Camila Versus is a series of The Owl House fanfics by runemyth0.

The first installment, Camila Noceda Versus The Demon Realm is an alternate take on the first season, in which Camila is just a little faster to come back home and take Luz to summer camp. As such, while she misses seeing her daughter enter the portal, she does manage to encounter Vee before she can shapeshift into Luz. What follows is Camila and Vee both heading to the Boiling Isles in order to find the younger Noceda and rescue her from the Owl Lady and the dangers of the Demon Realm.

The second installment, Walnut Season acts as the second season. Following the events of the Conformatorium, Luz and Vee must work together to find a way back to Earth, while Hunter struggles to decide between his devotion to his uncle and the allure of his new found family.

  • Adaptational Early Appearance:
    • Camila runs into Vee in the timeframe of the first canon episode, much earlier than in canon.
    • Hunter is assigned the task of finding Camila, causing him to appear early in the season one timeframe instead of first properly appearing in season two.
  • Badass Normal: Even without glyphs, Camila is still fairly capable at fighting off coven scouts and other threats through melee combat alone. She even skilled enough to serve as an actual challenge to Hooty, who is able to effortlessly fight off groups of Emperor's Coven goons and Lilith, to his joy and amazement.
  • Hidden Depths: Hunter has a fondness for music, and has been secretly taking lessons from Raine.
  • I Know What You Fear: Like in canon, Grometheus is able to read minds and then shapeshift into that person's fears. It's seeing that her mother's greatest fear is that Luz actually ran away because she hates that finally gives Luz the courage to finally talk to Camila.
  • In Spite of a Nail: Several of Luz's earlier adventures are more or less unchanged despite Camila's presence in the Isles. Partly because Camila is busy having her own misadventures across the isles, and partly because she deliberately sticks to the shadows to give Luz space to grow and mature, after verifying that her daughter is safe.
  • Missed Him by That Much:
    • This is lampshaded by Camila when she's looking for Luz at the Covention and she keeps just missing her. She eventually complains that either Luz is actively avoiding her or some cruel god is conspiring to keep them from meeting, and admits she isn't sure which option would be worse.
    • When Camila goes to Glandus to see if she can find Luz there, it's during the game that Luz wanted to go to, only to end up dealing with the Bat Queen.
  • Point of Divergence: The series revolves around the idea that Camila followed Luz into the woods just a little faster than in canon, so she sees Vee go through the portal and take on Luz's form. She then goes into the portal herself with Vee looking for Luz, which causes numerous changes to canon:
    • Willow meets Hunter during the events of season one and, even sees him without his mask, thanks to him trying to go after Vee.
    • Luz is the one whose memories are destroyed instead of Willow's, as Amity is distracted by the realization that Willow has been hiding the fact she knew Camila is in the Boiling Isles from Luz, causing them to fight.
    • Season 1 still ends with the portal door being destroyed, but Luz and Vee push Eda, Lilith, King, and Camila through it before doing so, trapping them on Earth while the girls remain on the Boiling Isles.
  • Poor Communication Kills:
    • Willow meets Camila and Vee soon after the former arrives on the Isles looking for Luz, with Gilbert and Harvey letting them stay at the Park home, but Willow doesn't initially say anything to Luz because Luz had said Camila was on Earth, and by the time that she realizes that Camila isn't an impostor, she's realized that Camila wants to talk to Luz herself.
    • Discussed in regards to Hooty, who not only encounters Camila when the woman shows up to the Owl House wanting to speak with her daughter, but also befriended her after a prolonged fight. When he mentions this to everyone in the Owl House after Luz has already discovered her mom is in the Demon Realm, Luz privately notes that there's a pretty good chance that he had already mentioned this to at least one of them previously, but that they had either tuned him out or cut him off out of habit (which was indeed the case).
    • Thanks to him missing a meeting, and no one telling him after said meeting is over, Hunter ends up being unaware of his mission with Graye until the day of.
  • Volleying Insults: Eda and Camila engage in this as part of their constant arguments after Camila and Luz finally meet up and reconcile. The verbal spats between them gets so bad that Luz is actually surprised when Eda reveals she wasn't serious about letting Lilith capture Camila and is willing to protect her.
Eda: [shocked] What? We might argue a lot, but she’s your mom! I’m not going to separate you two so soon after you met back up.
