Transformers in 3-D is a 1987 comic series by Blackthorne Publishing. It only lasted 3 issues, with the final one intending to kickstart a storyline that pitted the Autobots and Decepticons against a new threat: the Destructons. The Destructons would later return in Beast Wars: Uprising.

Tropes:

  • Bad Boss: Galvatron, as per usual, is very abusive to the other Decepticons.
  • Big Bad: Galvatron in the first 2 issues and Lord Imperious Delirious in the final one.
  • Broad Strokes: This series seems to take place in a universe that is based on the cartoon, with references to Optimus' resurrection and Galvatron's rivalry with Scorponok. It can't actually be in the same continuity, however, due to Ironhide still being alive while Galvatron came into power.
  • Cut Short: The series was supposed to have at least 5 issues but only 3 of them saw the light of day with the final one ending on a massive cliffhanger.
  • Demoted to Dragon: Happens to Galvatron in the third issue, after Scorponok became the new Decepticon leader.
  • Enemy Mine: The final issue has the Autobots and Decepticons teaming up against the Destructons.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Kup sacrifices himself so the other Autobots can escape the Destructons.
  • Omnicidal Maniac: Lord Imperious Delirious and the Destructons want to destroy the entire universe.
  • Sealed Evil in a Can: The Destructons were sealed away in a dimensional barrier for millions of years.
  • The Starscream: Galvatron becomes this in the third issue, after Scorponok takes over the Decepticons. He doesn't really do much beyond fantasizing about overthrowing him though.
