day, long after the adventures of the Elric brothers, the story begins with a young Luz naively trying human transmutation, losing both her arms in the process. Years later, Luz stumbles into the Demon Realm, which has never seen anything like her alchemy before...
- Adaptational Badass: Luz is an alchemist in this AU, having learned from Camila, and thanks to her failed human transmutation, is capable of using alchemy with just a clap of her hands like the Elrics.
- Ban on Magic: It's briefly mentioned that the Fuhrer after Mustang tried to make alchemy illegal for anyone other than military personnel to use, with Luz herself having been born not long after the revolution this incited, which causes her to see the parallels to that event in the Coven system.
- Disabled in the Adaptation: In this AU Luz lost both of her arms in an attempted human transmutation and has to use automail prosthetics.
- Fusion Fic: The story combines the Owl House Earth with the one from Fullmetal Alchemist, with Luz living in Amestris long after the events of the latter series.
- Posthumous Character: All of the Fullmetal Alchemist characters are dead of old age by the time Luz comes to the Isles, though Mustang is briefly summoned by the Wailing Star from a copy of his biography that was somehow in the library, and he gives Luz some of his notes on flame alchemy while he's there.
- Wrong Context Magic: Alchemy and the magic native to the Boiling Isles are explicitly distinct things. Luz initially thinks that the difference is merely one of terminology, like with Shing, but Eda packing up her stand into a bundle less than a tenth of the size it realistically should have been quickly proves her wrong.
