Fanfic / Death Echoes

Go To

death echoes is a Danny Phantom and DC Comics crossover, in which Danny is crowned as the new Ghost King, and is initially unaware that his coronation is felt beyond the Infinite Realms. Now the attention of the Justice League is firmly on Amity Park and Phantom, giving Danny another headache to deal with on top of handling his sudden boost in power.

  • Anger Born of Worry: When Danny calls Dani after waking up in the Watchtower, she is fully in this mode.
  • Awesome Moment of Crowning: The story starts as Danny is in the middle of preparations to be crowned the Ghost King, and his coronation proper soon follows.
  • Big Sister Instinct: When Dani disappears instead of going on patrol with Valerie, Danny is instantly worried.
  • Boring, but Practical: Apparently the Justice League uses fruit of all things in their training exercises. Fruit is easy to get, and if a hero with Super-Strength knows how much force to use to redirect a piece of fruit thrown at them without pulverizing it, handling regular humans is a lot easier.
  • Does Not Know His Own Strength: After he becomes the Ghost King, Danny's powers are boosted to the point that he keeps accidentally destroying things. He's getting better over time, but he's still being extremely careful regarding touching his loved ones.
  • Fallen Hero: According to Constantine, Pariah Dark started out good, but something caused him to go crazy and begin a murder spree before he was sealed away.
  • Mr. Exposition: Deadman is the one that clues the Justice League into the fact that there's a new Ghost King, with a little help from Constantine on what the Infinite Realms are, and later he's the one who passes onto the League that Phantom is the new Ghost King.
  • My Significance Sense Is Tingling: When Danny is crowned, everyone on Earth, and maybe further, with a connection to magic or death feels something in proportion to their level of power.
  • Our Ghosts Are Different: Deadman is noted to be distinctly different from the Ghost Zone ghosts, having been bound to the mortal plane by magic instead of remaining behind due to an obsession.
  • Poor Communication Kills: The Justice League was initially unaware of the Guys In White's agenda and the Anti-Ecto Acts. As a result, Danny nearly bolts as soon as Batman arrives with GIW tech he used League resources to obtain.
  • Locked Out of the Loop: Most of the Justice League has no idea of the situation in Amity Park before Danny is crowned, in part because Constantine marked the city as a place to avoid at all costs in the League files, hoping to avoid a scenario where someone like Superman ends up overshadowed and used to cause mass destruction, though even he was aware that the Fentons or their technology capable of harming ghosts existed. Similarly, they're almost entirely unaware of the Anti-Ecto-Acts and the existence of the Guys in White before their meeting with Phantom, with Batman having found out about the latter when he was researching for said meeting.
  • Rubber Man: Danny is a bit more flexible after his coronation as he literally ties himself into a pretzel trying to do stretches before sparring with Superman. This prompts the latter hero to pull up training exercises for Plastic Man, and while many of them are beyond Danny's abilities to do, it helps him better understand his new limits.
  • Walking Techbane: Unless it's properly engineered, mundane technology doesn't work well around high levels of ectoplasm, Danny is able to cause a Justice League communicator to let out a massive burst of static just by waving an ecto-charged hand near it.
