Core Plot Characters
The Player Characters
A group of four travellers, captured by Gate magic and taken to the Voidspire on what would otherwise be a rather mundane day. They prove to be rather instrumental in its fate.
- Action Survivor: They start out as this. They have no weapons or armor at the start of the game, and little experience in combat. That slowly changes as they face more and more enemies.
- Everyone Has Standards: Should you choose, you can have them declare that Vise's massacre at the Displaced Street is a dealbreaker, and refuse to work with Seartial over it. This will prompt a battle where you are massively outnumbered. You can win it, though.
- Featureless Protagonist: Every feature they have is decided by the player. Their appearance, their skillset, and even their personality.
- "The Reason You Suck" Speech: Whoever's leading the team at the time can give one to Ekrast (provided the team sides with Seartial), right before his second to last fight, where they call him out on not destroying the Voidspire despite believing it could be abused. It reduces the rest of his dialog before the fight to angry stammering and gives the party a morale boost.
Celia
- A Mother to Her Men: The first time you meet her, she tells her soldiers to go on ahead of her, not wanting to risk them against something she believes she can handle herself. She will also make snide remarks about how many of her men you've killed in certain dialogue options.
- Even Evil Has Loved Ones: She has a brother named Lede who shows up later in the series.
- My Country, Right or Wrong / Religious Bruiser:She dies with Jasce's name on her lips. Whether she's referring to the nation she's from, or the god-king who rules it, is ambiguous.
- Sore Loser: Downplayed. She gets incredibly pissed if you choose to Trash Talk her after she loses, to the point she can't say anything beyond an inarticulate grunt.
Ekrast Hailane
The creator of the Voidspire. An extremely powerful Aphest mage with zero tolerance for things going awry.
- Because You Were Nice to Me: He spared Jin when he killed the rest of his team, asked him to help him in his endeavors, because they were friends. Even when Jin refused, Ekrast still only locked him in a house, instead of killing him.
- The Creon: Downplayed, in that he wouldn't have had all the power, but Jin states he was possibly on the path to becoming a member of the Council that leads Seartial. He chose to throw that all away so he could try to solve the world's problems with the Voidspire.
- Control Freak: He personally goes around inspecting the Voidspire, eliminating rogue elements with incredibly powerful magic. The first time you meet him face to face is while he's in the middle of doing this.
- Hair-Trigger Temper: Aphest are described as being quick to anger in their journal entry, and Ekrast is no exception. He will immediately start shouting and making threats if you defy him.
- Only One Name: One of the few aversions. Ekrast will introduce himself by his full name if you ask him who he is.
- The Smart One Turns Traitor: He is explicitly described to be at the top of his field, and he betrayed his country upon realizing that they would abuse his invention.
- Terse Talker: While he will answer a few questions when you first get a chance to talk to him, the only question that gets a response longer than a single line of dialogue is to ask him about where you've been taken to.
