Fanfic / The Esper of UA

Go To

Tatsumaki was just your 'average' (and powerful) teenage girl with an esper-like quirk when she met a teenage boy named Izuku Midoriya. Now, because of an incident, she's forced to go to a high school for upcoming heroes with quirks. How will that go?

The Esper of UA is a One-Punch Man/My Hero Academia crossover written by Man of cartoons. In this story, in a world that is a fusion of the worlds of the two, Tatsumaki is forced to attend UA along with Izuku and the fic follows their quest to become heroes. However, Tatsumaki's rare quirk makes her a target for villains, particularly another esper named Psykos, who plans to destroy humanity.

The story can be found here.

Beware of unmarked spoilers.

The Esper of UA contains examples of:

  • Adaptation Amalgamation: The world in which the story takes place has both quirks and monsters.
  • Adaptational Backstory Change: In this story, Tatsumaki, Child Emperor, Garou, Genos, and Mosquito girl (though still originally created by Genus in her case) are all products of Oxform Labs, a now-defunct "research facility" created by Psykos and Sweet Mask.
  • Adaptational Badass:
    • In One-Punch Man, King was just an ordinary person with a terrifying and fiction-filled reputation, whose feats of strength were all performed by Saitama. Here, he has a Quirk and hero training. Still nothing deserving of his reputation, but enough to make him tougher than the average person.
    • All of the heroes from My Hero Academia are more powerful than their canon counterparts, as the power levels in One-Punch Man are much higher than those of My Hero Academia.
    • Psykos: This is possibly one of the biggest examples of this for while she isn't a pushover in canon OPM. Here she is significantly more powerful, gets her hands dirtier and is pretty much the series Big Bad. Giving even Tatsumaki a run for her money.
  • Age Lift: Tatsumaki is a case of being Older Than They Look and is 28 when she debuted in her home series. Here, she's a teenager who is roughly 14 when the story starts. Similarly, Fubuki also gets this treatment, being roughly 9.
  • Ascended Extra: Mt. Lady is this for being one Saitama's Hero School Best friends that reunited after so many years apart.
  • Future Me Scares Me: A separated aspect of Psykos identical to her past self expresses disgust at what she has become.
  • Reluctant Hero: Tatsumaki has a rather low opinion of the hero industry, and only joins UA because she was forced to.
  • Throw the Dog a Bone: In canon Saitama for all his power, is thought to be a cheat and a fraud for a multitude of reasons. Here because Hero society is a lot more established for generations while in OPM it's only been around for a few years, Saitama was already aiming to be a Pro Hero when he first started instead of becoming a registered hero much later. So the public actually adores and recognizes him (though he prefers a quiet lifestyle) and is the number 3 hero.
  • The Starscream: Garou to Psykos.
