GATE: Of Dragons and a Spirit of Fire provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Intelligence: Pina La Colada is cognizant enough to realize that cutting a deal with the UNSC is the best option available for the Empire if it wants to avoid complete annihilation, a far cry from her canon status as a puppet ruler who was horribly out of her depth when it came to diplomacy.
  • Always a Bigger Fish: The Spirit of Fire outclasses the Empire and 21st-century Earth by its lonesome to such a ridiculous degree that the latter two can't do anything but negotiate with them.
  • Curb-Stomp Battle: So far, the UNSC has managed to utterly dominate every foe they've faced in Fantasia.
  • Expy: Word of God states Irisia La Krystall's appearance is based on Master Cyclonic from Stormhawks, Morrigan from Dragon Age, and Hela from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
  • Nickname Basis: The fantasy world connected to Earth is nicknamed "Fantasia" by UNSC personnel.
  • No Kill like Overkill: Itami notes that the Longswords basically gunned down the Fire Dragon with tank rounds after the JSDF get to investigate its corpse.
  • Normal Fish in a Tiny Pond: The Spirit of Fire is hardly the most powerful UNSC ship out there in Halo canon, but it is more than powerful enough to make the Empire and Japan look like mere ants in the setting of Gate.
  • More Dakka: The Fire Dragon is killed via high-caliber gunfire from the 3rd Recon Team's Longsword fighters after they receive a distress call from Itami's team.
  • Slavery Is a Special Kind of Evil: The Spirit of Fire crew make it clear that they do not tolerate slavery anywhere, as shown by their anti-slavery operations geared at rescuing slaves and killing slavers.
    • According to what they tell the UN delegation, UNSC policy towards slavers boiled down to "kill any slaver on sight and free the slaves".
  • Outside-Context Problem: The Spirit of Fire is this in spades to Gate Earth and the Empire.
