Ashes of the Phoenix is an Avatar: The Last Airbender fanfiction-in-progress by ff.net authors Doctor Yok and Solicide. It follows the story of four Benders — Bingwen, Peizhi, Liqin, and Jun— as well as their respective companions as they journey around the world, discovering more about themselves and the world around them as well as the most recent Avatar, who isn't whom she seems.—-

Ashes of the Phoenix provides examples of:

  • The Ditz: Shao. Constantly. I mean, she loses Liqin before she even leaves Air Temple Island.
  • Dumb Muscle: Hizu. I mean, he's strong, but he's only exceptionally bright...
  • Expressive Hair: Peizhi when she gets serious. She puts her hair down, and then she's a total badass.
  • Identity Amnesia: Well, Bingwen doesn't remember who he is because of the fact that he was too young when he left, and he might remember... someday. Someone would have to tell him, though.
  • Little Miss Badass.: Peizhi. Peizhi. Peizhi. When she gets serious, she takes her hair out of her traditional pigtails and suddenly she's, well. Badass all the way. Not like anyone can believe it, though...
  • Mysterious Past: Hizu, to a point. He was raised as a child soldier specifically for Alzin. He was trained for the sole purpose of guarding the Prince with his life, and his father was the captain of the guard and knew what he was getting into. However, Hizu was separated from him and he never knew who his father was. Alzin is the only person he knows or remembers from the Fire Nation, though he does have other memories of the Fire Nation. And then there's Bingwen, whose real name happens to be Alzin. And he happens to be the supposedly-dead Fire Nation prince. And the brother of the first Big Bad. And the Avatar. His mom decided that she liked his sister better, and sent him away to a little Earth Kingdom village. Originally, he was supposed to be taken care of, but the random person on the street that she happens to instruct to kill him ends up dying on the way there by kill of Alzin's forever faithful bodyguard, Hizu. How sweet.
  • Not Quite Dead: Bingwen, since he's supposed to, you know, be dead. But he's not. He didn't even get attempted at, but he still is alive after the plot to.
  • Sarcasm-Blind: "Oh, yes, thank you Liqin. I don't know how I would've gotten along with out you." "I appreciate your realizing how much you need me, but that tone is not needed."
  • Split Personality: Jun. Her separate personality, Phonin, was created for her need to have the talent to perform after being sold by her family to a dancing troupe in the hopes of a better life for her.
