Go To

A re-telling of V7, where Winter Schnee does everything in her power to protect Ironwood. Even if that means going against the very "allies" she holds so near and dear. But will it be enough to save Atlas from it's untimely end? Or will they destroy themselves from within?
— Summary from Fanfiction.net

Ironside is a RWBY fanfic by GodHand96.

This is an Alternate Universe Fic of Volume 7 where Winter takes great exception to the actions of the heroes as of late and takes charge to put them in the right direction. Few can tell what consequences will become of her decisions.

Needs Wiki Magic love.

This work provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Karma: In the canon series, Blake and Yang leaking the Amity Project to Robyn doesn't lead to consequences until later in the volume, where even then, the consequences end up vindicating her. Here, however, Yang spills the tea to Robyn by herself, and everyone's opinion of her immediately sours.
  • Adaptational Origin Connection: Fria and Maria Calavera were old acquaintances during their younger years and when Maria was allowed to visit Fria, they catch up on old times by the time Winter arrive to check on her. Fria also happens to know Caroline Cordovin as well.
  • Brain Uploading: Of sort as Ozpin's soul was eventually transferred to an android body made in likeness of the Beacon Academy's headmaster, freeing Oscar from being fully assimilating his soul.
  • Both Sides Have a Point: Winter tells Yang that she needs to apologize to Weiss when she wakes up, stating she had no right to take her frustrations out on her. In retailiation however, Yang royally calls Winter out for manipulating Weiss into revealing the truth about Ozpin and the lamp, adding that Vine's Heroic Sacrifice could have been avoided if she had revealed the truth about the Maidens.
  • Breaking the Fellowship: Team RWBY broke up after the members were in a heated argument and Ruby was helpless to stop it.
  • Deep South: Dubnar is this in the Atlas military, described to be speaking with a southern drawl, wearing a torn Atlas uniform, and has a distinct lack of teeth and strong smell of tobacco as he served as the driver of the truck carrying supplies for the Amity Coliseum.
  • Death by Adaptation: Tyrian Callows dies at the hand of Qrow Branwen during the attack on Atlas.
  • Full-Conversion Cyborg: Averted as Ironwood had his cybernetics removed and his organic body regrown by advanced Atlas medical technology. He volunteered first as his Semblance can help him handle through the entire surgical procedure. And there were others in the Atlas military including Anna Brosnan who volunteered to have their cybernetics removed.
  • Heroic Lineage: Oscar's aunt Harlequin revealed to him that his deceased parents were Huntsman and Huntress who protected their home village with their lives and she was proud of her nephew following their footsteps.
  • Hypocrite:
    • Teams RWBY and JNR along with Qrow insist that Ironwood can't be trusted because he took a day to inform them that someone was murdering his political rivals. At the same time, they're trying to justify why they're withholding far more critical information, such as the Relic of Knowledge still having one question left, for weeks.
    • Yang is the worst of the group, trying to hide from everyone that her mother is the Spring Maiden, despite knowing how important said information is. All the while, she's one of the most insistent that Ironwood can't be trusted for withholding information.
  • Mildly Military: Winter notes that despite Atlas military being known for its serious and disciplined forces, there were some eccentric soldiers within the ranks such as Ace-Ops and Lieutenant Anna Brosnan. However, they can be serious when the situation calls for it and proved why they earned their ranks for a reason.
  • Mistaken Identity: Arthur Watts mistook Ruby Rose as the new Winter Maiden, unaware that Winter Schnee is one all along.
  • Named by the Adaptation: Oscar's nameless aunt in the show was given the name of Harlequin Pine.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero: To say that Winter dropped the ball on things would an understatement of the highest order. Following Team RWBY's arguement, she manipulated Weiss into revealing their secrets and spitting them apart, leading Weiss to blackmail Ruby into telling Ironwood the whole truth. This leads to Yang revealing the Amity Project to Robyn and Blake's vigilantism in Mantle, which would lead to Accidental Murder. Then, after becoming the Winter Maiden and during the Grimm attack, Winter barely reacted to a bomb being thrown at her, which led to Vine having to sacrifice himself to save her. And all because she didn't reveal that she was the new maiden.
  • Noodle Incident: Winter walked in on the janitor's closet where Anna and the Atlesian sergeant were having fun inside there during her patrol at 2am in the morning. She had to see a therapist after witnessing a horrid experience.
  • Obfuscating Stupidity: Maria calls Fria as this during their younger years at Atlas Academy, acting like a "giggling bimbo" to throw off others into underestimating her.
  • Ordered Apology: Yang gets this from several people, demanding she apologize to Weiss and Blake for her insensitive remarks during their argument.
  • Poor Communication Kills: Both Yang and Winter are guilty of this. Yang witholding information about her mother being the Spring Maiden and Winter hiding that she is the new Winter Maiden creates all sorts of problems for themselves, the people around them and Atlas as a whole.
  • Put on a Prison Bus: Blake is sentenced to 40 years in prison, with an eligibility for parole in 15.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: Winter and Ironwood both make a point of accommodating the heroes when they can and explaining why not when they can't. They also arrange for Oscar to contact his aunt, who hasn't heard from him in nearly a year and whom he merely left a note saying he had to leave.
