A drama comic by the short-lived DC Focus Imprint.

Kinetic follows Tom Morrell, a sickly kid who develops powers of strength and invulnerability after a mysterious accident, apparently absorbing the kinetic energy of being hit by a truck. While most characters might use these powers to become a super-hero or a super villain, Tom just tries to sit back and enjoy how much being invulnerable is changing his everyday life, only to find out it isn't that convenient.

The story reached 8 issues before DC Focus was folded, and was not picked up by any of the other DC printings, with the final issue implying that his powers have faded, and Tom making peace with this.

Tropes:

  • Disappeared Dad: Based on flashbacks Tom's dad tried to stay there for him and his mom but eventually couldn't and left.
  • Interrupted Suicide: Tom was hit by a truck (and got his powers) while contemplating suicide.
  • My Beloved Smother: Tom has spent seventeen years always needing his mother and she's a bit floored by how he doesn't anymore.
  • Ordinary High-School Student: Tom fits this to a T, except for the fact that he doesn't become a costumed hero afterwards.
  • No Antagonist: There is no one going out of their way to bully Tom at every corner, no super villain responsible for his powers, and Tom himself avoids the Protagonist Journey to Villain.
  • Stalker with a Crush: Tom's behavior towards Allison, a pretty girl in his class who'd been kind of nice to him. He spies on her, although he struggles to not do this and successfully apologizes at the end, with it being implied his power was affecting his personality when he did that.
  • Superpowers for a Day: Tom's powers fade after a week or so and an attempt to replicate the accident doesn't seem to work, merely leaving him with a broken arm.
  • With Great Power Comes Great Insanity: Insanity is putting it too strong, but Tom's power makes him more insolent, recklesss and prone to ruthless thoughts, with him reflecting that it wasn't the real him as it wears off.
