Lee Daniels (born December 24, 1959) is an American director, producer, and screenwriter. Daniels is best known for directing the films Precious and The Butler, as well as creating the television dramas Empire and Star.
Daniels also produced Monster's Ball, and became the first African-American sole producer of a Oscar-winning film, as Halle Berry won Best Actress for her role. Daniels is openly gay, and was partnered to casting director Billy Hopkins.
