The Heirs to the Mantle
is a Halo and Inheritance Cycle crossover fanfiction found on Fan Fiction.Net written by Anomynous Member 117. The story currently has 25 chapters.
While Master Chief Petty Officer John-117 and the UNSC Infinity make it to the planet Sanghelios for peace talks after being invited by Thel Vadam/Arbiter, a Covenant Storm fleet attack with a glassing beam and the Infinity must go through Slipspace to regroup at Reach, only for a Storm torpedo to damage the Slipspace drive and instead send the Infinity to Alagaesia just after the Battle of Farthen Dûr. After hearing of the cruelty of King Galbatorix, John, Thel, and the rest of the Infinity ally with Eragon and the Varden.
Anomynous Member 117 has stated that the story was inspired by Captiosus' Turn of the Tides.
The Heirs to the Mantle contains examples of:
- Anachronism Stew: Justified by Galbatorix's nukes, which he created with the radiation from magic.
- Back from the Dead: Again justified when Brom is brought back to life in chapters 16 and 17, because of how advanced the UNSC's medical technology has become.
- Big Damn Heroes: John saves Eragon, Saphira, Thel, and Fireteam Crimson from the Shade in chapter 14, and then kills the Shade.
- Curb-Stomp Battle: Taken to an extreme in chapter 16, where the army at Gil'ead has 100,000 soldiers but lose three quarters of their army while not even scratching the UNSC's troops.
- Fantastic Nuke: Galbatorix's primitive magical nukes.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: Galbatorix flies into a murderous rage whenever anything doesn't go his way.
- Living Weapon:Brisingr is revealed to be sentient in chapter 20 and speaks telepathically.
- Powered Armor: The UNSC create highly advanced combat armor for Saphira.
- Too Dumb to Live: The Imperial soldiers seriously think they'll be safer underneath the Scarab, and just before, they tried to overwhelm it through numbers.
- Your Head Asplode:Chief blows up a Laughing Dead soldier's head with several Needler shots in chapter 14.
- Zerg Rush: In chapters 12 and 14, respectively, the Empire tries to overwhelm the Varden and UNSC and then a Scarab and 20 Locusts through sheer numbers.
