Fanfic / Owls and Bats Actually Can Get Along

Go To

Cassandra Cain only wanted to spend her summer working out, traversing Gotham City, and finishing her one-woman show. However, those plans changed when she ended up in another dimension to make sure her adoptive little sister, Luz Noceda, doesn't get killed while trying to become a witch. Not a bad trade-off, all things considered.

Owls and Bats Actually Can Get Along is a crossover between The Owl House and DC Comics written by FoxOnPie, the same writer as Neither a Bird nor a Plane, it's Deku!, Ars Goetia, and The Superheroics of Haruhi Suzumiya, where Cassandra Cain is adopted by the Nocedas years before she can make it to Gotham City and, years later, joins Luz when she goes to the Boiling Isles to watch over her while she trains to become a witch. Owls and Bats Actually Can Get Along provides examples of:

  • Abled in the Adaptation: While she still has problems communicating, Cassandra is a lot better at speaking and reading, most likely because she spent far less time not knowing how to communicate than in the comics.
  • Adaptational Badass: Cassandra has been giving Luz martial arts lessons for an unspecified amount of time, resulting in her being a full-fledged Action Girl.
  • Adaptational Sexuality: Cassandra and Stephanie Brown are dating in this story.
  • Adaptation Name Change: At some point, Cassie Sandsmark stopped going by Wonder Girl and became "Diespiter".
  • Age Lift: Damian is sixteen in this story whereas he's usually depicted as being thirteen at the oldest in various media.
  • Author Appeal:
    • The author has often expressed his love of the character Jarro, so it's no surprise that Jarro is mentioned to be Batman's sidekick.
    • The author also ships Batman and Wonder Woman, and as a result, the two are Happily Married in this universe.
  • For Want Of A Nail: Cassandra Cain is adopted by a family—the Nocedas—years before she can make it to Gotham City and become Batgirl.
  • Happily Adopted: Cassandra is adopted by the Nocedas before the start of the story.
  • Innocent Fanservice Girl: Cassandra spends over an entire scene walking around in nothing but shorts and a tank top, and all she cared about was whether or not it was enough clothing to count as being half-naked.
  • Mythology Gag: The outfit Eda gives Cassandra is the same one used in Luz's concept design.
  • Related in the Adaptation: Eda mentions that her great-grandmother was a reincarnation of Hawkgirl.
  • These Hands Have Killed: When Cassandra accidentally knocks off Eda's head, she has a major freak out because she believes she killed her, not knowing that Eda's still perfectly fine.
  • Unrelated in the Adaptation: Aside from dating Stephanie Brown, Cassandra has no connection to Batfamily on account of being taken in by the Nocedas years before she normally would have ended up in Gotham City, and as such, isn't Batgirl.
  • Waif-Fu: Luz shares this with Cassandra, thanks to years of martial arts training.
