* NotMeThisTime: When Bailey sees Shepard and Miranda standing outside the burning wreckage of an opera house, he asks Shepard to be honest about how bad their mission is going to be. Shepard quickly stops him, since he had ''nothing'' to do with this- the opera house was destroyed by competing Asari pianists who got into a fight, while he and Miranda were going to go on a date to see the two Asari perform.

Added DiffLines:

*** During some downtime on the Citadel, Shepard lets one of his friends use his Spectre code to help get supplies moved around, which create antics lifted straight out of the episode "Treachery, Faith, And The Great River," where Nog was the one with the Code.
*** The Salarians show up to the final space battle in a nearly identical way to the Klingons in Operation: Return.

Written by [[http://www.fanfiction.net/u/2035529/Random-Equinox Random Equinox]], this fanfiction series is a novelization of the ''Franchise/MassEffect'' series with a spacer/war hero Shepard, with an interesting twist - it is run as a sort of biography [[ATrueStoryInMyUniverse compiled and edited by Anderson and later Liara]] from Shepard's [[AfterActionReport After-Action Reports]] and personnel evaluations. Thing is, this isn't the brazen badass Shepard that most players know. Instead, Shepard's true personality is not unlike that of Literature/CiaphasCain - he just wants to be someplace safe and not in the middle of the fighting, having become the hero of the Skyllian Blitz by accidentally leading a ton of batarians into an allied force that he didn't even know was there.

* FootnoteFever: Justified, as the story is apparently compiled from Shepard's after-action reports, and Shepard (as well as Anderson and Liara) help fill in some of the gaps. In addition, the story is based at least partially on the ''Literature/CiaphasCain'' novels, which made extensive use of footnotes as well, and in much the same manner - snarky asides, clarifying certain points, and interjecting personal opinions on the part of the author of the footnotes.
* ForWantOfANail: Despite his lesson about YouCantFightFate, there is one change that [[spoiler: Stephen Shepard enacted during his TimeTravel adventure on the final timeline - convincing Jien Garson that the anonymous benefactor that could help her fund the [[VideoGame/MassEffectAndromeda Andromeda Initiative]] was a fraud, eventually leading to the whole project being scrapped and the resources funneled into the Crucible and the Reaper war effort.]]

** Shepard and Miranda get in on it too - instead of the canon tryst in the engine room, they do it in the cargo bay.

* ThePrankster: Shepard is one; ''The Prankster's Hero'' details some of his antics during his time in training, and ''The Hero Who Loved Me'' details how he nailed most of his crew on April Fool's Day. He also took great relish in probing Uranus and trolled Kasumi to a degree by walking back and forth in front of contact advertisement until she got annoyed - just to see what she would do.

** A variation - Change Option A. [[spoiler: With his long-lost father's know-how and some random data packets obtained through his adventures, Shepard manages to enact the Crucible's Destroy option without committing synthetic genocide and minimizing the collateral damage to the mass relays.]]

* SlapSlapKiss: Shepard and Miranda's first kiss happens right in the middle of an argument about Miranda being jealous of Shepard. Shepard deliberately accuses her of being jealous of him to break her out of a mental funk, which works exactly as he hoped it would in ticking her off. Next thing he knows, they're lip-to-lip.

** The sequels do the same. Shepard only goes without his full squad a handful of times, like responding to Ronald Taylor's distress call (minimal expectation of combat), going on Kasumi's Loyalty Mission (need for stealth), and Grunt's Rite (they decided that if too many came along, it would be too easy and defeat the whole purpose). Garrus is given command of the second team after he is recruited.

* GroinAttack: Upon seeing Samara for the first time, Shepard notes her deeply plunging neckline, and makes a mental note to not let his eyes wander when talking to her, lest she kill him, or worse, inflict this upon him with her biotic powers.
