Bosses

    Bowser
Who's going to stop me now? Mario? That plumber couldn't fix a pipe, let alone hunt me with the Ztar! BWAHAHAHA!!

The Koopa King himself, who this time has stolen the Grand Ztar to power up him and his army.

  • Badass Boast: Just before the battle with him, he declares he will swat Mario “like a Para-Goomba”.
  • Big Bad: As usual; he stole the Grand Ztar and is using it to attempt to conquer the Mushroom Kingdom.
  • Final Boss: As usual, he is the boss of World 8, the final world.
  • Tactical Suicide Boss: Unlike in the original game, he cannot be grabbed by the tail and thrown into the bombs; instead, Mario needs to wait until he is about to do a shell spin, then lure him into one of the bombs.
  • We Will Meet Again: When beaten, he says he will be back in another game.

    Goomba King
You made fun of us Goombas for long enough! It is time to prove once and for all that Goombas are not the “small fish”! I, the Goomba King, shall demonstrate just what Goombas are capable of!

The boss of World 1 and king of the Goombas.

  • Tactical Suicide Boss: The Goomba King charges at Mario; when he bumps into a wall, he falls down face-first, allowing Mario to ground-point him.
  • Warmup Boss: As the boss of World 1.

    Angry Sun
A recurring enemy in the Mario series and the boss of World 2.
  • Invincible Minor Minion: Subverted with the Angry Sun, which is encountered in World 2-3 and plays much like the Angry Sun in the original game, but goes on to become the boss of the world.
  • Kill It with Water: It is weak to water, being a sun — the way to beat it is to toss a bucket of water at it.
  • Suicide Attack: After the first two hits, it will rapidly shoot fire in all directions from its body and will keep doing so, shrinking in the process, until it runs out and promptly dies.
  • The Voiceless: Unlike every other boss, it lacks a blurb at the start of its boss battle.
  • Wake-Up Call Boss: Unlike the pitifully easy Goomba King, who has an obvious weak point, the Sun is significantly harder to defeat as its weakness, the bucket of water, may not be apparent at first, and its attacks are harder to dodge. The rest of the bosses are similarly challenging.

    Master Hand
Thou shalt not pass mine trial!

The boss of World 3, originating from the Super Smash Bros. series.

  • The Cameo: He is from the Super Smash Bros. series and is the boss of World 3. He also has some of his moves from the series.
  • Puzzle Boss: It is not immediately clear how to hit him; you cannot hit him yourself, but must climb the large Jenga-like towers and get him to slam down on the pins at the top of each.
  • Tactical Suicide Boss: Master Hand can be harmed with the pins only when he does his fist-slam attack.

    Bowser Jr
My dad gave me this cool clown car! He told me I could keep it, if I stop you!

Bowser's son and the boss of World 4.

  • Tactical Suicide Boss: Bowser Jr. throws Bob-ombs at Mario, which also happen to be the only way to hurt him.

    Shadow Mario
Hehehe... you want to move on to the next world? I have the key! But I'm not gifting it! You’ll have to catch me!

A shadow version of Mario and the boss of World 5.

  • Evil Twin: He is a dark version of Mario.
  • Expy: Of the similar boss, Dark Mario, from Super Mario 64: Last Impact. Like Dark Mario, he is a shadowy version of Mario and a Mirror Boss.
  • "Get Back Here!" Boss: Shadow Mario challenges Mario to catch him; you must catch him three times while running and long-jumping through a metro tunnel, making sure to land on the trains and not fall off.
  • Mirror Boss: He spends the fight doing long-jumps, just like Mario.

    Tyrant Tormentoso
I am the great Tyrant Tormentoso! Submit now or you will be zapped!

A monarch who rules the skies and the boss of World 6.

  • Card-Carrying Villain: He refers to himself as Tyrant Tormentoso.
  • Expy: He is a white recolor of King Kaliente. However, his fight is different in that Mario needs to shoot himself through a cannon at him, rather than hitting his watermelon back at him like with Kaliente.
  • Generic Doomsday Villain: Despite calling himself a tyrant, we never see him oppressing anyone or doing anything other than get in Mario’s way. His only lines are proclaiming himself the “great Tyrant Tormentoso” and demanding Mario submit.
  • Original Character: He is basically the only boss in the game who is not a pre-existing Mario character (though he is an Expy of King Kaliente).
  • Palette Swap: A white recolor of King Kaliente.

    World 7 Boss

Wario

Bowser has put up a big bounty for stopping you! Wahahaha! I'll catch you and then build Wario - Land with that money!

Mario's greedy rival and the boss of World 7.

  • Only in It for the Money: As the boss of World 7, he fights Mario because Bowser placed a huge bounty on him, and Wario, being his usual greedy self, wants to collect.
