Go To

According to Persephone is a My Hero Academia fanfic by MamaDonovan with two sequels of following the two endings, Queen of the Underworld and Goddess of Spring.

When All Might and her mother are kidnapped, Izuko is forced to make a deal to save them. She must accept Shigaraki's hand in marriage, which means abandoning her life and friends and dreams at UA and joining the League of Villains in the underground. But she will not let this destroy her spirit. She will make the best out of her bad situation and maybe even turn the tides in her favor. If she can hold onto the goodness inside of her, she can push through the hell she will endure.

Warning: the story has dark themes.

This fanfic has the following

  • Adaptation Relationship Overhaul:
    • Zig-zagging. Izuko and Bakugo were a couple here. While in canon, they were bully and victim. However, their relationship was still wasn't a happy one with Bakugo not treating Izuko right.
    • Ochaco has romantic feelings for Izuku in the canon series, while in this the two are just best friends who care about each other.
    • Izuko's and Tomura's relationship here. The actual series has them as enemies who hate each other. Here, however, Tomura forcibly made Izuko into marrying him by threatening to have her mentor and mother drown. As the story continues, they came to understand each other.
  • Age-Gap Romance: Izuko ends up falling in love with Tomura for real.
  • All Girls Want Bad Boys: Izuko dated Bakugo before she was given One For All and she ends marrying Tomura Shigaraki against her will.
  • And Now You Must Marry Me: Tomura forces Izuko to marry him when he threatens to have her mother and All Might drown if she doesn't agree.
  • Child by Rape: It's heavily implied that Izuko's and Tomura's unborn child is this.
  • Childhood Friend Romance: Izuko and Bakugo dated before the events of the story. However, their relationship wasn't a good one, and they broke up when they went to U.A. High.
  • Dark Mistress: Izuko forcibly becomes this once she married Shigaraki. In Bad Ending and Queen of the Underworld, she fully embraces this role.
  • Disappeared Dad: Hisashi only mentions a few times in the story, but he never appears as while his reaction to his daughter's kidnapping remains unknown. It's heavily imply that he's All For One.
  • Dude Magnet: A lot of male characters are shown to be attracted to Izuko.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Like in canon, Tomura cares about his adoptive father and teacher, All For One, and the League of Villains. He even comes to genuinely love Izuko.
  • Gender Flip: Izuko is a female here instead of a male.
  • Good Girl Gone Bad: As the story continued, Izuko is starting to act more and more like a genuine member of the League of Villains. In Bad Ending, Izuko chooses to with Tomura and the other members of the League of Villains as a way to help them as well as finding out about she's pregnant with Tomura's child. However, she still has her heroic traits in her regardless of these decisions. Subverted in Good Ending, after rejecting Tomura, manages to legally divorce him, and return to her old life at U.A. High.
  • Marital Rape License: Tomura believes it's not rape if Izuko is his wife. Though, he does admit that it doesn't matter as he never cares about the law anyway.
  • Multiple Endings: The story ended with two different endings when Tomura goes to U.A. to get Izuko back. In "Good Ending", Izuko rejects Tomura, legally divorce him, and goes to Sir Nighteye to began her internship with him. In "Bad Ending", Izuko decides to leave with Tomura instead and return to the League of Villains to help them in her way along with the reveal that she's pregnant with Tomura's baby. Both endings are follow up with their own sequels to show how Izuko deals with her decisions from the endings.
  • Parental Substitute: In Queen of the Underworld, Izuko acts like a mother figure to Eri.
  • Rape as Drama: Izuko is rape multiple times in According to Persephone by Shigaraki.
  • Shipper on Deck: The League of Villains, especially All For One, greatly supports Tomura on his relationship with Izuko.
  • Villainous Crush: Tomura had one on Izuko for a while before they were married. It's even shown that both Dabi and Spinner also have crushes on her. Overhaul even ends up developing romantic feelings for her in Queen of the Underworld.
  • Would Hit a Girl: There is a tone of (older) male characters having no problem hitting Izuko.
