In the final days of the war for Cybertron, Megatron and Airachnid had a child named Shadowstreak who was designed by Megatron to be the heir to his goals. However, Shadowstreak ended up in a human homestead after he is accidentally sent off in an ejection pod when he and his mother attempted to leave Cybertron, living his days out in relative peace and quiet. That all changes when the Autobots and Decepticons bring their conflict to Earth, and now he has to forge his own path amidst the fighting between the two sides.
This fic provides examples of:
- Adaptational Villainy: Megatron was already a brutal warlord in canon, but here it's all but implied that he raped Airachnid to produce an heir to inherit his twisted goals!
- All There in the Manual: The author's ability breakdown chapter for Shadowstreak outlines all of the abilities that he has from the Dark Spark.
- Antagonistic Offspring:
- Shadowstreak may be Megatron's son, but he will step in to stop his father's aims if necessary. The same applies for his mother Airachnid given that he didn't spend any of his childhood years with her, meaning that he reacts appropriately to Airachnid's twisted nature.
- Nightblade is implied to be the daughter of Arcee and Tailgate, who are Autobots, but is an assassin for the Decepticons thanks to Decepticon experimentation.
- Anti Anti Christ: Shadowstreak is effectively one considering that he's the host of the Dark Spark, an Artifact of Doom made from a fragment of Unicron's malignant power.
- Being Tortured Makes You Evil: It's implied that Nightblade became the lethal Decepticon spy she is via the brutal experiments they conducted on her.
- Benevolent A.I.: Savior 3's shipboard AI Teletraan 3 (a. k. a. Syphir Magnus) is this, even more so when it is revealed that she is the daughter of Ultra Magnus who, after suffering critical injuries, was uploaded into the ship's database.
- Child by Rape: Shadowstreak was born thanks to Megatron deciding to procure himself an heir by raping Airachnid.
- Continuity Nod: In chapter 23, Megatron briefly wishes that the Decepticon Justice Division (yes, that Decepticon Justice Division) were around to help him keep the more unruly 'Cons in his ranks in line.
- Desecrating the Dead: The Dark Spark grants Shadowstreak the ability to reanimate dead Cybertronians with the Dark Energon flowing through his body, but he chooses not to use it since he sees it as defiling the corpses of those who already died.
- Heroic Bastard: More on the Heroic Neutral side, but Shadowstreak nonetheless qualifies as one for not supporting his father's warmongering goals.
- Heroic Sacrifice: Elizabeth takes a blaster shot for Miko when the Decepticons arrive in Jasper, sending Shadowstreak into an Unstoppable Rage that causes him to massacre the Decepticon squad attacking his home.
- Jerkass: Grimlock disparages Shadowstreak and the other neutral bots as "cowards" for not taking sides in the Autobot-Decepticon war.
- Knight in Sour Armor: Shadowstreak isn't a bad individual by any stretch, but has little love for the Autobots and Decepticons due to his adoptive parents dying in the crossfire of their conflict.
- Like Father, Unlike Son:
- Megatron is one of the most evil and ruthless Cybertronians to ever exist. Shadowstreak is much kinder than his dad and wants nothing to do with his plans or the Autobot-Decepticon war.
- Nightblade is the daughter of Arcee and Tailgate yet is a Decepticon assassin.
- Locked Out of the Loop: Shadowstreak has absolutely no clue about Cybertronian culture nor the Autobot-Decepticon war due to being raised by humans for most of his life.
- Mama Bear: Oddly enough, Airachnid is shown to care for her son Shadowstreak in her own twisted, overprotective way.
- Mass "Oh, Crap!": All of the Autobots have this reaction in the prologue when they find out Airachnid has a sparkling with her.
- Mythology Gag: Much like his Rise of the Dark Spark counterpart, Lockdown is on Earth to track down the Dark Spark and claim it for himself.
- Ragtag Bunch of Misfits: So far, Shadowstreak's team consists of two Vehicons who defected from the Decepticons and a shipboard AI who actually is the daughter of Ultra Magnus.
- Sins of Our Fathers: Averted; the Autobots only regard Shadowstreak's parents as enemies and never try to harm Shadowstreak because of his heritage.
- Taking the Bullet:
- Elizabeth takes a shot from a Decepticon to protect Shadowstreak.
- Shadowstreak takes a shot from Grimlock meant for Steve.
- Tyke Bomb: Shadowstreak had the Dark Spark implanted in him while he was still a protoform as part of Megatron's plan to acquire the perfect heir to his villainous legacy.
- Unstoppable Rage: Shadowstreak goes berserk when his adoptive parents are killed, going on a rampage so brutal that Breakdown calls in a Groundbridge to escape his wrath.
