Jordan Blake
The main protagonist. His father brings him and his sister on a trip to Alaska, in an exhibition to find the Abominable Snowman.
- Adaptation Name Change: The Goosebumps Graphix version changes his name to Luis Garcia.
- Badass Adorable: As with Nicole, he manages to brave the frozen wastes of Antarctica with only Nicole for company. Not bad for a 12 year old.
- Big Brother Bully: A likely unintentional example: he comes across as rather harsh towards Nicole. She is admittedly kind of a Know it all but she doesn't really mean to be and just has bad social skills, meaning his treatment of her comes across badly. One also gets the feeling he is jealous of her due to her being basically a child prodigy while he's just a normal kid.
- Fire-Forged Friends: In an unusual example, Jordan and Nicole count as this. While he actively dislikes her at first, after their adventure in Alaska where they find the snowman (complete with Nicole saving his life once) they seem to get a long a lot better.
- My God, What Have I Done?: He feels horrified and guilty when his idea to bring out snowballs from the monster's den causes Nicole to freeze up when one of them hits her.
- Platonic Life-Partners: He is this with Lauren, a girl who lives by her house. He mentions how he's been best friends with her for years.
- Race Lift: In the Graphix adaptation of this book, Jordan has his name changed to "Luis Garcia" and is shown with black hair, hinting that he has been changed to Hispanic.
Nicole Blake
Jordan's sister.
- Adaptation Name Change: The Goosebumps Graphix version changes her name to Ana Garcia.
- Annoying Younger Sibling: She annoys Jordan with her know-it-all personality.
- Badass Adorable: She doesn't do any fighting, but is pretty good at surviving in the cold for an 11 year old.
- Covered in Gunge: At one point she is having a squirt gun fight with some neighborhood bullies. She accidentally falls into the neighborhood compost heap and gets covered in slimy decaying plant matter. Jordan sees this about to happen ahead of time but just lets her fall in because he's annoyed with her at the time.
- Foolish Sibling, Responsible Sibling: Responsible to Jordan's foolish.
- Grade Skipper: She's so smart that she skipped fifth grade and got into Jordan's class.
- Hair of Gold, Heart of Gold: She's described early on as having blond hair and, once you get past her more annoying traits she has a pretty good heart as well.
- Insufferable Genius: She's really smart for her age but has pretty bad social skills, which really annoys Jordan.
- Jerk with a Heart of Gold: She actually turns out to be a pretty good person. She helps Jordan when he falls into a hole in Alaska (which is how they find the Snowman), and even seems to feel sympathy for the Snowman when he gets loose (which makes sense when you think about it: He's basically been kidnapped, is likely really hot and uncomfortable, and just wants to find some food and shelter.
- Race Lift: Like Jordan, the Graphix adaptation has her with black hair and changed to a Hispanic name.
Arthur Maxwell
The guide for the Blake family during their trip.
- Berserk Button: Do not treat the Abominable Snowman as a joke, given how much he gets angry at Mr. Blake doing so. And you really shouldn't pull a prank to trick him into thinking that the monster passed through. Jordan was quite scared at how angry this made him.
- Child Hater: He is very much not happy when he finds out that Mr. Blake brought his kids along, and really doesn't appreciate their antics and the fact that they treat the legend of the Abominable Snowman like a joke.
- The Comically Serious: He takes his job very seriously, telling the Blake family to stop fooling around and get to the cabin. He also doesn't understand Jordan's jokes at all, especially when he tries to include him in it.
- Dirty Coward: When the worst comes to show, he gathers most of the sled dogs he brought along and leaves the cabin with the Blake family inside, seemingly not caring if the Abominable Snowman attacks them.
- Ignored Expert: Every time he tries to tell Mr. Blake and his children about the dangers that come with looking for the Abominable Snowman. Whenever he brings up how they need to stay safe in the tundra, they shrug off his warnings. And whenever he tries to tell them the local tragedies that have happened from people trying to find the Abominable Snowman, the Blake's don't take him seriously. This is probably part of the reason why he decides to abandon them.
- Native Guide: He is assigned to show the Blake family their way around Alaska due to his knowledge of the place.
- Properly Paranoid: His fears of the Abominable Snowman turn out to be correct, and he leaves without finding out for himself.
- Unreliable Expositor: He tells tales about how dangerous and violent the snowman is. He's anything but.
The Abominable Snowman of Pasadena
A Yeti creature discovered in Alaska in the book of the same name. He sleeps in blocks of ice and lives in a cave filled with supernatural snow.
- Adaptation Dye-Job: Has brown fur in the book, white hair in the movie.
- Adaptational Villainy:
- He's more or less harmless in the book, but in the 2015 movie, he's straight up antagonistic.
- Downplayed in the Graphix adaptation. The ending is changed to show him about to go on a rampage in the area. This is not out of malicious intent but a result of him having a freak out because of the heat in the area, which is unbearable to him and has severely agitated him.
- Attention Deficit... Ooh, Shiny!: The first thing he does upon escaping his book is play with an overhead lamp.
- Bigfoot, Sasquatch, and Yeti: Starts off as a Yeti in Alaska, but now technically a Sasquatch living in California.
- Bighearted Bigfoot: Actually a big hearted yeti. He never harms anyone in the book and even helps the kids get out of his cave and undoes the damage his snow causes toward the end.
- Continuity Nod: His Trademark Favorite Food is referenced in the movie when he breaks into a vending machine.
- Expy: He's basically a yeti version of King Kong, complete with the "kidnapped from his exotic land and escapes to go on a rampage bit"
- Fell Asleep Standing Up: An intentionally self inflicted example. He freezes himself when he sleeps and is left in a standing position.
- Fish out of Water: When the protagonists bring him back to sunny Pasadena, he's not too thrilled about being in a warm climate.
- An Ice Person: He produces a strange kind of snow that freezes anything it touches. And he hibernates by encasing himself in a block of ice, like "Dracula in his coffin."
- Manchild: He's very curious and loves sweets. You'd probably wanna hug him if he wasn't a giant brimming with deadly supernatural power.
- Misplaced Wildlife: Yeti traditionally come from the Himalayas, not Alaska.
- Missing Reflection: He is either imperceptible to cameras or has the power to remove evidence of his existence, as he does not show up in the photos taken of him when they are developed.
- Non-Malicious Monster: He's really only dangerous if provoked, and he'll help out if his ice powers have gotten out of control.
- Starter Villain: In the movie, he's the first monster to be released.
- Trademark Favorite Food: He loves trail mix.
