The Girls

Tropes that apply to all of them

  • Ambiguous Innocence: They're all very naive and childlike, but they display very morbid interests, such as wanting to eat whales or have dreams about killing one another.
  • Big Eater: They all have rather sizable appetites. In fact, eating seems to be the only thing any of them enjoy doing, since none of them have had a chance to develop real interests and hobbies. To wit, when asked what they would like for Christmas, all the clones say they want food.
  • Innocently Insensitive: They tend to say some rather callous things to each other and their teachers without actually realizing how mean or hurtful they are.
  • Literal-Minded: It can be hard to give them simple instructions because they'll follow it to the letter. If told to watch TV, they'll watch the blank screen for hours without realizing they were supposed to turn it on and watch a show.
  • You Are Number 6: The girls are numbered from One to Sixteen. Even when they decide that they need names they settle on First to Sixteenth.
  • Younger Than They Look: They all look like they're in the early stages of adolescence, but by the time the manga begins, none of them are even a year old.

     One

     Two

  • The Ditz: They might all be naive but all the girls agree that Two is the dumbest of them all.

     Three

     Four

     Five

     Six

     Seven

  • Only Sane Man: Is this amongst the clones, displaying the most intelligence out of them.
  • The Smart One: Has the most common sense of the clones.

     Eight

     Nine

  • Chuunibyou: After finding a light novel.
  • Dye Hard: Black instead of her sisters' light blue hair.

     Ten

  • Fashionista: Self-proclaimed.
  • Stripperific: Tends to wear skimpy clothes that make her look like a prostitute. This is due to her teacher sending her clothes shopping to a store based on her number without taking into account what kind of clothing the store actually sold.

     Eleven

  • Why Did It Have to Be Snakes??: Hates chestnuts after one fell on her head. To the point where she vomits after eating a desert with some in it.

     Twelve

     Thirteen

     Fourteen

     Fifteen

     Sixteen

  • Butt-Monkey: Tends to get bullied by the other clones, particularly Thirteen.
  • I Just Want to Be Loved: Her bad luck and tendency to get picked on or excluded by the other clones lead her to wanting to find someone who will treat her well. She spends one volume even trying to find someone to be her "big sister," but finds none of her fellow clones want anything to do with it.

Teachers

     Senshi
The girls' homeroom teacher and main caretaker.

  • A-Cup Angst: She's frequently ridiculed by the clones for having a flat chest, which usually causes Senshi to physically lash out at them.
  • Cloudcuckoolander's Minder: She's the minder to a whole class of Cloudcuckoolanders. While it's her job to teach them to better become individuals, she more often than not has to steer the clones to common sense because none of them have an ounce of it.
  • Older Than They Look: To the point that a change of clothes is all that needed for the girls to think shes a student.
  • Only Sane Man: As the teacher to a whole bunch of naive clones with tenuous grasps on reality, she's this by default.

     Azuma
The girls' common sense teacher.

  • The One Guy: The only recurring male character in the series.
  • Only Sane Man: He's a normal person teaching basic life and social lessons to a class of hopelessly naive, socially inept, and mentally wonky clones, so this is only natural. Unlike Senshi, he tends to stay in control of his emotions, playing this trope even more straight.

Acquaintances

     Other Clones
Another group of clones. They all have dark hair and are represented by Kanji instead of roman numerals. There are at least five of them.
  • Eyes Always Shut: With the exception of Go(5). To the point where the girls don't recognize them when they see them with their eyes open.
  • Foil: To the main clones. The main clones are generally unexpressive, while these girls are more cheerful (overly so once could say). The main clones can be prone to mean behavior, either by accident or on purpose, while these girls are a lot more friendly. The main clones do little more than eat or sleep in their free time, while these girls partake in a wide range of activities more typical of schoolchildren. That said, both sets of clones are terribly naive about the world and prone to off-kilter behavior because of it.
  • Perpetual Smiler: Unlike the main clones, who all generally wear blank expressions all the time, these clones almost never stop smiling, even when they're confused or upset.
