[[folder: Debuting in Super Robot Wars Z]]

!Rand Travis (Voiced by Creator/YoshihisaKawahara)
-->''"THE HEAT....CRUSHER!!!!!"''

One of two halves of "Beater Services", a mechanic service, Rand Travis is the male protagonist of ''Super Robot Wars Z''. A huge guy at 27 years-old ([[AllThereInTheManual according to his official profile]]) with a good sense of humor, he is looking for his missing master Cielo Beater, and assisted by his master's daughter Mel Beater. He's known as "[[RedBaron The Crusher]]" after his tendency to destroy more things than he fixes, an InSeriesNickname he doesn't take so well. Being in the late-twenties, Rand has a lot of experience in dealing with all sorts of people, which is why he sort of tolerates Asakim Dowin, despite the atrocities he commits against Setsuko Ohara, and offers genuine, heartfelt support to her following those encounters with Asakim. He pilots the Gunleon, a ''Anime/GaoGaiGar''-like mecha carrying a huge wrench and an assortment of spanners, nailguns and chainsaws with which he can trash his enemies just as efficiently as he can repair damaged allies. He and the Gunleon exemplify these tropes:
* AttackBackfire: [[spoiler:The Sphere of the "Wounded Lion" is best against the Sphere of the "Covetous Golden Ox" wielded by Straus because the former draws its power via pain. In ''Tengoku-hen'', when Straus starts absorbing the power of the Gunleon, she feels Rand's pain]].
* BadassNormal: Rand's not a Sphere Reactor like Setsuko or Mel, but he still kicks much ass. It's pretty much required of him, since Mel is too inexperienced to be piloting a machine.
* TheBerserker: [[spoiler:The Gunleon's strongest attack could best be described as the machine ''ripping the enemy apart'' in a feral rage]].
* BerserkButton: Don't call him "The Crusher". Gilter learn this in a hard way.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: Not him, but the Gunleon; it's pretty powerful for a humble repair mecha. [[spoiler:Turns out the reason for this is the Sphere of the Wounded Lion manifested within it in an attempt to avoid being used as a weapon of war. This is why the Gunleon, and by extension Rand, [[{{Irony}} tend to destroy more than they repair]]]].
** [[spoiler:It gets even better: Cielo found an ancient SuperRobot and repurposed it to be a repair-based mecha. It seems the Wounded Lion is terrible at choosing where it manifests itself]].
* {{BFS}}: Big Fragging WRENCH
* BoisterousBruiser: An uncommon male protagonist example
* TheBusCameBack: [[spoiler:He and Mel return in the ''Second Super Robot Wars Z: Saisei-hen'', alongside Setsuko]].
* ChainsawGood: Ganleon's "Chain Decutter"
* CombatMedic: The Gunleon can repair allied units; in ''Z'', it automatically heals units paired up in the same squad with it by a small amount per turn. This marks the first time a protagonist mecha in [=SRW=] is equipped with a innate-healing ability. [[spoiler:Later, it gets the ability to resupply ammo and energy]].
* CoolOldGuy: Not really old, but mature enough that he hangs out with [[Anime/OvermanKingGainer Gain Bijou]], [[Anime/TheBigO Roger Smith]], [[Anime/EurekaSeven Holland Novak]], and [[Anime/AfterWarGundamX Jamil Neate]].
* CursedWithAwesome: [[spoiler:The Wounded Lion is easily the Sphere with the least drawbacks, since it only tortures Rand to give it power when needed for the "[[MakeMeWannaShout Pain Shout]]" and "The Heat Crusher" attacks. The Sphere is willingly holding back the usual BlessedWithSuck, otherwise Rand would be living in constant agony]].
* CrutchCharacter: In contrast to Setsuko in the first game, Rand is a crutch that players lean on during the early stages of the game. Has powerful attacks, size L, naturally acquires a level 9 Prevail[[note]]When HP is low, Hit/Evade/Crit/Armor stats will be raised.[[/note]], can repair and resupply itself, and if players are willing, can get to [[{{Cap}} level 99]] if players are willing to do the repair grind trick. He also has a sub pilot that allows him to supplement his weaknesses. Unfortunately, he can't kill enemies fast enough unlike Setsuko late-game, some of the better spirit commands are with Mel whose SP cannot be upgraded, and his FinalBoss fight is harder than Setsuko's.
* DirtyOldMan: Again, not really old, but he likes to use the UN (Universal Network) like [[TheInternetIsForPorn most of us do]]...
* EmpathicWeapon: [[spoiler:The Gunleon CRIES during The Heat Crusher animation (also counts as BerserkerTears)]].
* {{Expy}}: Lion-themed mecha? [[ImprobableWeaponUser Uses construction tools as weapons]] and has a ''really '''BIG''''' one as its most powerful weapon? Associated with/powered by a green-colored energy source? [[Anime/GaoGaiGar Check, check, and check]].
%%* HotBlooded
* HugeGuyTinyGirl: Him and Mel
* ImprobableWeaponUser: A giant spanner, mini-spanners, [[NailEm nailguns]], chainsaw blades and ''[[FightingWithChucks spanner-nunchucks]]''??
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Land Crusher"; following a certain event, ''Makenaize! Gunleon'' ("Don't Lose! Gunleon")
* MadeOfIron: [[spoiler:Activating the Gunleon's "[[SuperMode Magna Mode]]" is not a pleasant experience for Rand, because it's literally powered by physical pain. However, he'll just shake it off like nothing happened and keep fighting]]. {{Lampshaded}} by Rand with one of his battle quotes, "Gunleon! My pain won't lose to you!"
** [[spoiler:By the sequels, after using Pain Shouter, Rand will sometimes say along the lines of "Phew! Glad that's over"]].
%%* ManlyTears: See [[spoiler:EmpathicWeapon]]
* MeaningfulName: His machine likely refers to the constellation and zodiac of Leo, [[spoiler:to which the Wounded Lion is also a reference to it]].
%%* MightyGlacier: Gunleon, with the added bonus of being able to repair itself.
* MistakenForPedophile: In ''Tengoku-hen'', Rand and Mel introduce themselves and, predictably, Mer's declaration of her betrothal to Land causes a bad reaction. Clouseau and Kurz look at Rand in disgust, with the latter having the gall to accuse Rand of having no moral fibre. Land sighs, saying that he'll clarify things later.
* NiceJobBreakingItHero: [[spoiler:In ''Saisei-hen'', he gets attacked by a berserking Crowe Broust, and counters with [[NoKillLikeOverkill his usual methods]], leaing to a completely trashed Brasta]]. Just to add to the event, Rand will say something along the line of "Oops".
* ObfuscatingStupidity: Rand seems like the kind of person to use brute force for everything. [[Anime/OvermanKingGainer Sara Kodama]] even comments in ''Z'' she can't tell if he's an idiot or a freaking genius. One of his many moments of this is how he gets himself out of trouble in the beginning of the [[Anime/OvermanKingGainer Exodus]]. One of the best showcasing of this for Rand is when [[spoiler:he catches onto Löwen General's true colors pretty early and isn't surprised at all by his betrayal, noting Löwen wasn't fooling anyone after appearing to be Rand's friend]].
* RedBaron: "The Crusher", but Rand doesn't like the nickname.
** [[spoiler:Sacrifai refers to him as "Verchiel the Heat". [[GeniusBonus Verchiel is the angel that represents Leo]].]]
** RunningGag: He prefers "The Heat" monniker, instead. He ends up subverting his usual reaction to "The Crusher", on the basis that [[GenreSavvy that gag had already run its course]]. There's also his "Heat Smile", which ''absolutely'' everyone comments on as being "stuffy".
* SwissArmyWeapon: [[spoiler:The Gunleon's wrench turns into a pincer claw with a [[PileBunker ramming]] [[ThisIsADrill drillbit]] in the center for its The Heat Crusher attack]].
* SuperMode: [[spoiler:Using the Sphere of the Wounded Lion, the Gunleon transforms into its Magna Mode to perform Pain Shout and The Heat Crusher. In ''Tengoku-hen'', this ability is permanently activated]].
* UnusuallyUninterestingSight: [[spoiler:During the "Riot Wrench" attack in ''Tengoku-hen'']], players see the cockpit of the Gunleon as if they were Rand. A bell chime, notes and a picture of Rand and Mel decorate the interior, while things like a water bottle, pillow, shrine charm and a ''[[EverythingsBetterWithPlushies Gunleon doll]]'' are seen [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rINXiIs1C0c#t=2m11s bouncing around as the Gunleon hammers on the enemy]].

!Mel Beater (Voiced by Creator/MaiAizawa)
Rand's sidekick and co-pilot of the Gunleon, as well as its owner, Mel is the other half of "Beater Services"; her father Cielo was Rand's mentor. Tropes related to her include:
* ACupAngst: She's not too well endowed, much to her dismay. [[spoiler:She's the same even after [[PlotRelevantAgeUp her true age is restored]] in the ending of ''Z''. The only change is her hair...]]
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:Thanks to the Sphere of the Wounded Lion]]
* BrainwashingForTheGreaterGood: Mel creates a cult in Rengoku-Hen that chants "Gan Gan Leon, Ganleon..."
* CantGrowUp: A side effect of her coming BackFromTheDead
* ChildhoodMarriagePromise: For her, anyways; Rand agrees to marry her once her hair reaches her shoulders.
* DisappearedDad: Cielo vanished four years before the start of ''Z''. According to Mel, he got caught in the same kind of dimensional warp that brought [[Anime/AfterWarGundamX Garrod Ran]] to the [[Anime/{{Xabungle}} Gallian Continent]]. He's only seen in flashbacks [[spoiler:and when Xine Espio was disguising as him]] throughtout ''Z''. Mel hopes she will be reunited with him one day. [[spoiler:In the ''Second Super Robot Wars Z: Hakai-hen'', he makes an unexpected cameo appearance, provided the player can find him, as the man who hands over the Auto-Repair Machine Parts to Crowe]].
* PlotRelevantAgeUp: Technically she's 16, and in the ending, her body grows to match her real age. See SheIsAllGrownUp for more.
* ReallySevenHundredYearsOld: A side effect of her coming BackFromTheDead.
* HeIsNotMyBoyfriend: Inverted; a good chunk of the cast tries to convince her Rand is her surrogate paternal figure and not her love interest. She won't have any of that.
* SheIsAllGrownUp: Averted; [[spoiler:the only difference in her appearance is that her hair grows, and between the end of ''Z'' and ''Super Robot Wars Z: Special Disk'', she cuts it. Sure, they try to justify it in-story, but we all know the [[LazyArtist real reason]]]].
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Variously referred to as "Mel Peter/Beater", "Mail Beater/Peter", "Mare Peter/Beater" and even ''[[BlindIdiotTranslation Male Beater]]''.
* TokenMiniMoe: WordOfGod states she's intended to counterbalance Rand since he's older than the average [=SRW=] protagonist.
* YouCantFightFate: Not so much fate, but [[spoiler:the Wounded Lion tried to avoid the Holy War by not choosing a battle-hungry Sphere Reactor and manifesting itself in a repair-based mecha instead of a combat-based machine. The plan would've worked, until Mel was killed in combat and Cielo passed it on to her to save her life]].

!Setsuko Ohara (Voiced by Yukiko Takaguchi)
-->''"The Glory Star! Full Burst!"''

Female protagonist of ''Z'', Setsuko's an orphan thanks to her parents' death via the {{Colony Drop}}s, and was drafted into the [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Titans]] and placed in the "Glory Star" squad under Denzel Hammer and Toby Watson. She has a rather timid, quiet and demure attitude, making her question her purpose as a Titan, and indirectly making herself and the rest of the team the Titan's go-to {{Butt Monkey}}s. While out on a training mission in the new Virgora mecha, Glory Star become embroiled in a skirmish with the [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam AE]][[LaResistance UG]]'s [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Quattro Bajeena and Kamille Bidan]]. In the confusion, Setsuko mysteriously transports herself, Toby and Denzel into [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSeedDestiny another world]].

While finding out what's going on, Setsuko encounters the enigmatic Asakim, and everything starts going downhill, as her first experience with him was his unceremonious [[CleanCut murder]] of [[HalfTheManHeUsedToBe Denzel]]. If that isn't enough, he later kills Toby in front of her, beats her up and possibly [[RapeAsDrama rapes her]] (we aren't sure due to a [[FadeToBlack scene change]]). [[FromBadToWorse If that still isn't enough]], Asakim arranges a meeting between Setsuko and the AlternateUniverse versions of Toby and Denzel, only to see that [[MagnificentBastard Asakim]] has convinced them she's their enemy. It turns out Setsuko possesses the Sphere of the "Sorrowful Maiden", which grows more powerful the sadder she gets, and Asakim seeks to awaken its true potential by tormenting her. It's also the thing responsible for transporting her randomly throughout the dimensions. She resolves to thwart Asakim's ambitions (and later the Chimera Battalion), but discovers the more she uses the Sphere's power, the more she's losing herself: first her sense of taste, then her sight...[[TheWoobie poor girl]].

Setsuko pilots the Virgora, formerly one of three test units, each with specific weaponry and combat roles, but gathers up/unlocks all weapon outloads for one. Later, it's upgraded a second time to the Virgora Glory. She embodies these tropes:
* {{BFG}}: Virgora's primary weapon
* DrillSergeantNasty: Surprisingly enough, she can be one. Hibiki gets the brunt of it after he asks her to train him.
* DownerEnding: [[spoiler:All three of them in ''Z''. She dies in the bad ending and won't last long in the normal and good ending either, with the only difference being she finally joins those alternate universe versions of Denzel and Toby in the latter]].
* BlessedWithSuck: A Sphere gives awesome power with the right emotions. Her emotional trigger? DESPAIR
* BreakTheCutie: Done ''lots'' of times by Asakim. It's pretty much his sole purpose in her version of the story.
* CustomUniform: Played with, since it's not ''technically'' true - the Titans wear a set outfit and it doesn't look particularly impressive from their [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam 1985 origin]], and [[GenreThrowback remain as such in these games]]. Although the Glory Star are part of the Titans, they're drawn in the modern "[[FanNickname Banpresto Original]]"-style, thus making their uniforms look [[GoodLookingPrivates a bit better]].
* EarnYourHappyEnding: At the end of ''Z'', she's united with another universe's Toby and Denzel, and the three recreate the Glory Star.
** [[spoiler:Implied in the ''Third Z'' in regards to her Sphere: because Gadlight Meonsam managed to use his Sphere to the extent where he isn't harmed by its negative effects, there's the potential for Setsuko to do the same]].
* {{Gainaxing}}: Despite her legs supposedly being the focus of her character design, that doesn't stop her from having a large, bouncing chest whenever she uses her "The Glory Star."
* GlassCannon: Powerful attacks, the very useful "High Straight Turret" MAP attack, and a squad leader bonus that gives more attack power to her ranged weapons. Unfortunately, she has some problems dodging attacks.
* HeroicRROD: The more she uses her Sphere, the more she loses herself.
* ItsPersonal: After Asakim does...things to her, she's really pissed off.
* LikeBrotherAndSister: A mild version with her relationship with [[Anime/GundamSeedDestiny Shinn Asuka]]. Both supporting and looking out for each other through out the Z saga. This is outright mentions by Lunamaria of all people in Tengoku-hen as she tease Shinn if he is in love with her since they seem so close, He flat out denied and claim that Setsuko is the one keep supporting him no matter what situation. Shinn is also one of a few non-OG characters to have a strong grudge against Asakim mainly because he hurts Setsuko.
* {{Leitmotif}}: "The Right Stuff" for the Glory Star team; once the Virgora Glory is acquired, "The Wings Which Wipe Away Tears"
* MagikarpPower: Her entire route is this compared to Rand's as her route has a lot of characters who aren't quite up to par compared to Rand's characters. However, most of her characters can get to [[{{Cap}} level 99]] easily [[ViolationOfCommonSense just by using the MAP attacks of the battle ships to attack allies and repair themselves.]] Plus, she has an easier final boss compared to Rand.
* MeaningfulName: See SpellMyNameWithAnS below. She holds the Sphere of the Sorrowful Maiden and is the pilot of the Virgora, both arguably fitting well with the constellation and zodiac of Virgo.
* MidSeasonUpgrade: The Virgora Custom, which gets several attacks over the course of the game [[spoiler:via a perverse version of MegaManning, wherein what it acquires are the signature moves of the mecha of her dead teammates (the Custom itself being Denzel's unit with the left arm from Setsuko's unit)]]. The Virgora Glory plays with this by initially being a simple MechaExpansionPack (that broke the Virgora's primary weapon to boot!) [[spoiler:before it's augmented by her Sphere. Finally, Sidereal in ''Tengoku-hen'' gives the machine its last upgrade into the Virgora Glory S]].
* [[spoiler:RedBaron: Sacrifai refers to her as "Hamaliel the Star". [[GeniusBonus Hamaliel is the angel that represents Virgo]].]]
* SayMyName: In ''Z'', if Asakim hits her with an attack that will almost kill her:
--> '''Setsuko:''' [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iAQsmU7zNjg&t=7m15s ASAKIM DOWIIIIIIIIN!]]
* ShesGotLegs: WordOfGod states one of the reasons for her character design is this trope. Unfortunately, her first mech in Rengoku-hen is the only time you'll ever see this in-game.
* ShrinkingViolet: In the early portion of her story
* SparklingStreamOfTears: [[spoiler:It's actually used to upgrade her mecha and part of the Virgora's attack animation]].
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: "Balgora", but according to the artbook "OG Secret Hangar", it's spelled as "Virgora", lifting this up to MeaningfulName.
* SweetTooth: She loves desserts, [[spoiler:only to be played tragically, since she loses her sense of taste after the Sorrowful Maiden awakens]].
* TraumaCongaLine: Probably the poster girl for [=SRW=]
* UnwittingPawn: The things she does actually further Asakim's goals...
* WaveMotionGun: Virgora Glory's "The Glory Star" and the MAP "High Straight Turret".

!Toby Watson (Voiced by Creator/TakashiKondo)

* AcePilot: Worth mentioning is he was this in a previous squad before he joined the Glory Star.

!Denzel Hammer (Voiced by Hiroaki Ishikawa)

%%* BaldOfAwesome
%%* PapaWolf
* RealMenWearPink: In one of the ''Z'' gag comics, Setsuko gets harassed by Titans members [[Anime/MobileSuitZetaGundam Jerid Messa and Kakricon Kacooler]], culminating in the two of them forcing her to don a PlayboyBunny outfit. When it looks like things are going to go further downhill, Denzel and Toby appear to save the day...by [[http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/14b7dece.jpg wearing their]] [[http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/06b75bcf.jpg own bunny outfits]].

!!'''Asakim Dowin (Voiced by Creator/HikaruMidorikawa)'''
[[caption-width-right:224:[[SarcasmMode Totally]] [[FanNickname Not]]-[[{{Expy}} Masaki]]]]
-->''"My past, my sin, my fate, and finally...MY DESPAIR!!"''

A mysterious man clad in black, Asakim seems to be one of his own agenda. Noted for his sadistic, psychopathic tendencies, he seemingly targets Setsuko to make her suffer and gain something from her dimensional gate opening capabilities. He also uses Rand for his own benefits later, though for some reason in Rand's story, he comes off as amiable towards him.

Asakim reappears in ''Hakai-hen'' as the only recurring ''Z'' original. He assists new protagonist Crowe in the first half of the game from time to time, as all of the characters are from a different setting from ''Z'' and they don't know anything about Asakim. He tries a similar plan he previously attempted with Rand by getting close to Crowe, then stabbing him in the back later. Fortunately, he's stopped preemptively when members of ZEUTH make an appearance in the ZEXIS world, and [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack Amuro Ray]] [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W8qQ1kCfyEk immediately attacks and drives him off, and proceeds to inform Crowe of his atrocities against Rand and Setsuko]]. He reappears in ''Saisei-hen'' [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3Ix4aPAVVQ after realizing the Sphere he obtained from Aim Liard was a fake and destroys Aim by using his own Sphere]] of the "Truth-Seeking Goat'', making him unable to resurrect himself from death, while Uther Insaraum, the King of Restoration, finishes Aim for good.

If there's anything to note, Asakim's almost the antithesis of [[Characters/MasouKishin Masaki Andoh]]: {{Emo}} instead of HotBlooded, evil instead of good...and there's his mecha Shurouga, considered the "Anti-Cybuster": clad in black, has similar moves ([[CoolSword "Discutter" to "Discalibur"]] [[spoiler:([[CoolSword and "Vanity Ripper" to "Integral Discalibur"]])]], [[SphereOfDestruction "Cyflash" to "Embrace the Inferno"]], [[AttackDrone "Hi-Familiar" to "Tragic Genocider"]] [[spoiler:([[TeleportSpam and "Tragic Carnager"]])]], [[DeathOfAThousandCuts "Discutter: Ranbu no Tachi" to "Rumbling Discalibur"]], [[RammingAlwaysWorks "Akashic Buster" to "Ley Buster"]][[spoiler:, and "Cosmo Nova" to "Genosic Nova"]]), but darker and more sadistic. Tropes associated with him and the Shurouga are:
* CannotTellALie: More of a "VillainsNeverLie"; during ''Z'', he always reveals his intentions even to his victims. Turns out in ''Saisei-hen'', [[spoiler:he's the bearer of the Sphere of the Truth-Seeking Goat, which prevents him from lying]].
* {{Emo}}: [[spoiler:Crossed with DeathSeeker - since Asakim cannot die, he's after the Sorrowful Maiden and Wounded Lion [[WhoWantsToLiveForever so he can finally end his life]]]].
* EnemyMine: During the first raid of Wrath Babylon in ''Tengoku-hen'', Amuro insists Z-BLUE support Asakim, given this is their only chance, despite protests from Setsuko and younger members.
* EvilCounterpart: To Masaki, if only on a MetaVerse level. His first name's even a SignificantAnagram of Masaki's (his surname, however, is a phonetic anagram, though [[SpellMyNameWithAnS no one can agree on how to spell it...]])
* EvilLaugh: He does a grand one on occasion during the Shurouga's attacks.
* {{Expy}}: 'Natch; strangely, he doesn't have a [[Characters/MasouKishin Shu Shirakawa]] counterpart. [[spoiler: ''The Moon Dwellers'' hints that he might be the genuine article after all ...since Cybuster uses Negative Energy as fuel now.]]
* FriendlyEnemy: His polite demeanor toward Rand doesn't cease after his true colors are revealed. Likewise, he seems to have quite a bit of respect for Crowe. Flat out averted with Setsuko, who despises him for good reason.
* HeelFaceRevolvingDoor: Zigzagged between outright hostility and assisting the heroes against a common foe in ''Z'' and the ''Second Z''. By the end of ''Tengoku-hen'', enough has revealed about his origins [[spoiler:that he edges out as a {{Face}}]].
* HeroKiller: Kills Denzel and Toby in ''Z'', [[spoiler:Uther in ''Saisei-hen'']]
* HotWings: Seen during the Shurouga's "Ley Buster"
* InstantRunes: Creates them during the Shurouga's Rumbling Discalibur and Ley Buster. Closer examination reveals the Shurouga ''[[BloodMagic cuts its palm open]]'' to provide the "ink".
* KarmaHoudini: [[spoiler:Played with in ''Saisei-hen'' until ''Tengoku-hen'' fully averts this when he's sacrificed to create the Supreme God Z]].
* {{Ley Line}}s: Shurouga's Ley Buster, if only InNameOnly, as the attack itself prefers rune-filled circles.
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Black Stranger"
* MidSeasonUpgrade: [[spoiler:Shurouga Sin in ''Tengoku-hen'']]
* PetTheDog: Abandons Xine, but leaves a message for her to live on her own will so she can be happy; in Rand's story, he can be convinced to help ZEUTH fight the BigBad.
* ThePunishment: He calls himself an "accursed wanderer"; [[spoiler:he's immortal due to some form of punishment]], unwillingly tossed about between universes like a leaf in the wind. While he refers to his situation as a punishment (implying a punish''er''), Asakim may simply be melodramatic about it, especially since [[spoiler:the cast of the ''Z'' series are also "accursed wanderers" according to him, and are now subject to the same rules he is (even immortality)]].
* [[TitleDrop Subtitle Drop]]: [[spoiler:In Genosic Nova]] attack, he has a line including the word Hakai, Saisei, Jigoku, Rengoku andTengoku.
* RoboticReveal: [[spoiler:The real pilot of the Shurouga died long ago; the machine's simply been projecting a pilot into existence]].
* TooSpicyForYogSothoth: [[spoiler:In the FinalBattle with Holy Advent in ''Tengoku-hen'', having been sacrificed to become a part of the Supreme God Z, Asakim is able to [[FightingFromTheInside fight from the inside]] and prevent the Supreme God from regenerating]].
* [[WhenSheSmiles When He Smiles]]: [[spoiler:During the ending of ''Tengoku-hen'', right before he is about to pass into the next universal cycle, he gives his only genuine smile in the entire saga]].
* VillainousRescue: Asakim will occasionally lend a hand to the heroes when they are having a hard time, but then again he is properly up to something.
* WildMassGuessing: Overloaded; even the Ley Buster attack alone invokes too much guessing. It features the likes of Shu's [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWars3 Neo Granzon]] firing the "[[SphereOfDestruction Shukutaihou]]", the version of the Cybuster from the obscure ''Shin Masou Kishin: Panzer Warfare'' dueling the Shurouga, a silhouette of Crowe standing in the streets (you can recognize him if you closely examine the jacket's strap: apparently, Banpresto foreshadowed his appearance) and two women theorized to be a play on Masaki's {{familiar}} cats given human form.
** Taken further in the ending of ''Tengoku-hen'': [[spoiler:if the implication the Z universe precedes the [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Original Generation]] universe, and that Masaki is a {{Reincarnation}} of Asakim cleansed of his evil, the images seen in the Ley Buster attack aren't visions of the past, but that of the future]]. Further reinforced with Asakim's final line of dialogue in the game.
--> "The wind is calling me, that voice I heard once before."[[note]]Sound familiar? [[spoiler:It's the opening lyrics to Masaki's {{Leitmotif}} "Neppuu! Shippuu! Cybuster!"]][[/note]]
* WillfullyWeak: Whenever he's playable, the Ley Buster cannot be used, presumably because mind-raping his enemies in front of ZEUTH would make him even more ObviouslyEvil. Unless you recruit him in Rand's final scenario, you'll finally be able to use it, since Asakim has nothing left to hide at that point.

A special operations unit of the [[TheFederation New Earth Federation]] headed by Colonel, later, Brigadier General Edel Bernal, their mission is to unite the chaotic world after the dimensional collapse, but are also intent on [[TakeOverTheWorld ruling the world as a totalitarian dictatorship]] by controlling all information through the Universal Network (read: the Internet). Using the UN, they feed ZEUTH false information about each other in an attempt to trick them into destroying one another. Naturally, it becomes clear the Chimera are the primary antagonists of ''Z''.

Tropes common to multiple members of the Chimera are:
* {{Leitmotif}}: "The Lion Bears Its Blades" for Löwen, ""Set A Snake Upon Evil's Trail" for Schlan Opel, "The Demonic Goat's Allure" for Xine, "The Puppet's Eye-God" for Edel Bernal and "Chimera" for The Edel Bernal
* ThemeNaming: Each member's name is in German, while the name of their mecha are in Latin and contains the word "chaos".

!!Löwen General (Voiced by Creator/IsshinChiba)
[[caption-width-right:275:[[BewareTheNiceOnes Don't trust that smile too much...]]]]

A very dedicated soldier of the Chimera, Löwen has issues against hitting women and fighting them on the battlefield, less out of misogyny and more out of chivalry. Calling himself "The Young Lion of the Chimera", he pilots the Chaos Leo, a mecha that looks like a man wearing lion hide with vicious melee attacks. As the Chimera reveal their true colours, [[FaceHeelTurn so does Löwen]]: he despises women, and believes the ''only'' woman who should be allowed to exist is his commander Edel Bernal, [[PsychoSupporter whom he worships like a goddess]]. The reason for this is the vague explanation of "[[FreudianExcuse I was betrayed by women before]]". Löwen dies pathetically screaming out Edel Bernal's name as his Chaos Leo is destroyed. Löwen embodies these tropes:
* BaitTheDog: Oooh, a heroic {{Bishonen}}!...Wait, [[HeManWomanHater he's a what now]]?
%%* TheBrute
* MeaningfulName: ''Löwen'' is German for "lion"; naturally, Leo is obviously Latin for "lion".
* TheMole: For CHIMERA when he is with ZEUTH.
* PlayingWithFire: His Chaos Leo's strongest attack involves a lot of it.
* {{Kiai}}: Yells a lot, especially after he reveals he's batshit insane.
* ProudWarriorRaceGuy: Variation; [[spoiler:in his final appearance, he goes all-out in the proud warrior part, complete with [[http://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/lowencrazy.jpg war paint]] on his face]].
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Is it "Löwen" or "Reuben" or "Raven" or "Levin"?
* WouldntHitAGirl: Even his gameplay mechanics reflect this - 20% more damage to males, 20% less damage to girls. After TheReveal, he's MORE than willing to hit a girl, and gains a 20% damage boost when attacking women, making him a HeManWomanHater.

!!Schlan Opel (Voiced by Yoshiaki Matsumoto)

A member of the Chimera and Löwen's closest friend, Schlan is a highly professional, skilled pilot, and a very cunning man specializing in data collection and intel. Unlike Löwen, Schlan never joins ZEUTH officially, so the player never gets to use his machine Chaos Anguis (until ''Z: Special Disk''), a humanoid mecha with a pulse rifle that can transform into a giant cobra. When the Chimera's true intentions are shown, so does Schlan, who admits he's [[FourEyesZeroSoul a cold, sadistic killer]] that [[StoicSpectacles does not panic even when he loses]], [[EvilGenius only remarking he has gathered valuable data]]. He still values his friendship with Löwen though, and they truly do have a lot of affection for each other. Imagine his disappointment when he learns although Löwen might hate most women, he does not have interest in the other sex, either. This is because Schlan has a gay crush on Löwen, and really goes towards the deep end after Löwen dies. He is killed soon afterwards by ZEUTH.

Schlan is primarily responsible for feeding the false intel that almost caused ZEUTH to destroy itself, and he likes to gloat about it a lot. Schlan embodies these tropes:
* {{Bishonen}}: Just look at his character portait
* DepravedHomosexual: Especially if the player kills Löwen first
* MeaningfulName: Schlan is derived from "schlange'', German for "snake"; Anguis is the genus name for slow worms, legless lizards rather than snakes, thus the choice of name either reflects the similarity to the word "[[FauxSymbolism anguish]]" or is a silly mistake on Banpresto's part.
* SmugSnake: Literally and figuratively
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Is it "Schlan" or "Shuran"? Take your pick; also, is it "Opel" or "Oper" or "Opal"?
* TransformingMecha: The Chaos Anguis can separate its body parts and recombine them into a gigantic cobra form.

!!Xine Espio (Voiced by Rie Saitou)
[[caption-width:280: This is as work-safe as we could get for a photo]].

An ex-leader of a [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny Windam squad]] that supposedly gets itself wiped out due to a freak explosion thanks to the "Break The World" event (InNameOnly from ''Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny''; ''Z'' uses it from ''Anime/SuperDimensionCenturyOrguss''), Xine is the SoleSurvivor and is found by the Chimera; without much to do, she aligns with them, is given a mecha and for the first part of ''Z'' acts as [[DarkChick a bitch]] towards ZEUTH. However, it's revealed she's simply [[BrokenBird lonely]] (as the members of her old unit are indeed dead, but are entombed within the [[Anime/EurekaSeven Scab Coral]] that's spreading across the planet) and has nowhere to go. If the player is lucky, they can convince her to desert the Chimera. She falls in love with Asakim and madly blushes ({{Squick}}y or not: you decide) whenever he's around. Asakim later abandons her, but tells her to live free.

She pilots the Chimera-made mecha Chaos Capra (which she nicknames "Eliphas") that resembles...well, what happens when [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAdvance Lamia Loveless' Angelg]] gets a HornyDevils redesign. She embodies these tropes:
* {{BFS}}: Big Fragging [[BladeOnAStick SPEAR]]
* EarlyBirdCameo: Xine first appears as a female {{mook}} with a generic {{mook}} portrait that attacks [[Anime/SuperDimensionCenturyOrguss Kei Katsuragi]]. The only way to tell it's her is through her voice.
* EvilRedHeads [[EvilIsSexy Are Sexy]]: She drops it eventually, but she starts out EVIL, so...
* HighHeelFaceTurn: Being the only member of Chimera who survives, and the only woman outside of Edel in the squad to do so
* ICallItVera: "Eliphas" appears to be the InSeriesNickname Xine gave to her Chaos Capra, in much the same way [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Ratsel Feinschmecker]] calls every mecha he uses "Trombe".
* MeaningfulName: The Chaos Capra fits with the Latin ThemeNaming of the Chimera, with Capra being the genus name for wild goats, such as Ibex. Xine ''may be'' derived from ''ziege'', the German word for "goat" (but given a more feminine-sounding phoneme at the end), though there's no confirmation for the latter.
* MsFanservice: Xine's SuperMovePortraitAttack may serve as evidence she's beaten both Lamia AND [[Characters/EndlessFrontier Kaguya Nanbu]] in that size department.
* ShoutOut: The Eliphas might be a small shout to Eliphas Levi, a French author of the occult and self-proclaimed magician.
* SchrodingersCat: Her [[WhatHappenedToTheMouse not appearing in]] the ''Second Z'' has left her in this predicament.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Is it "Xine" or "Tsine"?
* {{Stripperiffic}}: She wears friggin' ''lingerie'' as her default getup.
* WhatHappenedToTheMouse: Of all the major originals who survived ''Z'', she's the only one to not make the cut into the ''Second Z''; [[spoiler:even Mel's father shows up for a cameo]]. On the other hand, Marguerite Pistail serves as a loose {{Expy}} of her in ''Hakai-hen'' and ''Saisei-hen''.
** Unfortunately, thanks to some FridgeBrilliance[=/=]FridgeHorror in ''Saisei-hen'', we find out Asakim has [[spoiler:the Sphere of the Truth-Seeking Goat stolen from a "curious girl", the implication that Xine was originally a Sphere Reactor and he may have killed her to acquire it]].
** [[spoiler:The end of ''Jigoku-hen'', however, hinted she may be BackForTheFinale. TheBusCameBack after all, with Xine reappearing in ''Tengoku-hen''. Moreover, she isn't a Sphere Reactor; however, she was [[UnwittingPawn unknowingly set up by The Edel Bernal to steal the Truth-Seeking Goat]], but Asakim got to it first]].

!!Edel Bernal (Voiced by Creator/MichieTomizawa)

A beautiful woman with a demeanor that would make the Virgin Mary seem smutty, Edel Bernal's the young leader of Chimera, with the rank of Colonel at first, later promoted to Brigadier General. She had a lover who died a while ago during some unspecified war, likes wild and macho men, drinks a rose/chamomile blend tea, and wears a negligee at night (information courtesy of ThatOtherWiki). Her personality and position made her a natural maternal figure for the chaotic world after the dimensional collapse, and Edel's determined to bring about an era of peace and stability following the bloodshed of the wars...

...At least, she would like for you to think that: Edel's actually an ultra-bitch who considers herself God's gift to humanity and superior to everybody else. She would have loved nothing more than to take her "rightful" place as absolute ruler of the world. Obviously, ZEUTH wouldn't have any of this, and proceeds to overthrow her, even while the entire world's fed propaganda painting them as terrorists. Edel's eventually pushed back and attempts to kill [[Anime/EurekaSeven Eureka]] in order to take ZEUTH down with her. Imagine to everyone's surprise when "The Black Charisma" appears in a Lemures and unceremoniously kills her.

Edel Bernal pilots the Lemures, the pinnacle of Chimera technology (at least, what she assumed was the peak). She embodies these tropes:
* TheBrigadier: Figuratively, literally, and subverted at the same time!
* ColonelBadass: Again, figuratively and literally; she's a pretty decent pilot, and it takes some balls to take over the world.
* EvilCounterpart: To [[Anime/TurnAGundam Dianna Solel]] and [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny Lacus Clyne]]
* TheHeavy: The Edel Bernal is the BigBad, but most of the bad things that happen in-story are on her part.
* MacrossMissileMassacre: Part one of the Lemures' "Promised Millennium"
* MeaningfulName: ''Edel'' is German for "noble, gentle, regal"; Lemures is Latin for "malicious/restless spirit"
* MoodWhiplash: Twice - once after TheReveal and the other [[spoiler:as she's forced to happily do things like twirl three times and bark and dance ''in the middle of the final battle'' by The Edel Bernal]].
* ThisIsADrill: Part two of the Lemures' Promised Millennium
* TomatoInTheMirror: [[spoiler:All of her desires, memories and personality traits were pre-programmed in by The Edel Bernal. She's also forced to follow any command given by The Edel after he says "I LOVE YOU!"]]
* VillainousBreakdown: It's pretty satisfying to see her slowly but surely lose her smug air as you whittle down the {{Hit Point}}s of the her Lemures until she's screaming and desperately pleading for an explanation as to why she's losing.
* WaveMotionGun: Part three of the Lemures' Promised Millennium

!!The Edel Bernal (Voiced by Creator/DaisukeHirakawa)
[[caption-width:280:This is the best, non-spoiler image of this nutcase that we can come by; we apologize.]]

The Edel Bernal is an amalgamation of three different identities taken on by the same being: "Jie Babel", a hideous looking MadScientist working for the Chimera who [[TooKinkyToTorture gets off from being beaten]] by Edel Bernal, "The Black Charisma", a mysterious masked man who [[HiddenAgendaVillain goes from place to place to manipulate events to an indefinite goal]] and "The Edel Bernal", a blue-haired {{Bishonen}}. The Edel Bernal caused the dimensional collapse and various wars resulting from that for one and only one purpose: [[ForTheEvulz he thought it]] [[PsychopathicManchild would be really fun]]. To that end, he's defeated and [[KarmaHoudini dies happy with no regrets, laughing all the way after having the time of his life]].

...at least until he reappears again after ZEUTH believes he's defeated for good, and the confrontation between him and the protagonist at this point incites a reaction between their mecha's respective power sources that ultimately destroys his soul.

Being a Reactor of an artificially-created Sphere, derived from analysis of a real one in the chosen protagonist's mecha, The Edel Bernal has [[RealityWarper the ability to play with]] the "Origin Law", thus incorporate versions of himself from alternate realities, as well as summon them. He pilots the Chaos Lemures, the pinnacle of the Chaos machines the Chimera use and, depending on who the main character is, will either be fought as one enemy with large HP and an endless supply of {{mook}}s or three enemies with slightly less HP that ''must be defeated in the same turn''. The Edel Bernal embodies these tropes:
* AscendedFanboy: Many of his pre-battle comments are deliberate {{Shout Out}}s to his opponents' nicknames and {{catchphrase}}s.
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:Sort of; returns in the ''Second Z'' as Elgan Laudic and the ''Third Z'' as incarnations Ambriel and AG]].
* BigBad: Of ''Z''. [[spoiler:At least at that time. Arguably he's the BigGood all the time.]]
* ContrastingSequelMainCharacter: To [[spoiler:[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Euzeth Gozzo]]]]; both characters went mad at learning the AwfulTruth, yet they spiral into polar opposites. Whereas [[spoiler:Euzeth carefully manipulates all the important events in ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha'']] either directly or using his pawns as proxies for a greater scheme, The Edel simply wants to watch and experience an interdimensional trainwreck as entertainment.
* [[spoiler:CrazyPrepared]]: [[spoiler:He's actually preparing to fight the Angels all the time. The Chimera team, his Chaos Lemures, Genion......the list goes on.]]
* EvilCounterpart: [[spoiler:Of Elgan]]
* FauxAffablyEvil: A lot of [=SRW=] adepts actually love this villain, even if he makes men like [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Ali Al-Saachez]] seem stable by comparison.
* ForTheEvulz: Lives, breathes, talks and walks it
* GoMadFromTheRevelation: [[spoiler:''Saisei-hen'' reveals the reason for The Edel's insanity was because he learned of the Black Knowledge, the knowledge of the calamity that will destroy the entire universe]].
** "THANK YOU VERY MUCH!" "Yes, Baby!" "[[TooKinkyToTorture Please, hit me more, PLEASE!]]". We could go on for ages, seriously.
* KarmaHoudini: Causes suffering and misery on a global scale due to the wars his machinations result in. What does he get in return? The opportunity to die while having the time of his life with no regrets, whatsoever. What a bastard...
** Averted in the normal and good endings, when he tries to pull the "greatest climax" by [[spoiler:killing Kei and [[Anime/SuperDimensionCenturyOrguss Olson D. Verne]], until the chosen protagonist intercepts him, and their Sphere's response within proximity of The Edel's duplicate is to absorb it, along with The Edel's soul. The Edel Bernal screams as his soul is extinguished, knowing his ideal world of chaos will soon end]]. Take that!
* LargeHam: When compared to other [=SRW=] original villains, The Edel most certainly is.
* ManBehindTheMan: See TomatoInTheMirror in Edel Bernal's entry
* MadArtist: Refers to himself as the "Artist of Genesis"
* MesACrowd: [[spoiler:There are an infinite number of The Edel entities among all dimensions. The thing they have in common is each have touched the Black Knowledge and are affected by it in different ways. The Edel of the UCW snapped and decided to make a world of chaos since everything was going down the proverbial drain, while his ACW counterpart created ZEXIS to form a force capable of averting the BadFuture. Ambriel in ''Tengoku-hen'' conspired to steal the Sphere of the "Quarreling Twins" for herself]].
* SpellMyNameWithAnS, but closely tied to SpellMyNameWithAThe: It's '''The''' Edel Bernal, dammit, not "Ji Adel Banel"! He even explains he's the ''real'' Edel Bernal, and therefore ''THE'' Edel Bernal, during the final scenario!
* ToCreateAPlaygroundForEvil: The Edel Bernal doesn't really have a plan other than to turn the UCW into the most chaotic, war-riddled place he can to be his personal playground. The ''Second Z'' sheds a little light on this - [[spoiler:he went insane after he foresaw the coming of [[EldritchAbomination Ba'al]], and decided there was no way to possibly win, opted to turn the UCW into total chaos for his amusement and last until the day Ba'al shows up to evitably destroy everything]].
* TooKinkyToTorture: He REALLY enjoys being hit, and finds the final battle to be the pinnacle of his existence. To drive the point home, after having his machine trashed, he quite literally says "Please, more pain, more pleasure..."

[[folder: Debuting in the Second Super Robot Wars Z]]

! Crowe Broust (Voiced by Creator/YujiUeda)
-->''"The Risk of My Life!"''

A former member of the black-ops "Firebug Squad" from the [[Anime/CodeGeass Britannian]] [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Union]], Crowe is the headlining protagonist of the ''Second Super Robot Wars Z''. Saddled with a million dollars in debt, he agreed to be the test pilot for the anti-Dimensional Beast mecha Brasta as a way to work the sum off.

The main goal of Firebug was to start minor rebellions in various nations for Britannia that would be crushed by its primary military. However, during one mission in Esther Elhaas's hometown, a Dimension Energy Crystal experiment went haywire, causing its destruction. Firebug was sent in to "clean up the mess" and kill any survivors of a town half-destroyed, but Crowe [[DefectorFromDecadence took pity and rescued Esther, deserting Firebug]]. It isn't until he encounters his former commander Marilyn Catto in ''Saisei-hen'' that Crowe finally opens up and confirms the story to Esther.
* {{Attack Drone}}s: Brasta's "SPIGOT". Depending on the final attack, the drones can either be of a melee or ranged-based type.
* BayonetYa: Brasta and Li-Brasta B's "Bayonet Spiker"
* BlackBox: Brasta's "VX System"; [[spoiler:turns out it houses the Sphere of the "Swaying Scales"]].
* BornLucky[=/=]BornUnlucky: He's pretty unlucky, ranging from his million-dollar debut to his tendency of getting shot down during events. On the other hand, he comes with the "Fortune" pilot skill [[note]]Earn 20% more credits[[/note]] and he finds a rather convenient way to pay off his debt, purely by chance, [[FauxSymbolism just like how a scale can tip one way before tipping to the other]].
* ButtMonkey: His ever-escalating debt is played for laughs, leaving him at the mercy of Traiya and AG's trolling.
* ChestBlaster: Seen in the last parts of the SPIGOT with the {{Attack Drone}}s ranged-type for the Brasta. The Li-Brasta R's "VX Blazer" does the same.
* ChickMagnet: Despite being a self-professed women-hater, he has a ridiculous amount of women who are interested in him. Esther, Marguerite and Cravia all have obvious crushes on him, Traia appears to be invested in keeping him around, if only for trolling value, Marilyn has a [[TermsOfEndangerment pet nickname]] for him, and Suzune even swoons briefly at how 'cool' he is when he first appears in ''Tengoku-hen''. Even previous protagonist Setsuko falls for him.
* CursedWithAwesome: Compared to Setsuko, [[spoiler:the Swaying Scales isn't that bad. Its trigger is drive or the will to do something; in Crowe's case, the will to repay his enormous debt. This is seen as a positive trait, which means not only does it not make him miserable, but Asakim doesn't need to do awful things to him to force an awakening, like say...murder Esther. The Sphere's side-effect, being able to only focus on one thought or action, is easily countered by making him hear the sound of a coin dropping, as his desire for money to pay off his debt is so strong it can override the Sphere. As a result, Crowe gets the awesome power of a Sphere, with only minimal trouble from it]].
** BlessedWithSuck: [[spoiler:Turns out to be this at same time - Crowe instinctively knows if it's just recorded sound or some other metallic object. Therefore, the "Coin Drop System" in the Li-Brasta drops ''actual coins'', and those coins are added to his debt]].
* DeadpanSnarker: Has a very active and dry sense of humor. He fits in well with the more easygoing members of ZEXIS.
* Determinator: Nearly every enemy comments on his "strong will." It's no coincidence that his second theme is titled "The Unbreakable."
* DisasterDominoes: The reason behind his latest debt in ''Saisei-hen'' - a highway accident that would've resulted in just a few hundred thousand kind of snowballed into another million dollar debt.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Crowe appears much earlier in ''Z'' during the Shurouga's Ley Buster animation as the silhouette standing in the streets. That's right, folks - he was foreshadowed before ''Hakai-hen'' was announced.
* EverythingIsBetterWithSpinning: If the SPIGOT (melee version) doesn't end with a Dynamic Kill, the Brasta comes out spinning from the explosion.
* {{Expy}}/CaptainErsatz: Brasta reminded some players of the Lion series from ''VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration'' when it was showcased. Alternatively, the mechanical design somewhat resembles a [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny Windam]] with the Noir Striker Pack (which normally mounts onto the Strike E to become the Strike Noir).
** In ''Saisei-hen'', the Li-Brasta R is one for [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Dairaiou]]. It even comes with a [[KamenRider Rider Kick]]!
** As for Crowe himself, he's been called "the eldest [[Anime/AfterWarGundamX Frost brother]]".
** Compare the Brasta's SPIGOT to the options/multiples of the VideoGame/{{Gradius}}.
* EyesOfGold: When his Sphere goes berserk
* FriendlySniper: Can be seen as this, especially if you choose to have the Brasta (then upgrade into the Li-Brasta B) as a ranged-oriented machine. He also hangs out a lot with [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Lockon Stratos]].
** [[spoiler:The fact the Li-Brasta T in ''Tengoku-hen'' is a predominantly ranged-unit suggests this is Crowe's preferred style]].
* GratuitousEnglish: When pulling off his attacks, though not really gratuitous from a national standpoint; he's a Britannian, and a native of Chicago.
* HeManWomanHater: Crowe mentions during battles against women sometimes about how scary they are. After being busted by the Dimensional Beast "Moby Dick", he wakes up with Traiya Scott and Esther by his side leading him to say "I really did die...I'm in hell. I can see a Witch and a Little Demon...".
** The root cause of this? Despite her outwardly cheerful and silly appearance, Marilyn was a complete psychopath. This caused Crowe to believe all women are two-faced and their outward appearance can't be trusted until proven otherwise. The only women he doesn't think are this is Traiya, who's [[BrutalHonesty brutally honest]], Esther, [[{{Tsundere}} who wears her emotions on her sleeve]] such that Crowe can read her easily, and Marguerite, whose knightly nature rules out deceit as well as a mutual respect of each others' abilities.
** In the later part of ''Saisei-hen'', [[spoiler:Setsuko asks him if all the good women of ZEXIS haven't caused him to change his mind. Depending on player response, he can say that yes, perhaps his view on women is wrong]]. However, in spite of his stated dislike of women, he does get along remarkably well with the various ZEXIS ladies.
* HonorBeforeReason: His million dollar debt is entirely due to the expenses his father rang up before dying. It's stated the debt would be no issue at all if he were to renounce his inheritance, but he refuses the idea because he sees it as his way to repay his father for raising him.
* HotBlooded: Usually his personality is a little more smooth, but he's not above shouting with the best of them during his biggest attacks.
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Close Game Life"; upon receiving the Li-Brasta, "The Unbreakable"
* MacrossMissileMassacre: Li-Brasta B's "ERM Launcher" during the "VX Clutch Sniper" attack
* MidSeasonUpgrade: Played with when the Brasta is upgraded with the SPIGOT in ''Hakai-hen'' without any comestic changes. Played straight in ''Saisei-hen'' with the Li-Brasta; however, it can have two forms depending on the player's decision - Li-Brasta R(ed) is a LightningBruiser SuperRobot while Li-Brasta B(lue) is a more ranged-based RealRobot with FrickinLaserBeams. [[spoiler:By ''Tengoku-hen'', both upgrades are combined into the Li-Brasta T(rial)]]. Crowe lampshades the latter during the "Unbreakable Fulcrum" attack, stating [[spoiler:the T has "inherited the soul of the R and B"]].
* MoreDakka: Brasta's "Assault Combat Pattern (ACP) Faiz"; ammo conservation is not one of Crowe's strengths.
* OverlyLongFightingAnimation: A lot of attacks in ''Hakai-hen'' count, but Brasta stands out with ''every'' one of its animations being unnecessarily long and drawn out, with Clutch Sniper being the most guilty. Crowe misses the first two shots and only hits with the third and final round. Rectified in ''Saisei-hen'', where a lot of the Brasta's animations are significantly shortened or sped up.
* PokeThePoodle: Either to mess with Esther or simply because he really did forget, everything he described about ZEXIS is completely false. For example, [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing Deathscythe and Sandrock being Shenlong and Heavyarms]].
* RedBaron: Just before the team sees Geraud retreat from battle, he calls Crowe "The Unbreakable".
** [[spoiler: Sacrifai calls him "Uriel the Unbreakable". [[GeniusBonus Uriel is the angel that represents Libra]].]]
* RetiredBadass: Starts ''Hakai-hen'' as this
* RocketPunch: Li-Brasta R's "Mag Knuckle"
* ShoulderCannon: Li-Brasta R
* ShoutOut: Li-Brasta R's [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=62fusuNUkcg Unbreakable Fulcrum]] to [[Manga/GetterRobo Shin Shine Spark]]
* ShootTheShaggyDog: Played for laughs in the end of ''Saisei-hen''. [[spoiler:When all is said and done, in spite of saving the world numerous times, Crowe ends up no closer to paying off his debt than he was at the start of ''Hakai-hen'']].
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Like Setsuko and Rand before him, his mecha's name refers to the constellation and zodiac sign of Libra. Prior to the release of ''Hakai-hen'', many fans romanized it as "Blaster".
* SwissArmyGun: Brasta's AX-55 EAGLE ('''E'''lectromagnetic '''A'''ccelerator '''G'''un '''L'''aunch'''e'''r), which can switch between normal, grenade and sniper rounds, as well as mount a beam spiker and shoot spider nets. Li-Brasta B's AX-99 RAPTOR loses the grenade and net features for a quartet of miniaturized SPIGOT that lets it perform enhanced versions of the Brasta's finishers as its standard attacks, as well as bend, teleport, and multiply its beams, or charge up for a WaveMotionGun.
* TakeAThirdOption: In ''Hakai-hen'', the player had a choice to base the Brasta as a melee or ranged machine. Rather than carry player choice over into ''Saisei-hen'', Brasta comes equipped with both versions of the SPIGOT in its arsenal. Likewise, ACP Faiz features both its melee/ranged final animations in the Dynamic Kill.
** [[spoiler:In ''Tengoku-hen'', the Li-Brasta T does the same for the B and R variants that were available in ''Saisei-hen'']].
* TakeUpMySword: A mild example. If you choose to upgrade into the Li-Brasta B, he'll occasionally use Lockon's ([[spoiler:Neil Dylandy's]]) {{CatchPhrase}}, "Targeted and Firing".
* ThrowingYourShieldAlwaysWorks: Brasta's "Bunker Breaker" is a wire-guided shield with built-in thrusters.
* UnwantedHarem: Despite the [[HeManWomanHater distrust he has of ladies]], he's surrounded by 3 women - Traiya, Esther [[spoiler:and Marguerite, after her HeelFaceTurn]], but that happens so late it doesn't show off.
** Continues into ''Saisei-hen'': Traiya just pretends to be a part of it to mess with him, though it turns out she doesn't want to feel left out, since the other two have certainly fallen for Crowe. [[spoiler:Setsuko gets added into the mix later, and makes an attempt to get Crowe to change his views on women, which can succeed depending on player choice of dialogue]].
*** Since the ZEXIS Route of ''Saisei-hen'' is non-canon, Crowe in ''Rengoku-hen'' causes Cravia Argo to fall for him by using the same "What about it?" line he charmed Esther with.
* WorkOffTheDebt: The reason Crowe agreed to be the Brasta's test pilot; being one million in the hole is gonna take a little while to pay off.
** After he returned that million later in the game, upgrading his Brasta (right after he cleared his previous debt) cost him ''two'' million. [[spoiler:He's still in debt by the end of ''Saisei-hen'']].
* YankTheDogsChain: Every time he finally manages to pay off his current debt, expect him to be saddled with another equally ludicrous amount of debt almost immediately. Always.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: He's only around 20 despite looking and acting in his mid-twenties. However, his time in Firebug might have had a role in this.

! Traiya Scott (Voiced by Creator/AyaHisakawa)

Head of the Axion Foundation's Scott Labs, Traiya is the chief mechanical designer for the Brasta, and after Crowe agrees to work as a test pilot, his immediate superior. Throughout the course of ''Hakai-hen'', she sends Crowe out on various missions across the globe, with his payments being deducted from his debt as he succeeds (or with expenses incurred if he fails).
* AscendedExtra: From a major character with no voiced lines whatsoever into a battleship captain in ''Tengoku-hen''.
* AttackPatternAlpha: "Formation Solar", comprised of the ''Solarian'' firing artillery shots, backed by [[spoiler:Xine, Marguerite, Toby and Denzel]] in their respective machines.
* {{Bifauxnen}}: Yes, folks, Traiya '''IS A WOMAN''', making this a case of ViewerGenderConfusion.
* CoolMask: Has a kitsune mask for [[BunnyEarsLawyer no readily apparent reason]]; she claims its her "persona".
* CoolShip: The ''Solarian'' in ''Tengoku-hen'', which is powered by Z-Crystals.
* FrickinLaserBeams: "DEC Impulse Cannon" for the ''Solarian''
* MacrossMissileMassacre: "MDQ Missiles" for the ''Solarian''
* SphereOfDestruction: "Super Dimension Transfer Buster" for the ''Solarian''
* TheVoiceless: Despite being a major character, Traiya originally did not have a voice actress; finally rectified in ''Tengoku-hen''.

! Esther Elhaas (Voiced by Chihiro Tagaino)
A young woman who initially accosts Crowe, Esther demands he eliminate the Dimensional Beasts (in particular, a white one dubbed "Moby Dick"). She reveals her family was killed several years back by Moby. ZEXIS manages to destroy the beast, allowing her to move on with her life, thus she chooses to become a test pilot in the Scott Labs at the end of ''Hakai-hen''.

In ''Saisei-hen'', Esther is working as a Dimensional Monster Buster for Traiya, piloting the Brasta Es, an improved model of the Brasta. She helps reintroduce the ZEXIS cast to the player as she travels around much like Crowe did and helps them. During one mission, she and Crowe encounter his former Firebug Squad and commander Marilyn. In a twist, Marylin reveals that what destroyed her hometown was a Dimension Energy Crystal experiment gone haywire. Firebug was sent in to "clean up"; however, Crowe had a change of heart and rescued Esther, deserting Firebug. Regardless, Esther doesn't hold it against him. Unfortunately, things quickly turn to tragedy when she's transformed into a Dimensional Beast, after taking a blast for Crowe that infects her with a similar virus Gaiou, the King of Destruction, uses. To avoid a {{mercy kill}}ing by ZEXIS, [[CodeGeass Zero]] places a Geass command to order her to cease attacking; she is then taken by the Arksabers from the Holy Kingdom of Insaraum.

From time to time, Dimensional Beast Esther encounters ZEXIS and they repeatedly drive her off without killing her. Thanks to some assistance from Uther and Esther's own will, she regains her human form. Though horrified by the experience and concerned she may no longer be human, but simply a Dimensional Beast in human form, Crowe reminds her that "no matter what, she IS Esther". For the remainder of ''Saisei-hen'', Esther serves as a dual-protagonist to Crowe.
* ActionGirl: Though more of one still in-training. Esther's tough, but she still has a long way to go, and while she desperately wants to be one, to the point of trying to take pointers from the other ZEXIS women, notably [[CodeGeass Kallen Kozuki]], Esther is told by Kallen to do her own thing and believe in herself.
* ACupAngst: She got pissed off after they would not let her wear a [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N9hSliVD4BU bunny suit]] along with Kallen because of it, but usually doesn't care that much.
* AlliterativeName
* AndThenJohnWasAZombie: Averted as the story continues
* BadassNormal: Esther's not a Sphere Reactor; in fact, the Brasta Es' as normal as you can get for a real robot.
** EmpoweredBadassNormal: [[spoiler:After being restored into human form, she gains a significant stat boost, suggesting her abilities are still being augmented by the DM Virus. This comes to a head in ''Tengoku-hen'' where the virus is the perfect component to power the ''Solarian'' battleship, effectively turning her into its power supply]].
* BodyHorror: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RFiiuEPnG1Y Gets turned into a Dimensional Beast]]. Unlike others before her, she manages to regain human form.
* CombatMedic: Brasta Es has a repair function and Esther comes with a pilot skill that doubles its effectiveness, even though her machine's primarily a combat unit.
* DecoyProtagonist: She's effectively the main character for the first 15 scenarios. Once Crowe returns, she gets turned into a Dimensional Beast, giving him back the spotlight.
** {{Deuteragonist}}: After she's restored to human form, they share the role of the main character for the rest of the game.
* DemotedToExtra: In ''Tengoku-hen''; justified [[spoiler:as she serves as the power generator for the ''Solarian'']].
* FightingFromTheInside: Esther's able to regain control of herself long enough to stop attacking for a few seconds. It's not much, but it's enough for her to show Crowe she's still in there, right around the time he was starting to believe she was gone for good.
* {{Foreshadowing}}: ''Hakai-hen'' openly sets up Esther to play a much larger role in ''Saisei-hen''.
* GratuitousEnglish: Just like Crowe, and for the same reason - she's Britannian by birth, although no longer much of a patriot after they failed to protect her home.
* IconicItem: She ''really'' likes that triangle
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Hard Work And Love"
* MeaningfulEcho: The first time Crowe and Esther really start to become close in ''Hakai-hen'', Esther mutters her doubts and despair that Moby Dick and the Neo Empire Imperium can ever be defeated. Crowe tells her whenever a situation looks impossible, and giving up seems to be the only sane option, the best response to that is to say "So what?" and follow the course. As soon as she's restored to human form in ''Saisei-hen'', Crowe suggests because the situation is growing too dangerous, she should back out of the war. Guess what her response is?
* MythologyGag: Compare her conversation about a human-Dimensional Beast to [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Excellen Browning]] making a quip about whether or not she's still human, even when she's part-[[Characters/SuperRobotWarsCompact2 Einst]].
* PoweredByAForsakenChild: [[spoiler:She's the power supply of the ''Solarian'']].
* RoaringRampageOfRevenge: Unfortunately, she lacked the skills to carry this out in ''Hakai-hen'', so she demands Crowe do this in her stead.
* MoreDakka: Brasta Es' "ACP Iota"
* ShipTease: With Crowe, after Moby Dick is killed
* SwissArmyGun: Brasta Es' AX-66 FALCON
* {{Tsundere}}: This is something Crowe actually likes, as her mood swings and blunt nature mean he can read her like a book, making her one of the few women he trusts not to be deceitful.
** ClingyJealousGirl: Whenever Marguerite's involved, Esther turns double-clingy. The [[CodeGeass heart hat event]] is a particular example.

! The Neo Empire Imperium

!! Gaiou, the King of Destruction (Voiced by Creator/RikiyaKoyama)

A godlike being from another dimension, Gaiou lives only for battle. He would also like to recover his lost memories.
* BigBad: Of ''Hakai-hen''. However, he's still present in ''Saisei-hen'' [[spoiler:and turns out to be the BiggerBad]], though it can be said he just wanted a good fight more than anything else.
* BigDamnVillains: Gets this down to a science in ''Saisei-hen''. [[spoiler:A ZONE running amuck? Gaiou shows up and destroys it with a punch]].
* BloodKnight
* CaptainErsatz: Has the looks and personality similar to [[StreetFighter Akuma]], except Gaiou's more cruel. ''FistOfTheNorthStar'' fans might recognize aspects of Jugai from "The Legend of Kenshiro" movie. Incidentally, Gaiou and Jugai share the same voice actor.
** Back in Japan, people are calling him [[Manga/BakiTheGrappler Yuujirou]].
* FallenHero: [[spoiler:One of the four Dimensional Generals armed with Revive Cells and Dimensional Beasts, Gaiou was once their home dimension's last hope against whatever the Black Knowledge predicted. They lost, with Gaiou being the SoleSurvivor, and he eventually came to live only for combat]].
* FigureItOutYourself: [[spoiler:Before he dies in ''Saisei-hen'', Gaiou refuses to tell ZEXIS any helpful details about his old foes from the Black Knowledge aside from confirming they will soon return. He states ZEXIS is strong enough to have the potential to destroy them and dies, taking the specific knowledge of who and what they are to his grave. ZEXIS is rather annoyed at this]].
* FinalBoss: Of ''Hakai-hen'' [[spoiler:and ''Saisei-hen'']]
* FinalBossPreview: Appears barely halfway through ''Hakai-Hen'' at level 60, with full armor, high accuracy and an enormous HP pool.
* GivenNameReveal: If taking the route split with Crowe post-scenario 43 in ''Tengoku-hen'', Gaiou's real name is [[spoiler:Vaishurava]].
* HonorBeforeReason: Despite how horrible he is as the story goes, he did spare the leaders of the United Nations so that they can call their forces (namely ZEXIS and ZEUTH) to give him a good fight, even though he could've destroyed them all from the outset.
** He even refuses to allow others to restore his memories, believing it should be ''his'' choice.
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Broken World's King" [[spoiler:and "The Eternal God of Battle" during the final battle in ''Saisei-hen'']]
* MakeWayForTheNewVillains: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UHkSmu91PRc Curb-stomped]] by Uther in ''Saisei-hen''. [[spoiler:Averted in the last scenarios in both routes]].
* NoIndoorVoice: His voice is so powerful it has its own echo.
* OneWingedAngel: [[spoiler:[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iB2dY_JLf_s Dimensional General Gaiou]]]]
* PhysicalGod: AND HOW; his first appearance involves him briefly beating the crap out of ZEXIS '''on foot'''.
* PowerupLetdown: [[spoiler:Dimensional General form]]; yes, Gaiou becomes incredibly strong with consistent perfect accuracy, so long as he maintains Will above 130. Unfortunately, he's vulnerable to songs sung by [[{{Anime/Macross 7}} Basara Nekki]], allowing players to strip Gaiou of Will in short order.
* QuestForIdentity: In ''Hakai-hen'', he journeys to find his lost memories; [[spoiler:he regains them at the end of the game]].
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Hot dogs, so much that [[spoiler:when he's finally defeated by ZEXIS and ZEUTH, Gaiou's last wish was to eat another one]].
* TheUnfettered: He doesn't remember much about his past, so he just goes around the world, doing what he feels like and leaving the scheming up to Aim, Shiony Regis and Carlos Axion Jr. When you're as powerful as he is, who's going to stop you?
* VillainsOutShopping: There are a few scenes in ''Saisei-hen'' of him simply hanging out with Carlos. He also likes fast food, particularly hot dogs.
* TheVirus: [[spoiler:Gaiou can grow and manipulate Dimension Energy Crystals through the Gertilan's Revive Cells, allowing him to infect his opponents with crystalline growths that forcibly transform them into Dimensional Beasts. Judging by the number of them you fight, he's fought a hell of a lot of people]].
* WellIntentionedExtremist: [[spoiler:His ultimate goal's to become strong enough to fight against the calamity that will destroy the multiverse as dictated in the Black Knowledge]].
* ZeroApprovalGambit: [[spoiler:It's hinted in the final battle of ''Saisei-hen'' he was acting like a complete jerk beforehand so ZEXIS would be motivated to fight him. The purpose of that was to see if they could defeat the disaster that defeated him]].

!! Shiony Regis (Voiced by Creator/SanaeKobayashi)
The ruler of the nation of Rimonasia, Shiony hatched a plan to use the Dimension Energy Crystals abundant in her country to make it a leading world power.
* TheCameo: [[spoiler:In ''Saisei-hen'' scenario 15, she appears in a brief event where she gives Esther some [[Anime/MacrossFrontier Nyan Nyan buns]] and runs off before her identity is revealed. Turns out while she did survive the events of ''Hakai-hen'', she's become a bum. She reappears in scenario 46 alongside a bunch of unnamed [=NPCs=]]].
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Phantom Utopia"
* LesCollaborateurs: With Carlos, in cahoots with Aim. In all fairness, once Gaiou shows up she realizes she's way out of her league, but that doesn't stop her from trying to curry favor until the very end.
%%* TheQuisling
%%* UtopiaJustifiesTheMeans

!! Carlos Axion Jr.
The young head of the Axion Foundation and one of the richest men in the world, Carlos winds up backing the Imperium set up by Shiony, although there are hints he has his own agenda. When he's captured by ZEXIS and interrogated for Gaiou's location after revealing he's been working against them, he doesn't say a word. Unfortunately for Carlos, he doesn't realize he was earlier marked with a Geass command by Zero to always answer his questions.
* TheAtoner: In ''Saisei-hen'', he's given his entire fortune to the reconstruction effort as penance for his deeds and now works as a manager for the Scott Lab's DM Busters.
* CatchPhrase: "C'mon, c'mon!"
* LesCollaborateurs: Working with Shiony for Aim, [[ItAmusedMe for no good reason]].
%%* HeroicSacrifice
* RebelPrince: Traia stands with [[spoiler:King]] under the moonlight. For the longest time, she tried to think of why [[spoiler:his son]] wanted to change the world. It was because he wanted to destroy Chrono's grip on the world. [[spoiler:King]] sighs. He told Carlos about the nature of Chrono and [[spoiler:the fate of the Axion men to bear the title of King]], just after Carlos graduated from university. And until the day that they he would take the title for himself, [[spoiler:King]] told [[spoiler:his son]] to do whatever he pleased. And he ended up making the world's largest corporation. In order to fight Chrono, and [[spoiler:his old man]]. And it was because Carlos was like that, that Elgan Laudic gave him the Swaying Scales to pass on.
%%* RichBitch
* RichesToRags: By the start of ''Saisei-hen'', he hasn't got two credits to rub together, jokingly calling himself "Zero". Subverted later, as he eventually makes a ton of money again by playing the stock market. [[spoiler:Double subverted in the ZEXIS route ending, where Carlos not only survived his HeroicSacrifice, but has given up his fortune to work as a simple waiter]].
* ScrewThisImOuttaHere: Once he realizes the Imperium is done for, he promptly abandons it and leaves Shiony to her fate.
%%* ScrewTheRulesIHaveMoney

!! Dimensional Beasts

The recurring enemies of ''Hakai-hen'' and ''Saisei-hen'', Dimensional Beasts are part and parcel of a world that constantly suffers from dimensional quakes, with them appearing seemingly at random, and disappearing just as quickly after the initial rampage.
* AmbiguousRobots: Higher level beasts blur the line, such as the Rhino-class sprouting cannons to fire at you and the Dino-class having clawed arms that spin like drills. [[spoiler:Makes all the more sense once you realize how Dimensional Beasts are made]].
* ColonyDrop: Dino-class Beasts spit these out of their mouths in several bite-sized portions that fuse together into a gigantic meteor mid-flight.
* DetachmentCombat, ActionBomb: The ranged attack of the Bull-class has them hurl their own tails at you. Uniquely, these severed tails mutate midflight into a monster of its own. Should these hit, they wrap around the target and explode.
* EldritchAbomination: [[spoiler:FromACertainPointOfView]]
* EverythingsBetterWithRainbows: Rainbow crystals are implanted in their bodies that also glow blue/white when they begin their attacks.
* FanNickname: [[InSeriesNickname In-universe]], they're dubbed "DAMON" for "''D''imension ''A''rmed ''MON''ster", but players have made a new translation of that acronym as "''D''at ''A''nnoying ''MON''ster" due to [[DemonicSpiders certain reasons]].
* FireIceLightning: Bizzarely, Rhino-class Beasts mush them all together in their ranged attack, shooting electrified fireballs that flash-freeze whatever they hit!
* TheCatfish: The white-skinned Rhino-class coined "Moby Dick" ("MD" for short) by Esther. Of course, this color change makes it [[LawOfChromaticSuperiority superior]] to other Rhino-types, and it uses blue fire in its charging attack instead of orange.
* {{Leitmotif}}: "[=DAMON=]" for [=MD=], Dino-class, [[spoiler:Giga-class and Shin Dino-class]]; "Worlds Encroaching Alert" for Levia-class, [[spoiler:Rook-class and Shin Levia-class]]
* LivingShip: Levia-class; if you were wondering where those flat-headed flying Beasts that were fought in the opening cinematic were at, they're this.
%%* MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily
* {{Nerf}}: The artificial Beasts in ''Saisei-hen''. No barrier and cannot inflict status effects! Yaaay! [[spoiler:Of course, they later bring back the real deal...]]
* PowerUpFullColorChange: [[spoiler:In the final scenario of ''Saisei-Hen'', Gaiou displays his true power by generating Shin-class Dimensional Beasts, which are all [[GoldenSuperMode golden yellow]] and use [[LightIsNotGood light and lightning]]-themed attacks]].
* RammingAlwaysWorks: Bull- and Rhino-class will charge at you like runaway freight trains, mixing it up with ImpaledWithExtremePrejudice from the Bull-class and IncendiaryExponent[=/=]NotQuiteFlight from the Rhino-class.
%%* RoarBeforeBeating
* ShockAndAwe: Bull-class
* ThisIsADrill: Dino-class combine this with a chained RocketPunch that inflicts worse wounds on the target coming back than it does going out.
* WasOnceAMan: [[spoiler:Dimensional Beasts are the remains of those who have fought and lost to Gaiou previously, with the pilots being fused with their mecha, then mutated into their current forms]].
* WeaksauceWeakness: Like the [[{{Anime/Macross 7}} Protodevlin]], Dimensional Beasts are affected by Basara [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awAi36JjFiQ and his songs]].

!The Holy Kingdom of Insaraum
[[caption-width:300: Clockwise: Marguerite, Wayne, Gerard and Cheval]]

Hailing from another world, the Kingdom of Insaraum make their appearance in ''Hakai-hen'' as a group of knights serving Gaiou. However, their service is not willing; in fact, Insaraum's experiments in Dimensional Energy brought Gaiou and his army of Dimensional Beasts to their world. Unable to defeat him, the surviving Arksabers, the peacekeepers and royal guard of Insaraum, are forced to serve him in exchange for their lives.

In ''Saisei-hen'', the survivors of Insaraum are now trying to rebuild their kingdom. Unfortunately, they're trying to rebuild it on Earth. Tropes regarding multiple members of Insaraum are:
* ThemeNaming: The mecha and {{Leitmotif}} of Insaraum's knights are all named after precious gemstones.
** Cheval Reptail: Emeraldan; {{Leitmotif}}: "Impenetrable Emerald"
** Marguerite Pistail: Pearl Nail; {{Leitmotif}}: "Falling Tears of a Pearl"
** Wayne Ribtail: Sapphiada; {{Leitmotif}}: "Lone Sapphire"
** Geraud Garce Bantail: Diamud; {{Leitmotif}}: "Heavenly Diamond"

!! Cheval Reptail (Voiced by Takehiro Murozono)
* AntiVillain: He's only fighting for Gaiou because he's bound by the oath to serve him; however [[spoiler:he's really doing this in exchange for Marguerite's safety]].
* AnAxeToGrind: The Emeraldan [[DualWielding wields two axes]] called Rakki and Anki in his strongest attack.
%%* BlackKnight
%%* TheBrute
* HeelFaceDoorSlam: [[spoiler:[[FateWorseThanDeath Turned into a Dimensional Beast]] by Gaiou the moment [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sTPWJABzfEY he turns on him]]]].
* HonorBeforeReason: Serves Gaiou loyally, despite hating his guts, because as a knight, he cannot break his word.
* LargeHam: Overflowing; it's hard to say how serious he's being with it, really. It's almost comical in his intensity when we see him shouting Marguerite's name at the top of his lungs, with her seemingly standing right next to him.
* PostHumousCharacter: In ''Saisei-hen'', it's revealed Cheval is quite a high-ranking, respected Knight of Insaraum, as well as the former mentor of Wayne.

!! Marguerite Pistail (Voiced by Sachiko Kojima)
* EverythingIsBetterWithSpinning: Whenever you hit her, her Pearl Nail takes a spin.
* {{Expy}}: Like Xine, she's a busty female AntiVillain who's lost someone close to her [[spoiler:and becomes an EleventhHourRanger]].
* HeelFaceTurn: In both games; for ''Hakai-hen'', she becomes a NonPlayerCharacter, [[spoiler:unless the player fulfills certain conditions by having Crowe defeat her in every scenario she appears, then convinced by him in another, turning her into a SecretCharacter. Subverted in ''Saisei-hen'', since she is obtained by default]].
* WhatMeasureIsANonHuman: Is saddened by the death of a certain Dimensional Beast, [[spoiler:later revealed to be her brother. This serves as a {{Foreshadowing}} that all Dimensional Beasts you've been killing were once people. Chances are, though, they were never in control of their actions as a Dimensional Beast]].

! Wayne Ribtail (Voiced by Katsuya Miyamoto)
* AmbiguouslyBrown: He has a tannish brown, but since he is with the Arksabers, he's probably the same race as them.
* AvengingTheVillain: Seeks vengeance for the death of his former mentor Cheval [[spoiler:and Geraud]].
* TheBrute: While far from an actual brute, Wayne's more of a headstrong character along with hammers being his primary WeaponOfChoice, making him something of the team's heavy-hitter.
* CharacterDevelopment: When [[spoiler: Geraud dies and gives him the Diamud]], Wayne learns that leading the Arcsaber Knights is a tough task and mans up.
* FaceDeathWithDignity: When Wayne gets beaten in the [[spoiler: Diamud]], he stays behind and [[spoiler: dies in the resulting dimensional distortion]].
* HonorBeforeReason: Chooses to fight Crowe in attempts to avenge Cheval in unreasonable situations for the Arcsabers.
* ICallItVera: Refers to the twin hammers of his Sapphiada as [[AncientRome "Romulus" and "Remus"]].
* MidseasonUpgrade: [[spoiler:He inherits the Diamud after Geraud dies to replace his destroyed Sapphiada, in addition to inheriting [[BootstrappedLeitmotif Geraud's theme]]]].
* WorthyOpponent: [[spoiler:After he becomes the Knight of Knights]]
* WouldHitAGirl: Although he claims to be a feminist, Wayne states he won't hold back against women.

!! Geraud Garce Bantail, the Knight of Knights (Voiced by Creator/KoujiIshii)
* TheAce: From a gameplay standpoint, Geraud is one of the few bosses in ''Saisei-hen'' having phenomenally high stats, due to the game assuming players have heavily upgraded their units (even in "Special Mode"). While not especially difficult because of Spirit Commands, its use becomes mandatory against Geraud, since it's possible for a fully-upgraded allied unit to be destroyed by him.
* AceCustom[=/=]SuperPrototype: The Diamud is a far superior variant of the standard Arksaber mecha.
* BladeOnAStick: The Diamud's primary weapon is a heavy lance called "[[Myth/CelticMythology Gae Bolg]]".
* EvilGenius: At least when Anbrorn Jeus is TheDragon, since he's the most experienced warrior out of all the Knights.
* GetAHoldOfYourselfMan: Hits Wayne a few times when he doesn't show proper respect to Uther or Anbrorn.
* GracefulLoser: Should you destroy the Diamud without achieving a Dynamic Kill animation, the machine makes a salute just before it explodes.
* HeWillNotCrySoICryForHim: On the receiving end of this with Uther. Uther wept for Geraud's lost wife and child and with that Geraud's absolute loyalty to the new King was sealed.
* MidseasonUpgrade: Geraud starts off in an EliteMook mech before moving into his Diamud.
* ObiWanMoment: [[spoiler:After being defeated by Crowe and the Li-Brasta, he manages to make it back to his own forces and passes on his title and mecha to Wayne before dying from his injuries]].
* RedBaron: Holds the title of the "Knight of Knights" [[spoiler:which he passes onto Wayne before succumbing to a mortal wound]].
* WorthyOpponent: He and Crowe mutually respect each other like this.

! Anbrorn Jeus (Voiced by Kumiko Takizawa)
* TheDragon: Serves Uther as his right-hand woman.
* EldritchAbomination: [[spoiler:In her Dimensional Beast form; while each class of the monsters qualify, her form takes the cake by how disturbing it looks]].
* EvilOldFolks[=/=]NecessarilyEvil: Everything she does is for the sake of Insaraum and Uther, even if her methods are depraved. She doesn't mind if history writes her down as a villain, so long as Insaraum is revived.
* {{Expy}}: Of [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsOriginalGeneration Agilla Setme]]
* IWasQuiteALooker: During her ultimate attack, [[spoiler:she momentarily turns young again]], though she still has that creepy witch-like cackle.
* {{Leitmotif}}: [[spoiler:"Forbidden Beast" for her Dimensional Beast form]]
* MadScientist: She lives to experiment with dimensional energy, leading to Esther's transformation.
* PetTheDog: A very polite, gracious host to Kei, Athena, Orson, and Eureka while they're her prisoners. She even returns them to their Orguss units once she's gathered the data she needs, although she can't guarantee the Arksabers will let them go without a fight.
* PoisonousFriend: Manipulates her lord Uther because she truly believes the current course of action is what's best for him and for Insaraum.
* SmugSnake: She's overconfident and gets lucky, despite her many setbacks.
* UndyingLoyalty: To Uther, despite manipulating his actions for most of the game, so much that even [[CodeGeass Jeremiah Gottwald]] is staggered by her devotion.
* WasOnceAMan: [[spoiler:She turns herself into a Dimensional Beast]].

!! Uther Insaraum, the King of Restoration (Voiced by Yasuhiro Mamiya)
The leader of the Holy Kingdom of Insaraum, Uther's the Prince of Insaraum, but after his father died in battle against Gaiou he reluctantly became the new king and survived alongside the remaining members of the Kingdom to have his revenge. He pilots the ''Seiohki'' ("Holy King Machine") "Insarius Arclinus", the personal weapon of the ''Seioh'' ("Holy King"), which contains the Sphere of the "Inexhaustible Gourd", allowing him to revive fallen allies.
* AltumVidetur: He recites a Latin chant for his strongest attack.
* BeamSpam: Insarius Arclinus' "Sacred Crown"
* BigBad: [[spoiler:Subverted, because Gaiou turns out to be the BiggerBad for ''Saisei-hen'']].
* {{Bishounen}}: [[UpToEleven WOW]]! Even the Insarius Arclinus has a {{Bishonen}} face.
* {{BFS}}: Insarius Arclinus' "Collbrande"; notably, [[spoiler:the sword remained sheathed for the last 2000 years, until Uther awakened the Inexhaustible Gourd and gained access to it. According to Aim, this Sphere is among the most difficult to awaken, as the key to it requires love through self-sacrifice]].
* BlessedWithSuck: Every bit as much as Setsuko and maybe more. [[spoiler:The Sphere of the Inexhaustible Gourd [[CastFromHitPoints sucks out his life force to power itself]], rapidly enough to kill him within at most weeks of him using it]].
* BlingOfWar: Insarius Arclinus is easily one of the most pimped-out machines in [=SRW=] history.
* CurbStompBattle: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPtN0wMGeJY Uther crushes Gaiou without much effort]]. [[spoiler:Unfortunately, this Gaiou was a fake created by Aim]].
* DyingAlone: In the normal route, [[spoiler:he's abandoned by the Arksabers and dies with no one by his side, no thanks to his closest comrades having betrayed him or having died fighting for him]].
* EnemyMine: In the final scenario [[spoiler:of the ZEXIS route, he appears to align himself with Gaiou; however, this turns out to be a ruse so he can take out Gaiou. Unfortunately, Gaiou reveals he had anticipated Uther would try something like that, and goes OneWingedAngel, mortally wounding Uther]].
* {{Expy}}: Of the titular character from ''Literature/TheHappyPrince'', who sacrificed all that he has for the sake of his people.
** He also has great deal in common with [[Characters/MasouKishin Prince Feilord Gran Bilseia]]. For that matter, try to compare his motives and his way of doing it to [[spoiler:[[CodeGeass Lelouch Lamperouge]]]].
* FinalBossPreview: You actually see him in action quite early in ''Saisei-hen'', though his reluctance to fight makes him seem like a HarmlessVillain.
** In fact, it's so silly it's almost a subversion: he appears in scenario 16 and does nothing except defend every turn, and if he's hit just once he freaks out and runs back to his mothership. Wow. [[spoiler:Once you face him again on the field later, however...]]
* JerkassFacade: [[spoiler:Acts like an arrogant {{Jerkass}} after he "hardens his heart" so that ZEXIS wouldn't hesitate to fight against him]].
* {{Leitmotif}}: ''Ou no Ai wa Tami no Tame ni'' ("The King's Love is His People")
* LargeAndInCharge: At over 100 meters tall, the Insarius Arclinus dwarfs every other Insaraum mecha in the game.
* MeaningfulName: Named after Uther Pendragon, the father to KingArthur in Arthurian legends; the Insarius Arclinus even resembles a medieval king. The Collbrande is the alternate word for the {{Excalibur}}, Arthur's famous sword. Finally, compare the phonetic pronounciation of "Arclinus" to Aquarius, especially if you use both words with a Japanese accent. Makes sense when you realize Uther is the bearer of the Inexhaustible Gourd.
* PetTheDog: After awakening his Sphere and taking his place as the Holy King, [[spoiler:he allows one final act of kindness by restoring Esther into her human form]].
* PowerWalk: Part of Insarius Arclinus' strongest attack
* TooGoodForThisSinfulEarth: Ultimately, Uther was just too kind for his own good.
* TookALevelInBadass: About fifty of them, after [[spoiler:Geraud dies. He goes from a wimpy prince who flees after taking the slightest bit of damage to having the balls to put himself between Gaiou and ZEXIS, then proceeding to [[CurbStompBattle take him out in one attack]]]].
* WorldHealingWave: Part of Insarius Arclinus' strongest attack. Considering he's the King of Restoration and all, it fits.
* YankTheDogsChain: [[spoiler:The Gaiou he destroyed was a fake created by Aim]].
* ZeroApprovalGambit: [[spoiler:Acts like a ruthless, corrupt tyrant in order to get his Arksabers to abandon him, so that ZEXIS will fight him without mercy. His goal was to have Crowe kill him to acquire his Sphere, and for Marguerite to take control of the remaining population of Insaraum]].

! Others

!! Elgan Laudic
The Secretary-General of the United Nations, Elgan was the one who came up with the idea for the creation of ZEXIS. Prior to that, he aided both [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Celestial Being]] and the [[Anime/DancougarNova Dragon's Hive]] under the alias "Portman", supplying both organizations with useful information. After he reveals himself and aids in the creation of ZEXIS, he becomes highly invested in their continued success, at one point stating to Shiony that ZEXIS was "the only hope for the world". At the end of ''Hakai-hen'', [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Ribbons Almark]] has successfully drugged and controlled Elgan into serving him.

Sadly, near the end of ''Saisei-hen'', Ribbons shoots Elgan in a fit of rage at all his plans having been ruined, but Elgan survives long enough to pass information of what he knows onto ZEXIS before succumbing to his wounds.
* BigGood: Of the ''Second Super Robot Wars Z''
* TheChessmaster: [[spoiler:Elgan is the ACW's version of The Edel Bernal. Unlike his EvilCounterpart, Elgan refused to GoMadFromTheRevelation after learning of the Black Knowledge, but did his best to ensure humanity would be prepared to fight the oncoming calamity. To this end, he cooperated with [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Aeolia Schenberg]] [[CrazyPrepared from 200 years ago]] to help spur the evolution of the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Innovators]], and formed ZEXIS as a group of all the planet's greatest warriors, doing his best to help them get stronger with each trial they face]].
** Additionally, in ''Saisei-hen'', [[spoiler:Elgan reveals he [[OutGambitted anticipated Ribbons controlling him]], and ensured that regardless of what happened to him, ZEXIS would exist as a policing force independent of the Earth Sphere Federation, beyond the authority of even the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamWing Organization of Zodiac]] or the [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 A-Laws]]]].

! Aim Liard/Hamal Argo (Voiced by Creator/HirokiYasumoto)
Aim is the bearer of the Sphere of the "False Black Sheep" and infrequently appears throughout ''Hakai-hen'' to antagonize Crowe. Near the end of the game, Asakim kills him and claims his Sphere for his own. However, Aim survives thanks to using the unique abilities of the Sphere, leaving Asakim with nothing but a fake copy of the one he took. Aim returns to harass Crowe once more in ''Saisei-hen'', pretending to be servile to Uther while scheming to take his Sphere of the Inexhaustible Gourd, before confronting ZEXIS one last time.

Because the world is wrapped up in so much lies and deceit, Aim becomes seemingly invincible, until Asakim faces him once again. Using something he previously acquired, Asakim forces Aim to disclose his past: he was originally a researcher named Hamal Argo who built his entire career on lies. [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3Ix4aPAVVQ Forced to face this truth, the False Black Sheep is weakened to the point of deactivation, and Aim is swiftly dispatched by Uther for his manipulation of Insaraum]].
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:Via rewriting his death as a lie through the False Black Sheep]]
* BloodKnight: Said to "live for battle".
* TheChessmaster: [[spoiler:Aim essentially orchestrated the entirety of the ''Second Super Robot Wars Z'' through deceit and impersonations, providing Anbrorn with dimensional technology and bringing Gaiou into the world of ZEXIS, all in order to awaken both the Swaying Scales and the Inexhaustible Gourd so that he may harvest them]].
* ConsummateLiar: Justified - [[spoiler:the False Black Sheep makes him physically unable to tell the truth, thus everything coming out from his mouth is a lie of some form]].
* CursedWithAwesome: The False Black Sheep is one of the best Spheres if you don't mind lying all the time, as it lets the user otherwise gain full control of themselves, doesn't drain their senses like the Sorrowful Maiden or suck out their life force like the Inexhaustible Gourd, and [[spoiler:can turn the user into a full-fledged RealityWarper (truth turns into falsities; this means even death can be overridden), provided there's enough deceit and confusion going on in the world. It turns into BlessedWithSuck if the Truthful Goat is around, which can completely cancel all of its powers, a relationship so far unique among Spheres]].
* TheDragon: To Gaiou
* {{Keigo}}: Uses a really, really polite form of speech even when he's getting hammered by ZEXIS.
* MeaningfulName: On multiple levels. "Aim Liard" becomes a partial anagram of "I'm a liar". Pretty suitable, since he's the Reactor of the False Black Sheep. His mecha "Arietis" refers to the constellation and zodiac sign of Aries. Lastly, Hamul means "star" in Aramaic and Argo means "the head of the ram" in Greek, making him the bearer of the Sphere representing "the star at the head of the ram".
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Known as "Aihm Fahviel" to some people for no good reason.
* {{Leitmotif}}: "[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ioLLEmni6q0 Untrue Crystal]]"
* VillainousBreakdown: [[spoiler:[[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MW_YhTFA1rU When he's cornered by ZEUTH and ZEXIS]], he starts stuttering and spouting nonsense like crazy. ** [[spoiler:Based on his demeanor in the final battle with him in ''Saisei-hen'', it seems Aim starts speaking tongues when his [[MySkullRunnethOver power boils over]], and starts lying more frantically (as in the "2+2=fish" sense) as the Arietis takes damage, in an effort to keep his power up]].
** [[spoiler:He has a ''real'' breakdown when Asakim uses the Truthful Goat, [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3Ix4aPAVVQ forcing Aim to reveal his past and face the truth, weakening him enough]] to be KilledOffForReal]].

! Marilyn Catto (Voiced by Creator/SatsukiYukino)
The leader of the Firebug Squad and Crowe's former commanding officer. Eventually allies with Insaraum.
* BadBoss: She's the reason Crowe hates pretty women
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: [[spoiler:[[CuteAndPsycho The selfish, completely self-absorbed crazy mega-bitch]] eventually gives her life for the sake of Uther, touched by his all-encompassing kindness]].
* ColonelBadass: More of Colonel AxCrazy
* ChristmasCake: Has a special quote against the prettier younger women of ZEUTH and ZEXIS that seems to be her envying them being good-looking without being TheFakeCutie.
--> "Tee-hee... I won't let you take over as the Princess of the Battlefield!"
--> "I just hate that glow younger girls have!
* DirtyOldWoman: If her quotes against the younger male pilots of ZEUTH and ZEXIS is looked at in a certain way
--> "I love pure young men!"
* ElegantGothicLolita: Her costume
* EvilTwin: Marilyn's Pearl Fang looks exactly like Marguerite's Pearl Nail, except black.
* EverythingIsBetterWithSpinning: Like the Pearl Nail, the Pearl Fang takes a spin whenever it's hit.
* {{Expy}}: Compares herself to the swallow in the tale of ''The Happy Prince''. [[spoiler:Just like the swallow died for the prince, she dies for Uther]].
* TheFakeCutie: Her character encyclopedia entry mentions she's taken cosmetic surgery to maintain her looks and she makes the men in her squad treat her like a princess. May double as a case of OlderThanTheyLook.
%%* FemmeFatalons
* GratuitousEnglish: "Present for you!" and "Burn in Hell!"

* TheNicknamer: She calls Crowe "Furafura-chan" and Esther "Little Kitten".
%%* SayItWithHearts
* SlasherSmile: Her face looks more disturbing than Asakim and Aim's

Headlining protagonist of the ''Third Super Robot Wars Z'', Hibiki Kamishiro is a second-year high school transfer student at 2nd New Tokyo's Research Academy City with strong survival instincts and has a father who retired from the military. Before his transfer, Hibiki and his father were "beast hunters", specializing in destroying creatures that appear from parallel worlds. When Hibiki comes across an unknown machine and boards it, he is commissioned by "AG", an agent for the "DEM[[note]]''Dimension Energy Machinery''[[/note]] Corporation", to become its test pilot. Now hired by his new contractors, Hibiki uses the Genion to accomplish his missions and will sacrifice anything to do it, [[TheStoic preferring to close his heart off to everyone]].
* AttackDrones: Geminion Ray's "Hound Penetrator Lighter"
* AwesomeButImpractical: [[SuperMode Genion GAI]] for most of ''Jigoku-hen''. It gives a major power boost, but has a high Will requirement and only lasts one turn. Averted when he gets the Sphere of the Quarreling Twins.
* {{BFG}}: Genion GAI's "Bifröst", and designed to double as a BatteringRam. It also functions as a {{BFS}}, though this appears to be DummiedOut in ''Jigoku-hen'' (sprite sheets indicate the weapon [[http://imgur.com/vakrfis houses a switchblade configuration]]).
* BadassFingersnap: Genion GAI creates explosions with this during [[spoiler:"Nibelung Annihilation"]]
* BladeOnAStick: Genion's "Accel Glaive"
** BifurcatedWeapon: The Accel Glaive can split into two short swords for the Geminion Ray or combine with the AttackDrones to form [[{{BFS}} an even bigger glaive]] during "The Over Riser Arc" attack.
* ButtMonkey: Effectively a scapegoat for [[LightNovel/FullMetalPanic Sôsuke Sagara]] ([[LightNovel/FullMetalPanic Kaname Chidori]] chews Hibiki out) and [[Anime/MacrossFrontier Alto Saotome]]. In the "Sayonara, Idol" DownloadableContent for ''Jigoku-hen'', [[Anime/DancougarNova Johnny Barnett]] plays from a clip from a movie starring [[Anime/DancougarNova Eida Rossa]], in hopes of having Hibiki understand her charm as a IdolSinger. It winds up with him mentally broken with DullEyesOfUnhappiness saying "Chu! Chu! Chu! Chu!"[[note]]The Japanese equivalent of a kissing sound[[/note]] [[MadnessMantra again and again]].
* EleventhHourSuperpower: In ''Jigoku-hen'', [[spoiler: the Sphere of the Quarreling Twins]] and Genion GAI's final attack.
* FlawedPrototype: [[spoiler:The Genion is a machine designed to imitate the capabilities of the Geminia. For most of ''Jigoku-hen'', the Genion is rendered an inferior weapon because it's a knockoff. Averted once Hibiki acquires the Sphere of the Quarreling Twins]].
* CovertPervert: Despite being a serious minded individual and a [[TheStoic stoic]], he joins [[LightNovel/FullMetalPanic Kurz Weber]] and [[Anime/ShinMazinger Boss and his gang]] as they attempt to peep at the girls' during the HotSpringsEpisode. Subverted by the fact he didn't know what they were planning, and only tagged along because they asked him to get through the booby traps.
* {{Determinator}}: Given as a protagonist, but even more so that he constantly endures the struggle of his inner conflict between hope and despair.
* GoodScarsEvilScars: Across his nose
* GratuitousEnglish: Rather fond of it
** [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jvHrtErZpXo So what!]]
* IKnowKarate: Jeet Kune Do, to be exact. It doesn't come up much in battle outside of a stance when using the Genion's "Impact Dagger", [[spoiler:until the Genion GAI's Nibelung Annihilation, effectively a string of martial art techniques powered by the Quarreling Twins]].
* InSeriesNickname: "Knight", a nickname his dead older sister gave him; coincidentally, Suzune Saijou also calls him this, likening him to one after rescuing her. Additionally, Hibiki uses this as his Occult Forum username.
* ItemCaddy: Thanks to a GoodBadBug in ''Tengoku-hen'', he's the best character to give the "Parts Supply" pilot skill[[note]]Consumable parts can be used on own team or on a member of an adjacent team.[[/note]] and load him up with some recovery items or the "Insalaum's Secret Treasure" part[[note]] Casts "Love" Spirit Command once per stage[[/note]].
* KnightInShiningArmor: Invoked via a glowing, blue light when Hibiki saves Suzune from falling off one of [[Anime/ShinMazinger Count Brocken's Mechanical Beasts]].
* {{Leitmotif}}: Hitomi no Naka no Ashita ("Tomorrow Within the Eyes") and Kinki to iu Na no Kibou ("The Taboo of the Name of Hope")
* MeaningfulName: Hibiki means "echo." [[spoiler:He and the Genion are "echoes" of Gadlight and the Geminia, at least until he receives the real Sphere of the Quarreling Twins]].
* MidSeasonUpgrade: Geminion Ray in ''Tengoku-hen''
** Unlike most cases, the Ray isn't a separate mech, but rather a SuperMode for the Genion GAI that doesn't have a time limit.
* NoHoldsBarredBeatdown: Geminion Ray's "Balmung Elimination" and "The Over Riser Arc"
* RunningGag: Whenever Hibiki gets all hopeful about not being sulky or dark anymore and somebody says that he's still not quite there, he gets depressed; causing promptly somebody say "How bothersome!" each time.
* ShipTease: At the very least, Hibiki is slightly attracted to Suzune; he gets jealous that [[Manga/GetterRobo Ryouma Nagare]] gets along with her better than he does. Played with in the first DownloadableContent scenario of ''Jigoku-hen'', as AG delivers a speech akin to a wedding sermon when Hibiki and Suzune formally become partners.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: Is it "Genion" or "Gemion"? The former seems to be the case, [[spoiler: as Gadlight's Geminia is really the one with the Sphere, following the ThemeNaming of the WesternZodiac more closely]].
* SpikesOfDoom: Geminion Ray's "Nitro Harken"
* SuperMode: [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igaNaaYypso Genion GAI]] ("Glitter Armament Infinity"). [[spoiler:And then there's Geminion Ray.]]
* NotSoStoic: [[spoiler:The death of Advent causes a series of emotional reactions in him - sadness, followed by UnstoppableRage]].
%%* TallDarkAndHandsome
* ThemeNaming: All of the Genion GAI's attacks are named after elements from Myth/NorseMythology - "Helheim"[[note]]Alternate name for [[{{Hell}} Hel]][[/note]], "Midgardsormr"[[note]]Also known as [[SeaMonster Jörmungandr]][[/note]], "Vánagandr"[[note]]Alternate name for [[CanisMajor Fenrir]][[/note]], "[[spoiler:Nibelung Annihilation]]"[[note]]Based on {{Gotterdammerung}}[[/note]]
** Balmung is an alternate name of the "Gram", the sword Sigurd used to slay the dragon Fafnir.
* TrueCompanions: Hibiki forms a close-knit friendship with Sousuke, [[Anime/ShinMazinger Kouji Kabuto]] and Alto at school. Although [[Anime/MacrossFrontier Mikhail Blanc]], Boss, [[Anime/ShinMazinger Nuke and Mucha]] are included, it's primarily the four at the center.
** Note Sousuke initially distrusts him (since he's trying to be a secret bodyguard and Hibiki's a pilot for an unclassified HumongousMecha), while Alto and Sousuke despised one another in their first mission together (the former's an arrogant civilian, the latter a consummate professional. FireForgedFriends is definitely shown between them throughout ''Jigoku-hen''.
* TheUnchosenOne: [[spoiler:Suzune was the intended pilot of the Genion. The black nucleus Hibiki touched at the beginning of ''Jigoku-hen'' was the Genion's manual and pilot registration system. The DEM Corporation sent it to scout Suzune as its pilot, but it wound up in Hibiki's hands instead]].
** [[spoiler: Unlike the other Z originals, Hibiki isn't a Sphere Reactor at the start of the game. Rather, he ends up stealing the Sphere of the Quarreling Twins from [[TheHeavy Gadlight]].]]
** ZigzaggedTope: [[spoiler:He is chosen by Advent for being his "experiment sample". A particularly good one, as it is.]]

!Suzune Saijou (Voiced by Creator/RyokaYuzuki)

Female protagonist of the ''Third Z'', 21 year-old Suzune Saijou is a high school student teacher appointed to Research Academy City. Her obliging, well-mannered personality has her popular among the students. Due to events in ''Jigoku-hen'', she winds up boarding the Genion with Hibiki.
* BeneathTheMask: Her other personality is bossy, energetic, flirtatious and wild, the opposite of her regular, homely persona. Her DownloadableContent scenario reveals this isn't so much an alternate personality, rather an odd compulsion for her to talk and act differently. It's always "her" and Suzune's aware she does this, but unsure why at all.
* CastingGag: One of Ryoka Yuzuki's well-known roles is [[Anime/QueensBlade Cattleya]]; the fact Suzune's piloting suit looks like a less skimpy version of Cattleya's outfit should tell players something, including how she wears eyeglasses in her non-combative personality.
* {{Meganekko}}: Suzune acts as per this trope, but loses the glasses when she starts co-piloting the Genion. [[spoiler:And once Ambriel gives her full control, wears the glasses even when copiloting]]
* MeaningfulName: [[spoiler:Suzune's real name, "Ambriel", is based on the angel of the month of May, with ties to the sun sign of the astrological Gemini, which traditionally begins in the same month]].
* MissedTheCall: [[spoiler:See [[TheUnchosenOne Hibiki's]] entry - she was the intended pilot of the Genion]]. This takes a darker turn in ''Tengoku-hen'' [[spoiler:when Ambriel reveals she is another incarnation of The Edel]].
* MsFanservice: According to AG, Suzune's piloting suit is based on her inner desires. In a sense, her SplitPersonality is to blame for the outfit, showcasing an [[AbsoluteCleavage Absolute]] CleavageWindow.
* ShipTease: With Hibiki, particularly since he rescues and swears to protect her, how she addresses him by his nickname and they become partners. [[spoiler:Once she gets some of Ambriel's confidence and desire to act on what she wants, she starts being more direct about her crush on him.]]
* SplitPersonalityMerge: [[spoiler:Her two aspects fuse in the midst of ''Tengoku-hen'', with the "original" Suzune personality becoming the primary, but having Ambriel's assertiveness and flirtatiousness]].

!AG (Voiced by Creator/DaisukeHirakawa)
* TheDogWasTheMastermind: See this cute looking robot? [[spoiler: He is in fact The Edel Bernal, specifically their representative, and thus was responsible for the majority of the events leading up to Z3]].
* {{Gonk}}: [[spoiler: When he is revealed as The Edel Bernal, he takes the form of the hideously disfigured Jie Beibel]].
* MeaningfulName: [[spoiler: His name stands for "All Gathered" as in he has the memories and consciousness of the infinite versions of The Edel Bernal across the multiverse and acts as their representative]].
* MediumAwareness: Crowe isn't very enthusiastic about making ace pilot since it's just an empty accolade. But AG disagrees, saying that his fortunes will improve. And in fact, it's awakened a latent ability in Crowe that will make him acquire more money (a reference to his Ace Bonus) which has Crowe over the moon. AG smirks, thinking to himself that the money doesn't go into his wallet but rather Z-BLUE's coffers. So fight on, Crowe, for the sake of Z-BLUE's revenue.
* IKnewIt: [[spoiler:His name (and Seiyuu) already attracts WMG that he's actually The Edel Bernal. Well......]]
* OhCrap: Has a hilarious one when [[spoiler: after revealing he is The Edel Bernal and thus responsible for many of the miseries leading up to Z3]], sees that the entirety of Z-BLUE is ''pissed'' and receives a collective beat-down from them.
* PlayboyBunny: Also, when you Ace Loran, AG gives him a bunny girl costume, saying that it's perfect attire for a member of the Moonrace, referencing the moon rabbit folklore. Loran insists that he's a bloke but AG goes "oh yeah? but I heard about the Laura thing"
* RunningGag: His monitor-face got cracked for a few times in Z3.
* {{Troll}}: Messes with Z-BLUE during some of their Ace Bonus Events
** Zero claims that he doesn't ever need to take the mask off, since mastering eating food with it on. AG tests him by seeing if he can eat steaming hot oden through the eye slit, and Zero confidently attempts to do so and suffers [[AmusingInjuries several scalding burns]] in the attempt.
** AG provides a bunch of erotic photos in an attempt to trigger Amata's sky boner, but Amata confidently states that he saw it coming so he put on more weight as to not float away. AG shows him the pictures which he finds quite appealing, and AG bluffs by going "Oh hey there Mikono". Amata is caught off guard because he shouldn't be seen like that and he floats to the ceiling, to which AG states that falling for a bluff like that he's still far off and confiscates the pictures as result.

!!Advent (Voiced by Creator/JunichiSuwabe)

A mysterious young man who pilots the mobile weapon Asclepius. Always has a warm smile on his face and bears a gentle and graceful demeanor.

[[spoiler:See the Walking Spoiler to see his true identity.]]
* BeamSpam: Asclepius' "Folding Smasher"
* {{BFG}}: Asclepius' "G Dimension Liberator" is usually stored in a pocket space until the machine summons it. When the weapon fires, the attack is called "Astral Shoot".
* GuestStarPartyMember: Advent doesn't officially join Z-BLUE, but will occasionally assist Hibiki and his allies.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:Advent was aligned with Chrono, but he believes Hibiki is more worthy of holding the Sphere of the Quarreling Twins than Gadlight Meonsam]].
* HeroicSacrifice: [[spoiler:Pulls this in order to upset the balance of the Quarreling Twins, giving Hibiki the chance to steal the Sphere and unlock the Genion's SuperMode]].
* KnightInShiningArmor: Advent appears whenever Hibiki is in trouble. In fact, the Asclepius looks like a white-armored knight.
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Son of Sun"
* LetsGetDangerous: He's fights intensely against his enemies, to a point where Advent may seem arrogant.

!! King
* DespairEventHorizon: He lost all hope because [[spoiler:his son is dead]].
* GenerationXerox: He resembles [[spoiler:Carlos Axion Jr.]] because he is [[spoiler:Carlos Axion Sr]].
* LegacyCharacter: [[spoiler:His family has traditionally always been Chrono's King, and Jr. was supposed to be the next one]].
* MysteriousWatcher: Comments on events in ''Jigoku-hen'' with Queen. He holds a meeting with Cygus when he joins Chrono.

* BackForTheFinale: [[spoiler:See Xine's entry above with the rest of the Z1 villains for further info]].
* BerserkButton: At one point in ''Tengoku-hen'', she laments the tranquility of the days long past. She despises the pluralized world, and as he's the proximate cause of it, she reserves a special contempt for Kei. But [[TheOnlyOneAllowedToDefeatYou she would prefer not to see him in the hands of Sidereal]], so she gives Z-BLUE another piece of intel: the location of his partner, Orson. [[spoiler:Given who she's [[TheReveal revealed]] as, this particular button serves as {{Foreshadowing}}.]]
* ChaoticNeutral: Invoked - Sumeragi wonders what her angle is by helping Z-BLUE, and Queen replies that as she intimated already, she doesn't give a damn about Chrono's creed. In fact, ideally she'd like to see both Chrono factions wipe each other out because the both sides would like to see the status quo maintained. [[spoiler:Again, it makes sense, given her true identity.]]
* FaceFramedInShadow: In the stinger for ''Tengoku-hen'', when she's talking to Asakim.
* MysteriousWatcher: Comments on events in ''Jigoku-hen'' with King

! Geminis

!!Annalotta Stohls (Voiced by Kazumi Togashi)
* ADayInTheLimelight: A DownloadableContent scenario in ''Jigoku-hen'' focuses on a [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vubTHBAUcQA flashback]] of [[spoiler:the destruction of her home planet]].
* AcePilot: Along with her composure and skill while commanding the battlefield, Annalotta is a top-class mobile weapon pilot.
* TheDragon: Vice-Director of Geminis
* {{Gendercide}}: [[spoiler:She's the last surviving woman of Gadlight's people and carrying his child. Their males cannot produce heirs of the same race (the child takes on the species of the mother), thus without her, they will become extinct]].
* PregnantBadass: [[spoiler: Despite carrying Gadlight's child, her supreme dedication to his cause means that she's willing to pilot a giant robot and destroy anyone that opposes Geminis.]]
* PsychicPowers: Directly applies her telekinetic abilities to influence the flow of battle
* RedOniBlueOni: The blue to Gadlight due to her composure and skill in combat
* TheUnfettered: Ruthlessly violent when it comes to fulfilling her mission, and won't refrain from pulling inhumanly cruel maneuvers on her opponent.

!! Gadlight Meonsam (Voiced by Shunsuke Sakuya)

The leader of Geminis.
* AceCustom: The Geminia is developed specifically for Gadlight and outfitted with the best technology available in the world.
* AcePilot[=/=]DrunkenMaster: His character portait always looks like he's plastered, yet he's the strongest pilot from the planet Gemini.
* ADayInTheLimelight: A DownloadableContent scenario in ''Jigoku-hen'' focuses on a [[http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vubTHBAUcQA flashback]] of [[spoiler:the destruction of his home planet]].
* BackFromTheDead: [[spoiler:Gadlight reappears in ''Tengoku-hen'', with the reveal that Annalotta gave birth to twins before she died]].
** [[spoiler:BackForTheDead: He is truly killed when engaging Wildark head-on.]]
* BrilliantButLazy: Gadlight is capable of taking the [[ConflictBall sleeping desire for conflict inside the hearts of humanity and reversing them]], which he takes advantage of to throw the combined Earth into chaos. At the same time, he loves to laze around and drink sake, and regularly stays at a bar watching the chaos he unleashed.
* CutenessOverload: During the final battle, Gadlight looks at [[LightNovel/FullMetalPanic Bonta-kun]] and he experiences this.
-->'''Bonta-kun''': Fumoffu!\\
'''Gadlight''': Go away! Don't come any closer, mousebear!\\
'''Bonta-kun''': Fumoffu!\\
'''Gadlight''': Pigcat, when you get near me, the balance inside me collapses!\\
'''Bonta-kun''': Fumoffu!\\
'''Gadlight''': Could it be that you're also a Sphere Reactor, and causing my will to fight to slip away!?\\
'''Bonta-kun''': Fumoffu!\\
'''Gadlight''': Damn it! Damn it all! I give up, I admit it! You're a cute little bastard!
* FinalBossPreview: Regularly shows up during intermissions or watching battles through television broadcasts until scenario 35, when he appears with the Geminia for a turn. [[LordBritishPostulate It's possible to defeat Gadlight in this scenario]], provided the player invests in upgrades and carefully strategize for a turn. [[spoiler:Doing so ensures a surefire method of unlocking the "Defy Destiny" route]].
* {{Foreshadowing}}: [[spoiler:Hibiki's mother died before he went to live with his father and sister, but the circumstances of her death are suspicious, considering how one of Gadlight's last words are "Your mother's beckoning in Hell!" (it's even a voiced map event)]].
* GreenEyedMonster: Geminis' duty is to ensure the Earth is protected against Ba'al [[spoiler:by initiating the "Time Prison"]]. However, Gadlight wants to spread chaos [[spoiler:and destroy the planet because he's upset his own world was obliterated while the Earth gets special treatment]].
* TheHeavy[=/=]DiscOneFinalBoss: Serves as the de facto BigBad of ''Jigoku-hen'' but is himself only a servant of Ba'al.
* HeelFaceTurn: [[spoiler:After losing his position in Sidereal, his wife, and everything else but his children, he pulls this and fights alongside Hibiki in ''Tengoku-hen'']].
* KickTheSonOfABitch: [[spoiler:During his VillainousBreakdown in Scenario 58, Gadlight destroys Cygus (the corrupt general within the Earth Federation) and a large portion of the Earth Federation fleet with a gigantic beam attack]].
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Lost Soldiers"
* MercyKill: Invoked - in ''Jigoku-hen'', Amuro questions Gadlight on the meaning of a world [[spoiler:frozen in time]]. Gadlight simply calls it "[[StatusQuoIsGod maintaining the status quo]]", a world where [[spoiler:they are eternally prisoners trapped in a "Time Prison", and denied a future]]. Kouji wonders if it's an effect of the Genesis Space-Time Quake that merged the worlds together in ''Jigoku-hen''; Gadlight confirms this and states that while it's an awful predicament humanity is in, [[spoiler:he might as well attempt to annihilate the Earthlings, anyways]].
* MadeOfIron: Literally, his species possesses ultra-durable metallic skin.
* PsychoPrototype: The Geminia looks almost identical to the Genion GAI. [[spoiler:Subverted as the Genion IS the actual prototype to the Geminia]].
* RedOniBlueOni: The red to Annalotta because of his impulsive, slovenly attitude. While he gets frequently reprimanded by her, Gadlight doesn't intend to retaliate.
* RedemptionEqualsDeath: [[spoiler:In a sense. While he returns in ''Tengoku-hen'' to help Hibiki, he still doesn't want to join Z-BLUE and instead fight on for himself. That said, it doesn't last long as he is quickly killed by Australis when fighting him]].
* SoreLoser: This is basically his entire motivation. [[spoiler:His planet was wiped out, so he wants Earth to be wiped as well because if his race is doomed, then no race gets to prosper. When humanity manages to stop the Time Prison and ruin his plans, as well as defeat the initial wave of the Ba'al he totally loses it, attacking his own human allies in a rage and screaming how its not fair that everything worked out for Hibiki and humanity but not for him. Even when you kill him he spends his last breath cursing Hibiki and Z Blue for winning and saying he's hoping the Ba'al wipe Earth out after all, and then literally makes a crack about Hibiki's mother before dying.]]
* TooSpicyForYogSothoth: [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny Shinn Asuka]] in ''Jigoku-hen'' overpowers the effect of the LaserGuidedAmnesia he has on himself by entering "[[SuperMode SEED Mode]]" with sheer anger, and Gadlight worries his influence might cause a snowball effect on the rest of Z-BLUE when [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamSEEDDestiny Kira Yamato]] similarly activates SEED.
* [[spoiler:TookALevelInKindness]]: [[spoiler:After he returns in ''Tengoku-hen'', he admits Hibiki has grown up as a fighter and speaks in a less-threatening tone. He still doesn't want to fight alongside Z-Blue though.]]
* VillainTeamUp: Since he's a part of Ba'al, the [[Manga/GetterRobo Invaders]], Mugann and [[Anime/{{Gunbuster}} STMC]] act as his troops, [[spoiler:including [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamUnicorn Full Frontal]], as they plan on {{Colony Drop}}ping [[Anime/MobileSuitGundamCharsCounterattack Axis]]]].
* YouKilledMyFather: [[spoiler:Hibiki believes Gadlight is responsible for the deaths of his father and sister, since Hibiki's eyes change colors whenever they meet, which occurs because Hibiki survived a dimensional quake. Subverted when Gadlight denies he had anything to do with it, since it was Advent who killed them]].

! Sidereal

Tropes shared between members of Sidereal:
* BunnyEarsLawyer: The Sphere Reactors of Sidereal come off as incompetent, but are pretty dangerous and effective.
* DeadPersonConversation: After beating the FinalBoss, [[spoiler:Hibiki, Rand, Setsuko, and Crowe get to chat withthe ghosts of the Sidereal Sphere Reactors]].
* EvilCounterpart: Shikuu, Straus, and Barbiel to Crowe, Mail, and Setsuko, respectively. The former three are also Sphere Reactors like the respective ''Z'' protagonists.
* ForcedIntoEvil: [[spoiler:Sidereal is basically The Four Angels' cronies composed of survivors of people they've slaughtered]].
* WesternZodiac: Australis, Barbiel, Shikuu, and Straus have Zodiac motifs. Australis has a bracelet with a bow and arrow logo representing Saggitarius. Barbiel has a scorpion-themed buckle. Straus has a bull skull on his belt buckle.

!! Australis (Voiced by Creator/HideyukiHori)
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: He fights the Genion on foot and wins.
* {{Determinator}}: The Sphere of the Standing Archer is powered by one's determination to keep rising again even after getting beaten down.
** WeaksauceWeakness: The inverse is if that his opponent gives up easily, the Sphere loses power.
* FallenHero: [[spoiler:Like Gaiou, he was a Dimensional General]].
* GivenNameReveal: His real name is [[spoiler:Wildark, alongside TheReveal he is another Dimensional General]].
* GodEmperor: Ruler of the Gaia Empire Sidereal, who commands three Sphere Reactors.
* HiddenAgendaVillain: [[spoiler:Australis plots to defeat The Four Angels. Elunaluna and Shikuu, having had their people destroyed by Sidereal, are in on his plan, and willingly die to give him their Spheres]].
* LastStand: [[spoiler:After Z-BLUE reaches shinka he angsts over how he killed so many people to make his dimensional monsters and decides he has to keep fighting or everything he's done so far will be for nothing]].
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Delusional God of War"
* MeaningfulName: Named after "Kaus Australis", the traditional name of "Epsilon Sagittarii", a binary star system that's part of the Sagittarius constellation.
* TheVirus: [[spoiler:Like Gaiou, Australis has the same ability to turn HumongousMecha and its pilots into Dimensional Beasts by infecting them with Dimensional Crystals]].
* WalkingShirtlessScene: Australis wears an outfit revealing his abs and pecs. He's in good shape.

!! Barbiel the Needle (Voiced by Creator/DaisukeKishio)
* DespairEventHorizon: Apparently Barbiel crossed it at some point, as An Ares' strongest attack hints at it.
* DontYouDarePityMe: He gets really angry when Setsuko gets freed out of captivity by [[spoiler:Asakim]]. She tells him that she felt his sorrow and says that he is a sad person. In fact, sympathy towards the bearer of the Resentful Scorpion sphere causes its powers to weaken.
* DudeLooksLikeALady: He has purple hair and he wears makeup, making him look quite feminine.
* EternalEngine[=/=]RoboticTortureDevice: One of the An Ares's attacks involves summoning a gigantic machine with plenty of gears and whipping his hapless foe into it. They suffer countless offscreen agonies and spit out, causing plenty of damage.
* ExactWords: Simon reveals that Sidereal managed to steal the Chouginga Daigurren which obviously couldn't land on Earth and had to wait around in space while Simon and the others fought down below. Barbiel used his venom to take a great number of hostages, and used them to blackmail Simon into handing over the ship. Nia's the one who convinced them to give it up, stating that "We can always take back our hope, but life cannot be recovered once lost". And Barbiel honored his end of the agreement by releasing the hostages... who, contaminated by his venom, were berserking lunatics.
* FreezeFrameBonus: Hit the pause button during the An Ares' strongest attack; images of Barbiel in despair and [[spoiler:the Supreme God Z]] can be seen.
* HatePlague: The Sphere of the "Resentful Scorpion" awakens the latent hatred and resentment in other people, depriving them of their higher reasonings. When it is unleashed upon the people of [[spoiler: New Japan]] during Sidereal's conquest, Zero had use his Geass to stop them in their tracks.
* HumanShield: To capture Noriko and the Gunbuster, Barbiel used human shields to force a surrender from Noriko. As a result, Noriko (like the rest of Z-BLUE) has a grudge against Barbiel.
* Jerkass: In case his mouth and his action doesn't obvious enough.
* ICallItVera: He gave the An Ares its current name because [[spoiler:Gun (like in Gunbuster and Gundam) was a thing used everywhere in his world and it makes him saaad]].
* {{Leitmotif}}: Sabbath of Resentment
* MeaningfulName
** An Ares is an obvious reference to the star Antares, the brightest star in the Scorpio constellation.
** Barbiel is the angel representing the month of October; traditionally, the astrological Scorpio occurs in October.
* {{Narcissist}}: Hates everything but himself
* {{Nanomachines}}: When the An Ares poisons the Genion, [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Tieria Erde]] immediately identifies the poison infecting the Genion as this trope. Fortunately, these nanomachines can be shorted out with a simple "[[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 TRANS-AM Burst]]" or a Moonlight Butterfly. However, there's another variant, but it cannot distinguish between friend and foe.
* PerversePuppet: The machine with a spike jutting out one of its eyes is not the real An Ares. The real An Ares, during its strongest attack, reveals that it controls the fake through its stinger and that it is a scorpion.
* SoleSurvivor: [[spoiler:Barbiel is from a parallel Earth and the sole survivor. Everyone but him dying awakened the sphere in his robot, the Gun Ares (the An Ares' original name)]].
* TooManyBelts: His abs are covered by the belts in his outfit.
* VillainousBreakdown: Did this just before begin absorbed by Australis, Even begging Setsuko to help him. Also notice to be the only one out of the members to do this.
* VillainousCrush: If Crowe attacks Barbiel in scenario 22 of the Rescue Sousuke route, Crowe delivers a fantastic taunt by pointing out that he's well aware of Barbiel's crush on Setsuko. This taunt works a treat.
* WhipItGood: The An Ares uses an energy whip.

!! Shikuu (Voiced by Koichi Sakaguchi)

The mysterious pilot of the Shiseiten, he is the Reactor of the Sphere of the "Taciturn Giant Crab".
* CoolShades: Shikuu wears them in combat; his grunts in Sidereal wear the same ones.
* DarkIsEvil: The Shiseiten radiates darkness in its AreaOfEffect attack and exhales it during its regular attack.
* DemBones: The Shiseiten doesn't look mechanical for a machine, but rather a mash-up of animal skeletons.
* EasterEgg: Shikuu's {{Leitmotif}} has hidden lyrics[[labelnote:Spoiler]]\\
He who bares the Spheres\\
He who will become the King\\
Praise to him, Praise to him\\
He will return the ends of times are near\\
He who bares the Spheres\\
The twelve chosen their cruel fates will meet\\
They will meet again, all the Spheres\\
He who bares the Spheres\\
He who will become the King\\
He will free the universe[[/labelnote]]
* EldritchAbomination: The Shiseiten is a six-mouthed monstrosity that rivals even the Dimensional Beasts in appearance.
* EvenEvilHasStandards: [[spoiler:Although Shikuu is sent to assassinate Annalotta, he spares her newborn twins]].
* HiddenAgendaVillain[=/=]YouHaveFailedMe: Shikuu comes to Earth under orders from Ba'al [[spoiler:to execute Annalotta]], mysteriously appears to Z-BLUE, [[spoiler:then leaves afterwards in the epilogue scenario of ''Jigoku-hen'']].
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Assembly of Corpse Spirits"
* MeaningfulName: Shikuu mentions his role as the ''Kishuku'' or "day of the ghost" for the Sidereal. The latter is part of a set of Chinese constellations that shares some of its stars with the constellation of Cancer.
* MoreTeethThanTheOsmondFamily: The Shiseiten is a six-mouthed beast with tons of sharp fangs.
* NamesToRunAwayFromReallyFast: Breaking down the name of the Shiseiten results in "shi" ("corpse), "sei" ("passes/pass away") and "ten" ("heaven").
* NotSoDifferent: Finally admit one to [[spoiler: Crowe before his dead]]
* PetTheDog: [[spoiler:If not for trolling the Angels, he spared Gadlight and Annalotta's twin daughters, leaving "seeds" for the Geminis.]]
* PostFinalBoss: [[spoiler:Shikuu only appears during the epilogue of ''Jigoku-hen'' and stays for a few turns before retreating, primarily to test the capabilities of the Shiseiten]].
* PowerCreepPowerSeep: Ranges from being a PostFinalBoss to a mid-tier boss in ''Tengoku-hen'', such that Rand, Setsuko and Crowe can easily best.
* RedAndBlackAndEvilAllOver: Shikuu's outfit is red and black, and his actions indicate he's up to no good.
* SinisterShades: Bright orange ones
* TheComicallySerious: Falls into this sometimes, such as when Rand offers him his Heat Smile and Shikuu doesn't comment on it at all.
* TheStoic: Anytime Shikuu engages Z-BLUE, he hardly raises his voice. [[spoiler:When Shikoku is injured and forced to retreat in one of the scenarios in ''Tengoku-hen'', Shikuu doesn't bat an eyelid. [[Anime/MobileSuitGundam00 Lyle Dylandy]] calls him out for expressing zero emotions at the fact that his woman was hurt, but Shikuu corrects him - Shikoku is his sister, not lover]]. Justified because the power of the Taciturn Giant Grab will break if Shikuu shows any emotion.
* ThemeNaming: Shikuu, Shiseiten and its only attack ''Shigokumon'' ("corpse prison door") all begin with the word "shi".
* TranquilFury: Due to the effects of his Sphere, Shikuu cannot show any emotion. After being thwarted by Crowe too many times in ''Tengoku-hen'', Shikuu lets off a whisper of "I don't like you" to Crowe.
* WeaponizedOffspring: [[spoiler:The crab-things his cronies use are the Shiseiten's offspring with armor on]].

!! Straus[[spoiler:/Elunaluna Burnstraus]] (Voiced by [[spoiler:Creator/WakanaYamazaki]])
* AnAxeToGrind: Straus carries an axe around for the intimidation factor.
* BlackKnight: Straus wears a black bull-themed armor and he works for Sidereal, the antagonists in ''Tengoku-hen''. [[spoiler:She explains the armour was Australis' idea, a symbol of majesty for his soldiers to rally behind. Since Sidereal has conquered the world, she doesn't need to wear the armor as frequent]].
* BloodKnight: [[spoiler:The Sphere of the Covetous Golden Ox reacts in response to "intense desire"; in Straus's case, it's her passion for fighting]].
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Soaring Golden Ox"
* PowerParasite: [[spoiler:The Covetous Golden Ox allows its user to steal strength from others; this explains why the Sphere of the Wounded Lion is a good countermeasure against it, as Straus winds up absorbing its pain. However, Elunaluna cannot use the Covetous Golden Ox if she loses her desire]].
* RammingAlwaysWorks: The strongest attack of Straus' battleship involves ramming into its foe after traveling through a portal.
* TragicKeepsake: [[spoiler:Elunaluna received her ship as a present from her father, the previous leader of Hyades. Like the Virgora, the battleship uses a dormant Sphere as its power source; it was awakened when Sidereal defeated Hyades and killed her father. Hyades' survivors aligned with Sidereal, but Elunaluna still wants revenge against the Angels]].
* SamusIsAGirl: [[spoiler:Straus is actually a [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bok5SVrrjqQ cowgirl]]]].
* SignificantAnagram: "Straus" is a rearrangement of the word "Taurus", the same-named constellation and Zodiac sign.
* SignificantName: Straus' battleship is named the ''Pleiades Taura''. Besides containing part of Taurus' name, the Pleiades is a star cluster located in the Taurus constellation.
* SpellMyNameWithAnS: [[spoiler:Is it "Elunaluna", "Elunaruna" or "Erunaruna"]]?
* VisualPun: [[spoiler:Without her armor, Elunaluna is a cowgirl]].
* WorthyOpponent: At least in Rand's eyes, Straus is this to him, claiming if they weren't enemies, he'd invite him out for drinks.

! The Four Angels

The BiggerBad behind all the events in the Z Universe. Tropes shared between The Four Angels are:
* AnthropomorphicPersonification: The Four Angels are based on the Japanese word ''kidoairaku'' (喜怒哀楽), representing the emotions of happiness, anger, sorrow and joy, respectively.
** Note that "joy" in the context of the ''Z'' saga is defined as "deriving enjoyment", whereas "happiness" is "the state of being happy". The difference between ''ki'' (喜) and ''raku'' (楽) are also confusing in RealLife, with arguments on the nuances of ''raku'' and entire books written regarding the concept.
* AssimilationPlot: The Four Angels were inhabitants of their Earth and the first in the universe to achieve ''shinka'' (evolution) by combining all life on the planet.
* EarlyBirdCameo: Tempti and Doctrine are first seen in the stinger of Jigoku-hen, talking about destroying the Blue Earth for the greater good.
* HolierThanThou: As the first individuals to reach ''shinka'', becoming higher dimensional entities, The Four Angels believe it's their duty to guide lower, unevolved species to reach their evolution as well.
** HumanAllAlong: That said, they're still human beings at the core, so when Lelouch attempts to place a Geass on Doctrine and Tempti [[HeroicSacrifice in exchange for his life]] (as it doesn't work at first), there's a moment shown that it ''may'' work.
* {{Hypocrite}}s: The Angels exiled Advent because they believe that as superior beings, they should be morally above lying towards one another, including murder. However, this is before noting they're inclined to commit genocide on "inferior" beings in order to prove a point.
* ManBehindTheMan: The Chrono organization was created by them in order to prevent humanity on other worlds from reaching ''shinka''. This explains why Chrono exists in multiple dimensions.

!!Doctrine of Anger (Voiced by Creator/UnshoIshizuka)
* BaldOfEvil: He works with Advent and attempts to steal the Spheres from Z-BLUE.
%%* HighClassGlass
* EldritchAbomination: The [[https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EzBDLEDWv6M Prodigium]] is born from the remains of the Supreme God Sol, which shattered 12,000 years ago, and along with the Black Sun, inherited some of the Sol's remaining power. Alongside "Helios" (the original form of Advent's Asclepius) and the "Black Sun", it's one of the keys needed to recreate the Sol, but the Prodigium itself is capable of generating enough of the Origin Law to destroy a galaxy, depending on the conditions. After losing to Z-BLUE in the Chaos Cosmos, Advent uses the Prodigium in the ceremony to recreate the Supreme God.
* YouAreWhatYouHate: Doctorin claims Z-BLUE are the Ba'al and declares all other living beings to be the same. However, as he himself is destroying life, thus weakening the power of existence, this also makes him part of the Ba'al.

!!Tempti of Joy (Voiced by Hitomi Owada)
* BitchInSheepsClothing: Tempti calls herself "Titi" and pretends to be a civilian girl who hangs out with Hibiki and tells him a sob story about being abused by her mother and then pretends to die horribly. Z-BLUE even holds a funeral for her. All just to mess with Hibiki. For fun.
* DroppedABridgeOnHer: Played with - when she still know as Titi, she was accidentally "killed" by [[LightNovel/FullMetalPanic Leonard Testarossa]] who randomly fire at [[Anime/MacrossFrontier Macross Quarter]], her death come out rather surprising (nevermind that this happaned while ThemeMusicPowerUp is still playing) but of course it's get heavily subverted later on.
* GenkiGirl: Describe to be one by Z-BLUE members as Titi.
* [[SheIsNotMyGirlfriend He Is Not My Boy Friend]]: Subverted, She keeps claiming or wanting to be Hibiki's girlfriend. Hibiki gently denied it.
* ItAmusedMe: Tempti infiltrated Z-BLUE because she found it "fun" or "enjoyable"
* PlayingBothSides: The Invaders and others are not the Ba'al. The Dimensional Generals have been fighting the wrong enemy due to false information provided by Tempti. The "real Ba'al" are The Four Angels who used the Dimensional Generals to fight ZEUTH and ZEXIS. This is so they can grab the Spheres without trouble by having them clash with each other.
* RoseHairedSweetie: She appears during tense situations to assist Hibiki, until TheReveal occurs and the trope is inverted.
* VillainousBreakdown: When Advent decide to use her and Doctrine as the component for Supreme God Z, she finally breakdowns crying and apologies for everything she did to him in the past and ask for mercy. It didn't work.

!!Sacrifai of Sorrow
* CaptainErsatz: Hey, [[VideoGame/SuperRobotWarsGaiden Cyfis]], is that you?
* ItsAllAboutMe: Though she seems benevolent, Sacrifi is as much of an egotistical ass as the rest of The Four Angels. Despite being the aspect of sorrow, she only cares and comprehends her ''own'' sorrow, and refuses to work with Z-BLUE since, while initially against the other Angels, Sacrifai still holds the belief they are inferior, particularly for rejecting her acts of "benevolence".
* TheReveal: Sacrifi was the one who created the titular "time prison" in ''Jigoku-hen'' to protect the Earth.

!!"Holy" Advent of Happiness/Saint Advent
* AGodAmI: His true goal is ascend and become ruler of a reborn universe.
* BigBad: Of ''Tengoku-hen''.
* {{Brainwashing}}: Being in close proximity to others, Advent can compel and convince others around him. This explains why his Chrono supporters believe he can do no wrong, as does Z-BLUE since ''Jigoku-hen''. Newer members in ''Tengoku-hen'' like Garrod and [[Anime/GargantiaOnTheVerdurousPlanet Ledo]] wonder why their allies can trust an obviously suspicious man; once Z-BLUE starts questioning Advent's motives is his FaceHeelTurn apparent.
* EvilAllAlong: That HeelFaceTurn he previously pulled in ''Jigoku-hen''? All a lie.
* EvilCounterpart: To [[Anime/RebuildOfEvangelion Kaworu Nagisa]]; on a meta-level, to [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsClassic Gilliam Yeager]] during his ''Hero Senki: Project Olympus'' stint as the BigBad.
* {{Foil}}: To Asakim - both scheme to manipulate the Sphere Reactors, and while Advent and the Asclepius are colored white and a KnightInShiningArmor, Asakim and the Shurouga are predominantly black and ObviouslyEvil; the Shurouga has clear avian imagery, the Ascelpus references snakes. Throughout the ''Z'' saga, Asakim hardly hides his evil nature and Advent begins as an ally to Z-BLUE, repeatedly saves the day, and pulls a HeroicSacrifice to get Hibiki to acquire the Sphere of the Quarreling Twins. Advent turns out to be the BigBad of the saga with all his earlier deeds a lie, but Asakim ultimately garners sympathy points despite his alignment and winds up being instrumental in Advent's defeat.
* GracefulLoser: Advent takes his defeat against Z-BLUE surprisingly well. After calling them damn bastards for doing this to him.
* MistreatmentInducedBetrayal: Advent was exiled by the other Angels in a previous cycle after the Supreme God destroyed itself; the Helios became a "gift of mercy" by Doctrine. When they needed the Helios back to revive the Supreme God, the Angels welcomed his return. Unfortunately for them, Advent plans on reviving the Supreme God with himself in control.
* INeedYouStronger: The reason he murdered Hibiki's family.
** To make it more detailed, he is the one that brainwashed Hibiki's mother to kill Hibiki. Due to motherly love she briefly broke free of the spell much to his surprise, She then killed herself (in front of Hibiki) because she was afraid to harm her child. This is what made Advent interested in Hibiki.
* NeverMyFault: He seems to think that Z-BLUE betrayed HIM despite the fact that he attacked them for asking him questions.
%%* ThanatosGambit
* YouHaveFailedMe: Delivered towards Doctrine and Tempti when he sacrifices them to the Supreme God Z.

!"Supreme God" Sol/Z

The absolute existence in the ''Super Robot Wars Z'' saga, surpassing the causality of all universes. The original Supreme God "Sol" was comprised of the Helios, Prodigium, Black Sun, the twelve Spheres and fragments that form the Black Knowledge; unfortunately, Advent didn't have the necessary components and had to use something else, calling this new entity "Z". The Supreme God controls the concept of existence (life) and non-existence (death), with the ability to use the Origin Law to level entire galaxies. It's impossible to measure it in terms of raw power, and cannot be harmed by those who have not achieved evolution. According to Advent, the Supreme God can overcome the [[EternalRecurrence once in a 12,000 year]] cycle of destruction of the universe, thus he seeks to create an entirely new one using the Z to his own whims.

After accepting Asakim's wish to "die", it is defeated by Z-BLUE, the consciousnesses of all life gathered in its super-singularity is released, and a super-dimensional restoration across dimensions is carried out.
* CaptainErsatz: A cosmic entity that can essentially bend, control and destroy the universe on a whim. Sounds awfully similar to the [[Franchise/CthulhuMythos Elders Gods and the Great Old Ones]].
** Also to the [[Franchise/MassEffect Reapers]], given the Supreme God's set cycle of destruction, akin to the former of wiping out galactic life every 50,000 years (and implied to have been done thousands of times).
* DrivenToSuicide: Tired of the endless cycle and enslavement to The Four Angels, the original Supreme God Sol shattered itself and tore its body apart during the last 12,000 year cycle.
* FinalBoss: For ''Tengoku-hen'', and by extension, the ''Z'' saga.
* HumanSacrifice: Since he can't recreate the original Supreme God Sol, due to missing four Spheres used by Z-BLUE, Advent uses four "Eternal Lives" (Doctrine, Tempti, Sacrifai and Asakim) as replacements, dubbing the new one "Z".
* LightIsNotGood: While it takes the appearance of a golden seraph, the Supreme God Z is the one intended to end the universe and the visions in its ultimate attack "are hardly pleasant.
* MeaningfulName: The InUniverse moniker of "Z" carries the meaning of "the one who watches over the death of the old world", making it a parallel to the concept of a universal life-cycle (Maha-Kalpa) and fate (Saṃsāra).
* MindRape: Similar to [[Characters/SuperRobotWarsAlpha Kaiser Ephes' "End of the Galaxy" attack]], the Supreme God Z bombards its victim with horrific visions of universal death and destruction, before halting time and finishing them off, leaving their remains to be assimilated by the deity.
* PhysicalGod: The strongest of all beings, surpassing the karma of the Z universe.
* ResetButton: The Supreme God resets the universe every 12,000 years. Advent plans on using the Z to reboot and recreate the universe to his liking.
* TimeAbyss: At the rate of 12,000 years per cycle, just how many times has the Supreme God successfully destroyed the universe and recreated it? Through dialogue by The Four Angels, it's implied this has been done for over 120 million years.
* WesternZodiac: The twelve spheres are based on them and are also associated with the angel that represents that star sign. Barbiel for Scorpio, Hamaliel for Virgo, Asmodel for Taurus, etc.
