Summer Camp Wawanakwa is a Total Drama fanfiction by Scalene_Waffles.

In this AU, the original contestants from Island are 10-11 year-olds attending summer camp, headed by counselors Chris and Chef.

The fanfic can also be read on Fanfiction.net here.

This fanfic contains examples of:

  • Adaptational Gender Identity: In the main show all of the characters are assumed to be cisgender, here Noah is portrayed as a transgender boy.
    • Alejandro is also a transgender teenaged boy.
  • Adaptational Heroism: In canon, Alejandro was "the Archvillain"; manipulative, cruel, and ruthless. Here, he's a genuine Nice Guy who comforts Noah when he's at his most miserable.
  • Adaptational Personality Change: Gwen is more social with the other children from the start, as opposed to her teen self being more aloof before eventually warming up to others.
  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: Characters that were eliminated early and had little interaction with the other contestants are able to develop more meaningful relationships in this adaption. One example is Ezekiel who is far less isolated than his canon counterpart and has become friendly with both Izzy and Harold.
  • April Fools' Day: On April 1st, 2022, a chapter was released in an alternate universe where Don and Blaineley were counselors for kid versions of the Revenge of the Island contestants. Don remarks throughout the chapter how something feels off about their situation.
  • Beach Episode: Chapter 9, "Sometimes Life's a Beach".
  • Establishing Character Moment: Chapter 1 is all about these and Chris first meeting the kids. While some are similar to the first Island episode, there are also others that are different. DJ is shown more as a Shrinking Violet, Trent rushes off the boat specifically to be the ninth camper introduced, Gwen excitedly asks about dead bodies of counselors of the past, and Noah is dragged out of the boat last by Chef in protest.
  • Filthy Fun: Izzy and Ezekiel gleefully play in the mud and rain in chapter 6, and eventually get Duncan outside for a mud fight. A chapter subplot is Chris trying to get them back in the main lodge.
  • First Period Panic: Happens to Noah in Chapter 7, which Chris is complete unprepared for. This is what leads to Alejandro and Sierra getting hired in the next chapter.
  • Fun T-Shirt: Everyone wears the same red and green camp shirt with a "W" on it. The kids have different modifications to their shirts to match their personalities. For examples, Duncan's is cut in several places from scissors, Gwen's is covered in paint splatters, Heather's is embroidered with real jewels.
  • Ghost Story: Gwen tells a scary ghost story in chapter 5, "The Tale of the Killer Star", which successfully scares most of the kids, especially DJ.
  • Instant Bandages: Lindsay and Tyler have multiple bandages on their arms, and each gain one on their face immediately after an injury. Their different bandage collections are are the topic of their first conversation.
  • Lethal Chef: Chef, like canon, makes food of questionable edibleness.
    • Izzy and Ezekiel in chapter 7 make Chef "tomato soup" out of leftover pizza, whole oranges, and an entire rack of spices. Justified since they're kids.
  • Moment Killer: Cody's still this to Gwen and Trent (although here it's unintentionally wanting to talk to both of them as opposed to trying to impress Gwen).
  • Motor Mouth: Izzy, who chats Chris' ear off in most of chapter 3 about her whole life story.
    Chef: "That girl can TALK?!"
Chris: "Yeah it's getting her to shut up that's the trick."
  • Mythology Gag: A few:
    • Gwen and Duncan's hair are splattered with teal and green paint respectively, the colors their teenage selves' hair is dyed.
    • Owen wears a red camper's vest like his younger self did in his crayon tall tales.
    • Noah has a blotch of zinc on his nose, like he had in the original Total Drama script.
    • In chapter 5, DJ stumbles upon the confessional outhouse. It's also mentioned in Gwen's story (and confirmed by Harold) that cameras are still scattered around the island (though as part of an abandoned movie set).
    • Owen's letter in chapter 10 starts with the first 2 lines of the Total Drama theme song.
  • Nonconformist Dyed Hair: Gwen and Duncan's hair are brown and black respectively, but splattered with teal and green paint as a Mythology Gag.
  • Older Than They Look: Cody is one of the kids who's already 11, but is shorter than the rest of the campers and looks closer to his Dramarama counterpart. The face that his camp shirt is around 2 sizes too big doesn't help either.
  • Pranking Montage: Chapter 7 has one in the beginning of Duncan and Justin pranking Noah in various methods (as revenge for telling Chris about the cliff dive). They plan more for the day which leads to...
  • Prank Gone Too Far: Duncan and Justin eventually break Noah to crying after dumping Izzy and Ezekiel's "tomato soup" on him...unaware that he's going through his first period.
  • Puppy Love: Although they're not the main focus, some of the canon pairings from the original show are teased throughout the story with their younger counterparts, including Courtney/Duncan, Gwen/Trent, and Lindsay/Tyler.
  • Rain, Rain, Go Away: Chapter 6 features a bad thunderstorm hitting the island. Instead of playing football outside like they were supposed to, Chris improvises the campers playing dodgeball inside the main lodge. Subverted with Izzy and Ezekiel, who enjoy playing out in the storm.
  • Second Episode Introduction: Izzy doesn't appear until the end of chapter 2.
  • Security Blanket: DJ has a stuffed rabbit named Bunny that he carries around almost everywhere.
  • Shout-Out: Bridgette mentions her dad works at Surfer's Paradise.
    • Owen has a cheeseburger backpack.
    • The song Trent sings in the talent show is the first verse of "Wonderwall".
    • In chapter 10, Eva and Cody start to sing the first lines of "My Name Is" before Chef stops them to sing something more appropriate.
  • Spinoff Babies: A fanmade example; the 16 year old Island contestants are 10-11 years old here. Averted with Alejandro and Sierra, who are both still 16.
  • The Stations of the Canon: Some of the canon elements are still present, but with the context changed. For example, some of the challenges are changed to activities that the kids asked for before they arrived at camp (ex. Trent asked for the talent show in Not Quite Famous).
  • Summer Campy: The titular Camp Wawanakwa, but played straight as a functional summer camp instead of the setting of a reality show.
  • Teen Hater: Chris, just like in canon. He considers the only benefit from working with children being that he doesn't have to work with teenagers. And eventually he has to do that anyway too.
  • Wild Child: Chris and Chef initially believe Izzy is this, since they first meet her growling and running on all fours. Later they're proven wrong when they learn Izzy can actually talk and walk.
