*** From the same film, in the opening scene: When the unnamed CIA Agent threatens a group of blindfolded and restrained criminals on board a plane, pretending to shoot one, one of them asks: [[ArmorPiercingQuestion "Perhaps he's wondering why you would shoot a man,]] [[FridgeLogic before throwing him out of a plane."]] The CIA guy takes the hood off, Bane is revealed for the first time, and everyone [[OhCrap shits themselves]] simultaneously. Then his group of highly-trained zealots hijack the plane midflight, demonstrating very fast that Bane is both incredibly brutal and ''[[GeniusBruiser much]]'' [[TheChessmaster smarter]] than the simple brainless muscleman audiences might have expected from the likes of ''Film/BatmanAndRobin''

* ''Film/MichaelClayton'': The prologue gives us an in-depth introduction to Michael in a brief scene: he's introduced at a gambling ring dodging questions about a failed business venture (indicating he has money problems), he's suddenly called out to handle a client embroiled in a hit-and-run (telling us his job at the law firm is somewhat atypical), and when he gets there he describes himself as "the janitor" and firmly tells the client that he's probably legally screwed and can't throw money at the problem to make it go away (showing that he's got an intimate knowledge of the law and a grim attitude towards his job).

Irrelevant complaining.

** Zod is treated by some critics of the film as a tragic villain, [[http://comicbook.com/blog/2014/04/27/marvels-joe-quesada-disappointed-in-man-of-steel-says-it-made-zod-the-hero/ or even having more noble goals than Superman,]] which is altogether surprising since his very first scene is shooting an old woman in the face after declaring himself the new leader of Krypton, showing not only his unnecessary ruthlessness but also his fascism, in that he believed that he and only he knew what was best for his planet while saying it was for the good of everyone. He has another establishing moment when he and Jor-El are arguing about the genocide of humans. Jor-El tries to appeal to his empathy, and tries to get him to realize how horrible his actions are, while Zod flat out acknowledges this, and consciously chooses to ignore it.

** Denethor gets two introductory scenes, either in the extended version of ''The Two Towers'' or his first scene in ''Return of the King'', namely;
*** In the first, Boromir and Faramir are celebrating a victory, only for Faramir's mood to drop when he sees Denethor has shown up to congratulate Boromir, who's no happier about their dad's presence than his brother. Denethor then proceeds to blame Faramir for the city having been attacked in the first place and just generally criticize him.
*** In the second, Gandalf reaches Minas Tirith and, having just advised Pippin on all the things ''not'' to do to upset him, tries offering advice. Then Pippin sees an openly distraught Denethor is holding the Horn of Gondor, one of Boromir's possessions, and knows what this means. As the conversation goes on, Denethor reveals he knows about Aragon, and believes Gandalf is planning to get rid of him, something he has no intention of going along with. The Steward of Gondor is if not out of his mind then rapidly going that way, and he won't go quietly.

*** As the film opens, T'Challa and Okoye are heading out to a mission, knowing T'Challa's long-time crush Nakia is going to be involved. Despite the fact T'Challa is her king, before he jumps out of the plane, Okoye reminds him not to freeze up. Loyal she may be, dangerous warrior she absolutely is, but she is also not above sassing him.

** We meet the Treadgolds as they leave their chauffeur-driven car and instantly tell Will to drop dead, showing us that they are rich brats who have no sense of respect.
** Matron and Cook arrive at Chartham Place together, the latter drunk and the former scolding her. This sets up that Cook is an alcoholic, Matron is very prim and proper, and that the two of them will not get along.
