Friendship is Monsters is a My Little Pony: Equestria Girls fanfic written by Spotty8ee.

In the civilized world of monsters, Twilight is a teenage human who never really worries about things outside of school and personal projects. In fact, inside her gated community she's never even met any monsters.

One day when Twilight finds a vampire out on her front lawn, slowly burning alive, Twilight manages to takes them inside, saving their life and giving Twilight her first real friend. However past experiences with friendship has left Twilight nervous in this prospect.

Is friendship really not so scary? Even if your new friends are monsters?

Currently complete.

The author has written a sequel called Friendship is Monsters: Meliorism. Currently incomplete.

Friendship is Monsters provides examples of:

  • Adaptational Species Change: Many of the characters are very difference species:
    • Each of the Rainbooms were all humans who eventually gained Equestrian magic, except for Sunset was a unicorn that became a human. Aside from Twilight, all of them are a very different species.
      • Sunset was a born human who became a vampire.
      • Applejack comes from a species of sentient humanoid plants, called Tymber Dryad
      • Pinkie Pie is a werewolf.
      • Rainbow Dash is a harpy.
      • Rarity is a unicorn satyr.
      • Fluttershy is a Grand Fairy.
    • Both Luna and Celestia are vampires.
  • All-Loving Hero: Twilight shows strong tendencies to this. She seems to be nice and understanding to almost anyone and rarely holds a grudge. She was also willing to let Sunset drink her own blood even if she was a complete stranger.
  • Almighty Mom: Celestia. Comes with territory of being a God-tier Vampire.
  • Alien Blood: AJ's blood is green.
  • Fingore: Good Lord, Rarity!
  • Anger Born of Worry: None of Applejack, Sunset, or Rainbow's parents are unamused with their stunt of sneaking into a human settlement and furiously ground them for a good while.
  • Didn't Think This Through: Sunset snuck into a human gated community, thinking she would be treated like a teenager causing trouble. But as a vampire, her intrusion would not be taken lightly, since monsters traditionally intruded into human settlements for far more malevolent reasons.
  • Fantastic Racism: There is a lot of tension between monsters and humans. Twilight's own neighborhood was designed to be a monster free community while humans were (and still to a certain degree) treated by monsters as nothing but cattle for consumption.
  • Fantastic Slur: One of the titles some monsters assign human beings is "stock". This term is especially offensive, since it harkens back to a time when human beings were treated by the monster community as nothing but a snack.
  • Healing Hands: Healing Saliva, potent enough to fix ripped body and reattach limbs.
  • I'm a Humanitarian: Very popular practice in the old times. Currently banned. It's said that many long living monsters miss the taste of human flesh.
  • Interspecies Friendship: The core of the story.
  • Friendly Neighborhood Vampire: Sunset and her adoptive mother Celestia are both vampires and more or less benign beings who won't harm another human. However, the latter wasn't always this way, and slaughtered humans without mercy.
  • Took a Level in Kindness: Celestia, of all creatures. She used to be tyrant capable of drinking a whole village of humans without hint of remorse. In modern times she acts more like her show counterpart.
  • Urban Segregation: Human beings tend to isolate themselves from monster communities. Twilight lives in a community that is more or less designed to separate humans from the monster community.
  • Vampire Bites Suck: And how! Twilight even lampshades that it's nothing like in the movies. No two little pinpricks on her neck but shoulder being ripped with sharp teeth until teeth reach the bone, messily slurping the blood while tongue laps at the blood like a dog. Painful and messy, it would have killed Twilight if not for Sunset's healing saliva.

Friendship is Monsters: Meliorism provides examples of:

  • Broad Strokes: Sunset's backstory is broadly similar to her canon backstory: she was a spoiled brat who wanted power and use underhanded methods to win them, until she was defeated, humbled, and sought forgiveness from those she tormented.
