- Despite being an agency of psychics, the Psychonauts assume that the Amity Park ghosts are merely hallucinations.
- Maddie is rather dismissive of the idea that psychics could exist despite studying ghosts for a living.
- Be Careful What You Wish For: Sam has wanted Danny's parents to realize that they were wrong about ghosts being Always Chaotic Evil for years. After they all see what happened to the Box Ghost because of Raz, however, she and Danny agree that they didn't want it to happen as it did.
- Closet Geek: Sam's dad secretly collects comic books, including True Psychic Tales.
- Government Conspiracy: It's hinted that the Guys In White/Ghost Investigation Wing are deliberately suppressing scientific papers by the Fentons on ghosts.
- Rule of Cool: Raz thinks that Motherlobe and Fenton Works are very unsafe and unrealistic. He guessed that some things are too cool to worry about safety.
- The Insomniac: After Raz emerges from the Box Ghost's mind, Milla reveals that he has severe insomnia. He often works himself to the bone so he'll be tired enough to fall asleep, though Milla can use her powers to send him to dreamland instead.

- While waiting for Raz, Sasha is reading a book implied to be Artemis Fowl.
- After the Lunch Lady steals his wares, an annoyed hot dog vendor says he's moving to Tremorton.
- Snipe Hunt: Sending Raz to Amity was supposed to be this; as a distraction from a surprise party for him. Unfortunately, it turns out that the ghosts there are more than just psitanium-induced hallucinations. Oops.
- Weirdness Magnet: Raz's tendency to keep running into weird stuff even by Pyschonaut standards is lampshaded. Otto is barely surprised to hear that Raz ran into real ghosts, and Truman has said that if he uncovers another two conspiracies, he'll get free lunches in the Motherlobe cafeteria for a year.
- Workaholic: Because of his insomnia, Raz often works himself to the bone so he'll be tired enough to fall asleep at night.
