Hyrule Castle High
by Rhaylt Zheirt is a High School AU based off of The Legend of Zelda. The story is a nondescript mash-up of different games. Despite being in a more mundane and contemporary setting, it keeps several core elements of the franchise, such as the Fictional Pantheon of Hyrule.
Link is a teenage boy who would do anything for his little sister Aryll, even at the expense of his own schooling. His best friend Sheik, known to most as Zelda Harkinian, is secretly trans, with Link being one of the few who knows. The two support each other through high school at Hyrule Castle High. Along the way, they meet various classmates.
Hyrule Castle High provides examples of:
- Adaptational Gender Identity: Rather than Sheik just Zelda being disguised as a boy to hide from Ganondorf, he is a trans boy who chooses the name Sheik.
- Adaptational Job Change: Hyrule doesn't have a monarchy anymore. Instead, Sheik's father is a senator rather than a king.
- Composite Character: Link has elements of the Ocarina of Time, The Wind Waker, and The Minish Cap Links.
- Disabled in the Adaptation: Link's sister Aryll is autistic. In The Wind Waker, she doesn't seem to be.
- Fantastic Racism: Nabooru suffers from anti-Gerudo racism.
- High School AU: Several of the Zelda characters go to Hyrule Castle High together.
- Patchwork Fic: Characters from different games, including Ocarina of Time and The Wind Waker, co-exist together.
