Death greets Gohan at the end of the Cell Games, yet instead of passing on to The Otherworld, Whis takes an interest in the young saiyan's incredible power and decides to train him as Lord Beerus' successor. With the balance of the universe at stake, Gohan accepts the deity's offer. Yet there is a prophecy on the horizon along with an ancient evil threatening the universe as they know it. Throw in a junior apprentice struggling between what is right and wrong in the realm of Gods. Will Gohan become the next God of Destruction of Universe 7? Or will he return to Earth and put the universe in danger?
Son Gohan The Destroyer provides examples of:
- Adaptation Relationship Overhaul: After Gohan's mysterious disappearance, Goku and Vegeta seemed to have forgone their old bloodthirsty rivalry and instead reformed it to be much healthier and friendlier. They now spar together regularly and even invite their sons to join them occasionally.
- The Bait: Due to Gohan's small stature and the enemies' constant fatal tendency to underestimate him, the other candidates always agree Gohan should be the bait. Plus, it helps that since he's such a powerhouse Gohan could get himself out of any mess he gets himself into if anything goes wrong.
- Big Eater: Gohan, obviously but the whole Sayian race counts as these which is something the other fellow apprentices have quickly come to discover when they ate with him the first time. The others were either disgusted, shocked, or a mixture of both.
- Birds of a Feather: Gohan and Perses seems to have a lot of similarities that even Gohan took notice. They're both halfbood's, both had inadvertently gotten their fathers killed by their incredible hidden strength, and they were both spirited away to become the new God of Destruction before they could reach the Otherworld.
- Dark and Troubled Past: Kratos gets one as we soon learn. Apparently, he use to be a hero and the strongest of his people a long time ago. He use to be known as Kratos the Great throughout the galaxy but his second in command Zelus soon grew jealous of his fame and status and betrayed him. He took revenge by unleashing a great evil Kratos once sealed away onto Styx which ended up killing all of his entire planet. After Kratos heard Zelus was behind it all it nearly broke him and he was forced to kill his brothers in arms. Its no surprise after all of that the guy has some serious trust issues.
- Faking Amnesia: It's what Gohan comes up with as an excuse to explain his suspicious lack of knowledge about the past eight years he was gone to Videl when she catches him visiting his grave during an undercover mission on earth.
- For Want Of A Nail: The entire reason events started spiraling out of control was because of Gohan's premature death he suffered from his injuries at the hands of Perfect Cell during the tournament. Gohan still couldn't be reunited with his family and friends because he technically wasn't dead and the dragon balls can't interfere with the realm Gohan was sent to. Meanwhile, after Goku hears his son went missing and not even the dragon balls can bring him back, he decides to come back to life and help them find his son the old fashioned way.
- Half-Truth: In order for Whis to get Gohan to agree to training under him to become the next god of destruction, he told him that the universe would collapse on itself in a couple hundred years due to Beerus not having a successor and not being able to find anyone else with Gohan's potential. That was all true but he conveniently left out the part about where he already has more apprentices he's training to take Beerus' place. He only wanted Gohan because of the impressive display of power he felt while he fought in the Cell Games.
- In Spite of a Nail: Gohan still uses the Z-Sword only earlier then in Canon and it was how he was picked as the new successor to the God of Destruction out of all the candidates.
- Microts: Gohan has to get accustomed to using takks now as it's the universal measurement of time. Apparently, 2 takks equal about 5 minutes on earth.
- My God, You Are Serious!: After Makhai confesses to Gohan that Frieza killed him way back when, Gohan admitted that he fought him once- back when he was five. Makhai, for good reason thought he was playing a Practical Joke on him... until caught sight of Gohan's Death Glare that is...
- Professional Killer: Alala use to be one back when she was alive. She admitted back then that she enjoyed her job and loved every kill. That is until she found out she was only a pawn to the people she was working for the whole time. Then she changed sides and fought the people who raised her- that's why later King Yemma found her hard to judge later after she died.
- Secret Secret-Keeper: Thanks to gossip among the gods King Kai put the pieces together and realized that Gohan was the new successor to Beerus. Because of his previous experience with him destroying part of his planet, he has rather mixed feelings on Gods of Destruction. He knew Goku was deeply hurt by the "death" of his son and didn't want to burden him or his friends with the knowledge of Gohan training to become the new God of Destruction believing that would just hurt him in the long run. Especially, when he was only starting to move on.
- Training from Hell: What Gohan goes through with Beerus and occasionally Whis. He's admitted that he usually ends up at the bottom of the crater when the lesson finishes.
