hood & glove is a Yuri!!! on Ice fanfiction written by Fahye and illustrated by hawberries. It can be read here on Archive of Our Own.

The story is an Alternate Universe Fic: specifically a Transplanted Character Fic set in a magical land featuring Slavic Mythology and The Fair Folk.

Otabek Altin, our point-of-view character, is a hero who protects his home kingdom from all manner of beasts, up to and including a dragon. When Victor, the King of the Fairies, falls in love with Yuuri Katsuki, a mortal, the kingdom is beset by weird weather based on Victor's moods, causing discontent in the mortal kingdom and the fae populace alike. Otabek meets and ultimately befriends Yurinote , a fairy who wants to challenge Victor for the throne.

This fanfiction provides examples of:

  • The Ageless: The fae in this story. One fae character "refers to last century in the same offhand voice a mortal would use for yesterday."
  • Blood Magic: Otabek lends his strength to Yuri by bleeding into a bowl. Yuri then reaches into the bowl of blood and draws out a sword from it.
  • Cold Iron:
    • To fight fae and other spirit creatures, Otabek slips on a set of iron rings (etched with protective sigils) that make such beings flinch away and reel in pain.
    • Otabek also employs an iron compass to cut through the disorientation caused by a ''blud'', an evil supernatural being in Slavic Mythology.
  • Elfeminate: Yuri and Victor are both examples of this trope, though it's not shown whether it's a general rule beyond those two. Yuri is androgynous enough that Otabek "has a disorienting moment of being able to discern neither gender nor age" upon first seeing him, and Victor has beautiful silver hair that falls almost to his waist.
  • Eyes Are Mental: Played with. Yuri's eyes are green in all the various forms he employs, including as a tiger (which usually have yellow/amber eyes), and as an albino raven, which Otabek notes should have red eyes, but doesn't. However, Yuri can apparently alter the shade of green to appear more human, thus disguising the sparkling golden-green that his eyes are in his true fae form.
  • Fairy Ring: One of Yuri's attempts to trick Otabek is to get him to step into one of these—here a ring of stones instead of mushrooms, making this a variation on the trope—under the guise of "dancing."
  • Fairy Sexy: Some of the most poetic writing in the entire fic is employed to capture just how beautiful Otabek thinks Yuri is, to the point that he assumed Yuri's form was tailor-made to appeal to him.
  • Fairy Trickster: Yuri, who spends the first part of the story trying to trap Otabek in order to gain his strength. Otabek ends up giving it to him anyway.
  • Food Chains: Yuri tries to trap Otabek with a gift of sweet dark cherries. Otabek sees right through it, but it's implied that if Yuri had succeeded, Otabek would have been under Yuri's control. This is a variation on the usual trope since the offer of food occurs in the human kingdom rather than the fae kingdom.
  • Pointy Ears: Spotting these on Yuri is part of what convinces Otabek that he's seeing Yuri's true fae form instead of another one of his tricks.
