‘’Don’t Think About It
’’ is a Rick and Morty one shot fanfic by TwistingMoonbeam.
Morty considers his crazed grandfather to be a heartless asshole with even more heartless advice. But for once, Morty wonders whether his grandfather is offering genuine advice rather than being awful.
‘’Don’t Think About It’’ contains the following examples:
- Beneath the Mask: Despite being tired of Rick mistreatment of him, Morty realizes that underneath the violence, alcoholism, and insults, Rick is a deeply broken man trying to cope with a broken universe.
- Just Ignore It: Played for Drama. Rick turning a blind eye to many horrors isn’t apathy or cruelty, but a way he copes with seeing so much horror and evil in his line of work.
- Pet the Dog: Morty internally deconstructs this trope, noting Rick’s scant moments of humanity don’t detract from how batshit and unpleasant he is.
- Powered by a Forsaken Child: Downplayed. Children don’t power the Krimchar gems, but since they can only be held by children, King Cleeto is happy to brutally exploit them as mine laborers.
- Would Hurt a Child: Morty is horrified that the king they are visiting gleefully and remorselessly uses abused child laborers to dig out gems.
