Kalliope

A young student of the Guild of Levitatinnen, who learns under Master Cedara.

  • Attempted Rape: On the way to Nordrak. It doesn't exactly help her fear of everyone outside of the Guild.
  • Childhood Friends: With Prisca, who has been her room mate for seven years.
  • Fish out of Water: She has never left Ethara before and is particularly horrified to be confronted with men and Animalen.
  • Innocent Bigot: She was raised to hate all Animalen and Chimaeren, and to think that they are all evil because they possess no soul.
  • Naïve Newcomer: She's never left Ethara before and doesn't really understand how the outside world works.
  • So Beautiful, It's a Curse: Hinted at. She's not aware she's particularly pretty, but Master Cedara hints that that's the reason why everyone is staring at her and why two members of the crew try to rape her.
  • The Chosen One: There's hints she's this.

Kieron

A young slave on an outside world.

Prisca

A young student of the Guild, who learns under Master Harona.

  • Childhood Friends: With Kalliope, who has been her room mate for seven years.
  • Evil Feels Good: Sort of hinted at with how easily she starts to believe in Master Harona's ideology.
  • Evil Former Friend: To Kalliope, as Prisca joins the inquisition and starts to kill and torture everyone who opposes the Guild just as Kalliope starts to realize that the Guild has darker sides than she'd previously thought.

Erik Thorson

The prince of Nordrak.

  • Dark Secret: He's a Chimaera, though he doesn't really seem to be ashamed of it. It just seems like this to Innocent Bigot Kalliope
  • Love Interest: Towards Kalliope. He actually makes a Love Confession later too, but she asks him not to do it because sisters of the Guild are not allowed to fall in love. Though she later does kiss him, so...
  • Warrior Prince: He's the prince of Nordrak and a proud warrior.

Croy

An Animale thief who saves Kieron.

  • An Arm and a Leg: Loses a hand
  • Gentleman Thief: He's a proud thief, but he also saves Kieron just because it's the right thing to do and fullfills the quest because he gave his word.
  • I Gave My Word: The reason why he still wants to go steal the MacGuffin after freeing Kieron, who had served as a hostage.

Jago

An Animale who is the former owner of Kieron.

Shen

A young woman Kieron and Croy meet on their quest.

Master Cedara

A leading sister of the Guild, and Kalliope's master

Master Harona

A leading sister of the Guild, and Prisca's master.
