Fayed Terrorist Cell

    Abu Fayed

Abu Fayed

"You will die for nothing."
Played By: Adoni Maropis

A terrorist mastermind who orchestrated an 11-week series of suicide bombings across the United States, as well as the detonation of a nuclear device in Valencia, California. Unknown to him, Fayed and his terrorist cell were pawns in Dmitri Gredenko's ultranationalist conspiracy to destroy the United States.

Tropes

  • Bald of Evil: Abu is bald and also one of the biggest mass murderers in 24's history.
  • Bar Brawl: How he gets captured.
  • Big Bad: For much of Day 6.
  • Big Bad Duumvirate: With Dmitri Gredenko.
  • Character Death: Jack kills Fayed by hanging him with a chain.
  • Cold-Blooded Torture: A huge fan. First he tortures Jack Bauer and then later torturing Morris with a power drill.
  • Cruel and Unusual Death: Though it's also awesome.
  • Disc-One Final Boss: Played with; he actually is the ultimate boss of his terrorist group and acts as the primary threat for most Day 6 (alongside Gredenko). He gets killed off about two-thirds of the way through the season though, and Phillip Bauer and Cheng Zhi — who are working independently of Fayed — take over as the antagonists.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Played with. He wants to kill Jack for avenging his brother's death. However when Jack escapes him he gives up following him and he doesn't even seems to care for it. Moreover it's revealed that his brother was responsible for thousand deaths. So either he's angry at Jack for having killed an useful asset or simply for a matter of honor.
  • Fatal Flaw: His pride and sadism. He could have let Jack continue rotting in China or killed him right away when he got back. But he not only had to be the one to kill Jack but couldn't resist gloating about being the one behind the attacks beforehand. This all comes back to bite him hard.
  • Irony: The fact he was undone by his own pride. He was willing to play the part and let Assad get the blame...but he had to kill Jack himself.
  • Jerkass: Even for a sociopathic terrorist, Fayed is a deeply unpleasant person.
  • Obviously Evil: Seriously, looking at this guy, who thought it was a good idea to trust him?
  • Sadist: He may kill for a cause but it's clear he also enjoys it, as evidenced by his his desire to sadistically torture and kill Jack.
  • The Sociopath: He stands out among the main Islamic terrorists (him, Syed Ali, and Marwan) as being particularly evil.
  • Start My Own: Fayed formed his own terror group when his superior Assad decided to start peaceful negotiations with the West.
  • Tragic Mistake: Fayed's is undoubtedly to try killing two birds with one stone by giving up Assad in exchange for Jack. That and taking Ahmed's phone call.
  • Unwitting Pawn: Sort of with Gredenko. While he wants to do what he does, Gredenko plans to use his as a scapegoat to create a war between US and the muslism (or maybe he knows and simply does not care).
  • You Killed My Brother: Why he hates Jack...though when Jack escapes, he doesn't seem to care anymore.

    Ahmed Amar

Ahmed Amar

Played By: Kal Penn

An agent of Abu Fayed who was charged with delivering the nuclear bomb triggers to him. After he was injured killing a racist that attacked him he took a neighboring family hostage and forced the father to carry out his task for him.

Tropes

  • Asshole Victim: He was attacked in his home by racists, but considering he's a terrorist who later takes an innocent family hostage, it's hard to feel too sorry for him.
  • Character Death: He's shot during the assault on the Wallace home, and dies en route to the hospital.
  • Disproportionate Retribution: He justifies turning on Scott and his family despite Scott being his best friend because Scott has been pronouncing his name wrong for years.
  • Even Evil Has Loved Ones: Is distressed that his innocent father was arrested, and even after he reveals his true colors states that his father had nothing to do with it.
  • I Have Your Wife: And son too, as he holds both hostage to make Ray Wallace deliver the bomb trigger to Fayed.
  • Nice Job Fixing It, Villain: His phone call to Fayed is what distracts him enough that Jack's able to escape and thus ruin everything.
  • Odd Friendship: With Scott Wallace, though it doesn't last.
  • Spanner in the Works: He calls Fayed JUST as he's getting into the torture he's inflicting on Jack, and his urgency causes Fayed to step out for a few minutes to take the call. This gives Jack the time he needs to escape.
  • Then Let Me Be Evil: It's heavily implied that he joined Fayed out of frustration with the constant bigotry he experienced.
  • Ungrateful Bastard: Despite the sympathy Ray and his family showed him he has no problem threatening them.
  • Would Hurt a Child: Though he showed some apprehension, he was willing to kill Scott Wallace and would have had CTU not barged in.

    Darren McCarthy

Darren McCarthy

https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/mccarthy_darren_8668.jpg
Played By: David Hunt

An employee at defense contractor Elegra Global who sold five Soviet suitcase nukes to Abu Fayed prior to Day 6.

Tropes

  • Asshole Victim: A textbook example of this trope.
  • Character Death: He's killed by his girlfriend.
  • Jerkass: McCarthy is a shrill, greedy, opportunistic bastard who never stops whining about every single thing.
  • Karmic Death: Murdered by the girlfriend he was do dismissive of.
  • Only in It for the Money: He has no personal loyalty to Fayed, only concerned with cash.

    Rita Brady

Rita Brady

Played By: Missy Crider

The girlfriend of Darren McCarthy during Day 6.

Tropes

  • Asshole Victim: She could have been sympathetic had she not taken Morris to Fayed.
  • Character Death: She's killed by Fayed when she tries to leave.
  • Death By Genre Savvy: After witnessing Fayed's cruelty as he tortures Morris, she quickly realizes that he has no intention of paying her and attempts to excuse herself. Doing so however alerts Fayed that she's going to attempt making a getaway and he immediately shoots her dead.
  • The Dog Bites Back: And hard...
  • Not-So-Harmless Villain: She spends most of her screentime acting as the ditsy girlfriend to McCarthy, but when they kidnap Morris to bring to Fayed, she ends up shooting McCarthy dead and delivering Morris herself (planning on keeping the cash for herself).
