A soft-spoken girl who likes to draw. She's a witch with the power to alter memories, which was exploited by Organization XIII to manipulate Sora during the events of ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsChainOfMemories''.

She is Kairi's Nobody, born when Kairi's heart was freed from Sora's after he turned into a Heartless. Unlike the others, she appears to actually have feelings due to lacking memories of her previous life to base her reaction off of.
* AllPowerfulBystander: Even if she isn't quite this, Namine's powers could conceivably fix most of the problems in series. Too bad she has no real desire to use them.
* TheAtoner: After screwing up [[spoiler:Sora's memories under the orders of Organization XIII, she spends an entire year setting them back together.]]
* BecauseYouWereNiceToMe: Sora's party were the first people ''ever'' to be nice to her, even despite everything she'd done to them, which is why she spends the next year straight working on their behalf. It goes to the extent that, despite being at Marluxia's mercy, she openly defies him and refuses to hurt Sora anymore.
* BewareTheNiceOnes: She's overall a pretty demure person who, at worst, is a bit passive-aggressive. When the Riku Replica is about to kill Sora, she uses her powers to [[MindRape completely shatter his memories]] to protect Sora.
* BlondeBrunetteRedhead: The Blonde to Xion's Brunette and Kairi's Redhead.
* TheCameo: Appears for a moment in ''Dream Drop Distance'' in [[spoiler:Sora's dream version of The World That Never Was]]. Before Sora has a chance to thank her, as instructed to by Jiminy's Journal, her form changes into that of [[spoiler:Xion]], and she runs off.
* CharacterDevelopment: Starts off in ''Chain of Memories'' as extremely passive and did whatever she was told, but Sora's influence led to her gaining confidence in herself and ignoring orders to do what was right. In ''II'' she openly defies [=DiZ=]'s orders and facilitates Kairi's escape from Organization XIII's captivity, both at the risk of her own life.
%%* CuteWitch: Larxene even explicitly calls her as such.
* DamselInDistress: Twice; born into the role as a prisoner of Marluxia in ''Chain of Memories'', and then becomes a prisoner of [=DiZ=] once she stops obeying his orders in ''Kingdom Hearts II'''s prologue. She finally stops this behavior when she reaches The World That Never Was.
* DemotedToExtra: From ''Chain of Memories'' to ''Kingdom Hearts II'', along with Axel. However, considering how the entire plot of ''Chain of Memories'' revolved around her, this was unavoidable.
* DoesThisRemindYouOfAnything: In ''Chain of Memories''. She's a teenager who is being held as hostage by a bunch of adults, mostly male, [[FromBadToWorse but then we see]] that the SmurfettePrinciple Larxene is actually even dirtier than the males, as she has no sense of personal space at the poor little girl.
* {{Expy}}: A quiet, mysterious girl with incredible powers over memory and designed by Tetsuya Nomura... huh? You aren't talking about ''[[VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIII Ellone]]''?
* ExtremeDoormat: Through most of ''Chain of Memories'' and ''358/2 Days''. But definitely not in ''Kingdom Hearts II''.
* FakeMemories: What her powers revolve around.
* FlatCharacter: Much like Kairi, she starts off more well-rounded and then her characterization sadly deteriorates, although in this case it's not for being OutOfFocus but from {{Flanderization}}: being sad about hurting Sora (plus Roxas and Xion by extension) and wanting to make up for it gradually became the sum total of her personality.
* GirlInTheTower: In Chain of Memories.
* GirlyRun: Bonus points for HoldingHands with Kairi at the same time.
%%* HairOfGoldHeartOfGold
* HighHeelFaceTurn: Not that she was ever evil, though.
%%* TheIngenue
%%* InnocentBlueEyes
* {{Leitmotif}}: "Naminé".
* LimitedWardrobe: Although she's not the only character who play this trope in the games (as many Disney characters are also this), Namine is more noticeable for still wearing the very same sundress in Kingdom Hearts II. Inevitably as [[ShesAllGrownUp she gets taller]], even if it's not really played for {{Fanservice}}, the sundress no longer covers her knees and is now exposing [[ShesGotLegs her legs]].
* ManipulativeBitch: What Larxene calls her. Although this is [[RewritingReality technically true]], Larxene's position in the plot toward Naminé makes the call a case of HypocriticalHumor.
* MissExposition: Her main role post ''Chain of Memories'' and ''Kingdom Hearts II'', particularly in ''Coded''.
* MysteriousWaif: In ''Chain of Memories''.
* NeutralFemale: Despite racist remarks by [=DiZ=] on her and all the Nobodies, she never spoke up against him one bit. Compare this to Roxas and Riku, the former declaring that he hated him while the latter abandons him after revealing his selfish intentions. Toward the end of her tenure with him, however, she did get sick of this enough to defy him in order to help Roxas.
* NeverASelfMadeWoman: She works for or with Marluxia, Axel, Riku and [=DiZ=], but seldom takes action of her own volition, with a noteworthy exception being in [=KH2's=] prologue in which she defies [=DiZ=] in order to help Roxas chose to remerge with Sora rather than be forced into it.
* NiceGirl: She's even meek and soft-spoken to someone like [[{{Jerkass}} Larxene]]!
* RememberTheNewGuy: InUniverse, invoked by the Organization XIII in order to attempt to manipulate Sora in Castle Oblivion.
* RewritingReality: Uses drawing to manipulate memories.
* ShesGotLegs: In KH II.
* ShesAllGrownUp: In Kingdom Hearts II, she looks notably taller and more well-endowed. Her dress' skirt is [[DangerouslyShortSkirt shorter]], too.
* ShrinkingViolet: For the most part in ''Chain of Memories'', until she gains some confidence at the end.
** Also this in ''358/2 Days'', but grows out of it by ''Kingdom Hearts II''.
* SplitPersonalityMerge: With Kairi at the end of ''Kingdom Hearts II'', although she still seems to be able to communicate with Sora, considering Riku's comment in the ''Final Mix +'' that Sora can thank her after they beat Xemnas (which, at that point, was after said merge).
* StayInTheKitchen: Most of her role, whether enforced by those around her or not. However, like Kairi, she still manages to get out and help during the final world of ''Kingdom Hearts II''.
* SuspiciouslySimilarSubstitute: To Kairi in ''all'' senses in ''Chain of Memories'', but Sora doesn't catch on until she sets him straight about it.
* TextileWorkIsFeminine: Subverted in the tie-in manga. Namine sews up Axel's black coat out of gratitude towards him, but according to him did a poor job of it.
* ThemeNaming: Her part in the "girls related to Kairi" group is ''nami'' for wave.
* ThinkingUpPortals: Can manifest Corridors of Darkness. Notably, she can do so even after she has merged with Kairi.
* TookALevelInBadass: She gains a ''lot'' more confidence in ''Kingdom Hearts II'', evaded capture from the Organization, and [[spoiler:helped rescue Kairi. She and Kairi together even stood up to Saïx physically, and that's gotta count for something.]]
** Near the end of ''Chain of Memories'', she [[spoiler:stands up to Larxene and Marluxia, and manages to almost pull a one hit kill Riku Replica ''accidentally''. For some reason, this power is never mentioned again.]]
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: It is unclear whether she's this or a MasterOfIllusion, but Naminé, like [=DiZ=], can change her appearance with the power of darkness. She only uses this in order to change into the form of Kairi, however, so the extent of changes she can make is unknown, and she cannot hide her "light vs. darkness" scent.
* WomanInWhite: Constantly wears a white dress.
* YouHaveOutlivedYourUsefulness: At the end of Roxas' prologue in ''II'', [=DiZ=] outright says that with Sora completely restored, he has no further use for Naminé, and orders Riku to kill her. Of course, Riku is already disgusted with [=DiZ=] for using Sora in an effort to get revenge on Organization XIII, and instead lets her go.
* YoungerThanTheyLook: She's physically a teenager, but technically, by the time of ''II'', she's at most one year old.

[[folder:Hayner, Pence, and Olette]]

A trio of kids from Twilight Town. They are all close friends and like to hang out, put off homework, and eat sea-salt ice cream together. A virtual Hayner, Pence, and Olette serve as Roxas's friends in [=DiZ=]'s simulation of Twilight Town during the opening of ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII'' to keep Roxas occupied while [=DiZ=] manipulates him.
* AgentScully: Pence is always looking for a logical explanation to whatever he finds around town. Of course, after he meets Kairi, his ideals become more illogical.
* BigFun: Pence
* {{Expy}}:
** Hayner's [[HotBlooded personality]], antagonism with Seifer, and dress style are all quite similar to a Zell from ''VideoGame/FinalFantasyVIII''.
** Olette seems to be a physical expy of Selphie (who is herself a native to Destiny Islands) in terms of hair color, eye color, and hairstyle.
* HotBlooded: Hayner. He even attempted to take on Axel in a fist fight alongside Pence as backup. Luckily for him Axel was busy.
* TheLeader: Hayner is in charge of the group and dictates most of their activities, even though Pence and Olette are more sensible than him.
* LivingEmotionalCrutch: Sadly, they don't know it, but they are this for Roxas.
* NeutralFemale: Compared to the male Hayner and Pence who at least tried to attack Axel when kidnapping Kairi, Olette does not make any attempt to attack him one bit.
* NonActionGuy: Pence, not to say he doesn't try to help save Kairi when Axel kidnaps her.
* PlatonicLifePartners: Pence and Olette.
* ShipperOnDeck: Olette seems to be quite entranced with Kairi's story about her and Sora. She even calls it "romantic".
* ShoutOut: "Dog Street", the brand on Pence's clothes, is a reference to both ''VideoGame/TheBouncer'' (Creator/SquareEnix's debut UsefulNotes/PlayStation2 game) and the [[FunWithAcronyms Disk Original Group]] software team within Square in the mid-80's.
* TheSmartGuy: As shown toward the end of ''Kingdom Hearts II'', Pence is good with computers, being able to help Sora, Donald, and Goofy hack into [=DiZ=]'s computer at the Old Mansion to get the simulation beam up and running.
* ThoseTwoGuys: A bit, even to Sora in the middle stages of ''Kingdom Hearts II''.

An enigmatic figure who aids Riku and Naminé. Working against the Organization, he is willing to use rather questionable means to meet his goals. It turns out he's actually Ansem the Wise, the teacher of Xehanort, trying to atone for the atrocities done by Xehanort and Xemnas in his name, and for the aforementioned questionable actions he committed in the process.
* TheAtoner: Once he realizes the evil behind his actions. One of his last deeds before the Kingdom Hearts Encoder goes up is to apologise to Roxas for what he did.
* BadassBookworm: [[spoiler:Remember the library from Kingdom Hearts? That's this guy's.]]
* BandagedFace: As [=DiZ=].
* BeneathTheMask: Near the end of Roxas' prologue in ''II'', when he sees that Riku has [[spoiler: taken on the form of Xehanort's Heartless]], Ansem laughs at the sight. As he admits to Mickey later [[spoiler: in the World That Never Was]], he was actually deeply ashamed that Riku had become a victim of his lust for revenge and his laughter was a facade to hide it.
* BlackCloak: As of [[spoiler:''Birth By Sleep'''s secret ending, he is wearing an Organization black coat to protect himself from the darkness.]]
* BrainUploading: ''Dream Drop Distance'' reveals that [[spoiler:he uploaded a complete version of his mind to Sora's own mind along with his research data. The Data-Ansem is actually very personable and intelligent, and even jokes around with Riku, having not lost its memory like the real Ansem.]]
* CastingAShadow: Obtained dark powers through his festering hatred when he was [[spoiler: banished to the Realm of Nothingness, Unfortunately, like Riku, he lost them when his Kingdom Hearts Encoder exploded, leaving him trapped in the Realm of Darkness without the ability to open a dark portal.]]
* TheChessmaster: With Xemnas as his opponent. Most of his plotting occurs in ''Chain of Memories'' and ''II'', though at least one of his schemes has lasted to after ''Dream Drop Distance'', and has yet to be fully revealed.
* ClearMyName: An aspect of his motivation since the fall of Radiant Garden.
* CoolOldGuy: Once he takes off the bandages. [[spoiler:He's even cooler in ''Dream Drop Distance'', where he takes up joking with Riku about Sora, and reminds him of how much he's changed from his "Riku-Ansem" phase.]]
* CrazyPrepared: Knowing that he needed to make sure that his data would be safe, he [[spoiler:stored it within the one place he knew for a fact would be available and able to defend itself to the point where people wouldn't even know it would be there at all: Sora's heart. This extended to the point of him storing an entire data-copy of himself within said heart, along with his research data, so that when it was necessary, someone could retrieve it, even if he himself might not have survived to see that day.]]
** Even after [[spoiler:being blown into the Realm of Darkness and losing his memory, he still managed to have a black coat on hand to protect him.]]
* CulturedBadass: A remarkably polite individual, especially [[spoiler:once he realizes how much his actions have hurt people]], but if you endanger the worlds he will do everything in his power to make sure you don't succeed.
* DarkIsNotEvil: He's a [[{{Jerkass}} real jerk]] and a ManipulativeBastard, but, regardless of his use of Corridors of Darkness, he still refuses to submit to the darkness like Xehanort and Organization XIII's founding members and works in the interests of light, regardless of his personal reasons.
* DisneyDeath: The ending of [[spoiler:''Birth by Sleep'' shows that he survived his sacrifice and now waits for Sora to free him and Aqua from the Realm of Darkness]].
* DramaticUnmask: Near the end of ''Kingdom Hearts II''. That said, it's only dramatic to the viewers. The only other person present (King Mickey) already knew who he was.
* EasyAmnesia: He teetered on the edge of it for [[spoiler:his entire exile to the realm of darkness by his disciples, but kept focus thanks to hatred. When he ends up there again after KHII, he quickly forgets almost everything but Sora, presumably because he doesn't have such hatred anymore. All he's holding on to is his memory of Sora, since he put his research data, all he has left to help him with, inside of him.]]
* EccentricMentor: Not nearly as much since the end of ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsII'', but he still has a couple of quirks.
* EvilSoundsDeep: Subverted. He has the world's greatest villain's voice, but he's actually on the side of good.
* EmperorScientist: As [[spoiler:Ansem the Wise]].
* FantasticRacism: [=DiZ=] justifies his actions against the Organization XIII, no matter how cruel, by noting that they have no right to exist in the first place. Although numerous other characters (up to and including Sora himself) have this point of view in ''II'', reasoning that Nobodies possess no real emotions and thus aren't worthy of pity or mercy, [=DiZ=] is far more malicious in his hatred of Nobodies, and he learns how wrong he is to use the "Nobodies-Don't-Exist" justification as a general rule by the end of the game, when he removes his bandages.
* FunWithAcronyms: ''D''arkness ''i''n ''Z''ero. An in-universe example that he never explains personally to anyone else in universe, and is only mentioned in his Secret Reports.
%%* GentlemanAndAScholar
* GadgeteerGenius: If it's any indication, he built a machine that ''digitizes hearts.'' It did explode spectacularly, but points for trying.
* GoodIsNotNice: After being trapped in the Realm of Nothingness. He grows out of it as he enters his status as TheAtoner.
* HeelRealization: He finally realizes how horrid he has become by the time he [[spoiler:storms the Castle That Never Was with his Kingdom Hearts encoder]], though this began back during the beginning of the game when he saw just how far Riku was willing to go to save Sora.
* HeWhoFightsMonsters: In his quest to bring down the schemes of the Organization XIII, he became racist and as immoral, if not more so in some extents, than some of the members of the group itself, making him into a Type IV AntiHero. He seems to have figured this out by the time he [[spoiler:storms the Castle That Never Was]].
* ImpersonationParadox: After getting [[spoiler:his identity stolen by Xehanort, he uses the disguise of Ansem, Seeker of Darkness, in Chain of Memories as a disguise while he is in Castle Oblivion. Afterwards, Riku joins up with him in a Black Coat and Ansem, under the guise of [=DiZ=], ask who he is; when he pulls down the hood and introduces himself as Ansem, the real Ansem can only laugh about it and greets him with evident sarcasm which Riku fails to see.]]
* InTheHood: A standard feature, and he has not taken it off.
* {{Jerkass}}: Regarding Roxas, though he does apologize for it in the end, [[spoiler:shortly before his HeroicSacrifice.]]
* KickTheDog: His manipulation of Roxas, ordering the execution of Naminé, seeing Riku (and pretty much everyone else) as nothing but a tool for his own vengeance, and actively sabotaging King Mickey's attempts to contact Riku.
* LegacyCharacter: His real name is taken by so many people that he actually comes across an ImpersonationParadox by accident.
* ManInTheIronMask: Played with. [[spoiler:Xehanort]] stole his original name and banished him to the Realm of Nothingness. When he escaped, he decided to fulfill the "disguised face" part of the trope himself, and occasionally used magic to impersonate the guy impersonating him.
%%* MaskPower
* MeaningfulName: [=DiZ=] is a corruption of the first three letters of Disney.
** Also InUniverse. It stands for "Darkness in Zero".
* NonActionGuy: Has no martial abilities to speak of and is overwhelmed by a group of low-tier Nobodies.
* PointyEars: His ears have slight points to them. Given they weren't present in his depictions in the past, it's probably a side-effect of the darkness.
* ThePowerOfHate: His rage towards [[spoiler:his treacherous apprentices]] is what kept him sane in the Realm of Darkness and gave him the darkness based powers to escape it. This is what makes his CharacterDevelopment backfire on him [[spoiler:when he's thrown back into the Realm of Darkness. With no anger left he is not only stuck there but loses his memories as well.]]
* {{Revenge}}: Another implied motivation, especially with what he [[LotusEaterMachine does to]] [[DefectorFromDecadence Roxas]], who had nothing to do with the above. The power of Sora's and Riku's strong hearts cause him to think differently.
-->'''Mickey''': I can't help you with revenge.\\
'''Ansem''': I know. Riku's told me a thousand times.
* RoyalsWhoActuallyDoSomething: He personally [[spoiler: storms the Castle That Never Was in an effort to stop Xemnas himself]].
* RedemptionEarnsLife: As of [[spoiler:''Birth By Sleep'''s secret ending, he's revealed to have survived the explosion of the Kingdom Hearts encoder.]]
* ScienceHero: What he does to help the heroes is typically through the use of his inventions, and not in up front combat.
* ShutUpHannibal: The above quote is a response to Xemnas's motive rant.
* StealthMentor: To Riku.
* SupernaturalGoldEyes: Due to his use of darkness. [[spoiler:Given certain revelations about near-everyone else with them in this series, that's troubling.]]
* TeleportersAndTransporters: He is capable of using Corridors of Darkness (despite the corruptive influence on his heart, seeing as he has no known protection) and teleporting himself around his data simulations at will.
* ThinkingUpPortals: The mechanics of Corridors of Darkness revolve around this.
%%* TooManyBelts
* TookALevelInKindness:He's actually a lot nicer after he [[spoiler:takes off the bandages on his head, and even acknowledges that anything can grow a heart in ''3D'', apologizing to Roxas some time before.]]
* TrademarkFavoriteFood: Sea-salt ice cream.
* TrappedInAnotherWorld: The Organization XIII thrust him [[spoiler:into the Realm of Nothingness early in their scheming. He managed to escape due to finding out how to make Corridors of Darkness, and kept his memory due to his pure hatred. Later, as of the end of ''Kingdom Hearts II'', he was trapped in the Realm of Darkness, and lost most of his memory in the process of staying there due to not having the rage he once did to keep it together. He is currently on the Dark Meridian, presumably still with Aqua, who is also trapped.]]
* VillainProtagonist: [=DiZ=] in ''KHII'', ''Chain of Memories'', and ''358/2 Days'' cannot truly be called a hero or even truly an AntiHero despite the fact he is technically allied with the main protagonists against Xehanort and the Organization. [=DiZ=]'s reasons for wanting to thwart the Organization's scheme and destroy its members is initially not so much to protect the worlds as much as to exact revenge on Xehanort and his other former apprentices. [=DiZ=] himself repeatedly uses and glorifies the power of hate and darkness, only differentiating himself from Xehanort by his refusal to succumb to darkness and ostensible alignment with the heroes' goals, and he is perfectly willing to ruthlessly destroy and manipulate innocent lives, especially Nobodies like Roxas, to get what he wants. This characterization shifts into that of a ClassicalAntiHero once he realizes his mistakes.
* VoluntaryShapeshifting: He can change his appearance with the power of [[CastingAShadow darkness]].

[[folder:Master Eraqus]]
[[caption-width-right:197:"Why do all my attempts to reach you fail? If you don't have it in your heart to obey... then you'll have to share Ventus' fate."]]
->''"Fear leads to obsession with power, and obsession beckons the darkness."''
-->Voiced by: Creator/MakioInoue (Japanese), Creator/MarkHamill (English)
-->'''Appearances''': ''[[VideoGame/KingdomHeartsBirthBySleep Birth by Sleep]]'' | ''[[VideoGame/KingdomHeartsIII III]]''

One of the few remaining Keyblade Masters in ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsBirthBySleep'', he lives in the Land of Departure as the mentor of Terra, Aqua, and Ventus. Eraqus is a kind and fatherly man, but he vehemently opposes the use of darkness and refuses to accept the idea that it may have a proper place in the world. This places him at odds with Master Xehanort, as they trained together but Xehanort developed some rather different ideas about darkness.

* AllYourPowersCombined: His armor makes use of his students' elements, and changes combat styles depending on who you're fighting it with. Considering the armor's data is based on his fighting style, it's easy to infer that Eraqus himself has the same abilities.
* AlternateCompanyEquivalent: To Yen Sid. [[MeaningfulName Look at his name]].
* BlackAndWhiteMorality: As said by [[UnreliableNarrator Master Xehanort]], he only thinks in absolutes: in his mind, LightIsGood and DarkIsEvil, no exceptions. Granted, Xehanort in any incarnation isn't the best in terms of reliability on that subject, but his behavior, such as failing Terra in the Mark of Mastery Exam for having any darkness in his fighting style, even by accident, seems to indicate this is true.
* BlowYouAway: One of his attacks as a BonusBoss is a massive tornado.
* BossRemix: The Armor of the Master battle is backed by a more dramatic version of the Land of Departure battle theme.
* BonusBoss: His armor makes a nasty one in ''Final Mix''.
* CainAndAbel: Master Xehanort was like a brother to him growing up. [[spoiler: Guess which one Eraqus ends up being.]]
* CoolKey[[CoolSword blade]]: Master's Defender, which looks like an "[[BroughtToYouByTheLetterS E]]" toward the teeth (likely for "Enix").
* DisneyDeath: Possibly. [[spoiler:Blank Points hints that he may have escaped death by seeking refuge in Terra's heart. [[SequelHook Terra only smirks]].]]
* DontMakeMeDestroyYou: When he [[spoiler:tries to kill Ventus only for Terra to intervene, he orders Terra to get out of his way, and when Terra refuses]]:

* DyingMomentOfAwesome: [[spoiler:Finally averts GenreBlindness and willfully vanishes into Terra, preemptively giving him Eraqus's LightEmUp Heart to later counter Master Xehanort's CastingAShadow one.]]
* EverythingsBetterWithSamurai: Way moreso than Terra. His armor, which appears in ''BBS Final Mix'', has a very prominent samurai motif.
* FaceHeelTurn: Not quite, though you do have to fight him as [[spoiler:Terra. Instead, it's implied that he's become so absorbed in his Light-based philosophy and so torn between his emotional connections to Xehanort, Ventus and Terra and the situation at hand that he falls into Darkness by the time Terra battles him.]]
* FailureIsTheOnlyOption: [[spoiler:Had Eraqus ''succeeded'' in killing Ven, the proto-χ-blade wouldn't have been forged... which, given the [[FlawedPrototype "proto" prefix]] and that Xehanort is working on the real thing in the present day, [[SenselessSacrifice would have amounted to nothing]].]]

* GoodScarsEvilScars: Has two scars across his face, said scars [[spoiler: having been inflicted by Xehanort]].

* LightEmUp: Almost of his attacks are of the light element.
* LightIsGood: A vehement believer in this.
* LightIsNotGood: His belief that straying from the light in any capacity is evil is what causes him to [[spoiler:attack Ventus and Terra. Eraqus' dialogue implies that his fanaticism towards light, ironically, made his heart susceptible to darkness.]]
* HorribleJudgeOfCharacter: It's implied that the one that truly has the distorted view is Master Xehanort, but that Eraqus himself also has an equally distorted view for trusting him; even after Xehanort attacked and scarred him when Eraqus pointed out the severe moral issues in his plans, Eraqus still forgave and trusted him after several years of avoiding each other. Then, during the Mark of Mastery exam, when Xehanort sabotages the balls of light, he dosen't for a second suspect that it was him, despite the fact [[WhatAnIdiot he was sitting right next to him]].
* IDidWhatIHadToDo: Which was try to [[spoiler:kill Ven to save the universe.]]
* ItsAllMyFault: He blames himself for [[spoiler:not seeing Terra's fall into the darkness.]]
* KnightTemplar: He hates darkness absolutely and is willing to do whatever it takes to keep darkness from spreading, even if he must [[spoiler:''murder'' Ventus to prevent Master Xehanort from taking the χ-Blade and destroying the World again.]] Master Xehanort claims Eraqus is "blinded by light," and despite being the BigBad, there's some truth to that claim. Considering all other Keyblade Masters acknowledge darkness is a necessary force to keep the universe in balance, Eraqus comes off as a fanatic.
* ManlyTears: Before [[spoiler:his death.]]
* MasterSwordsman: He ''is'' a Keyblade Master, and not a retired one at that.
* TheMentor: Ironic, considering that he is [[Franchise/StarWars Luke Skywalker]], and filled the same role in the ''Literature/JediAcademyTrilogy''....and unfortunately, also in ''Film/TheForceAwakens'', as far as Luke's luck with [[spoiler: apprentices falling to the dark side, whose actions ultimately cause the end of everything their respective masters had built.]]
* MentorOccupationalHazard: And, for the most part, it's pretty much his fault, since he [[spoiler:pushed Terra's BerserkButton without explaining himself.]]
* MercyKill: In hindsight, if he'd [[spoiler:killed Ven, it certainly would've been this.]]
* MyGodWhatHaveIDone: After he [[spoiler:fights Terra]], he realizes just how far his KnightTemplar tendencies made him go.
* NoCelebritiesWereHarmed: His appearance is quite likely based on ''Franchise/FinalFantasy'' creator Hironobu Sakaguchi.
* OlderThanHeLooks: He is assumed to be around the same age as both Yen Sid and Xehanort.
* ParentalSubstitute: The reports state that he loves Terra, Ven, and Aqua like his own children; Terra even outright calls him his father.
* PlayingWithFire: Notably his only magical attack not to be light elemental is fire.
* ProperlyParanoid: Xehanort certainly reinforces his negative views about darkness.
* ReasonableAuthorityFigure: Subverted; he [[spoiler:turns out to be more of a KnightTemplar.]]
* ReverseShrapnel: One of his most powerful attacks is surrounding himself with magical light keyblades which spin around him and shoot lasers.
* ScrewDestiny: In the E3 2015 trailer, Young Eraqus flat says that there's nothing saying he can't change the future if he wants to, in response to Young Xehanort's comments concerning how light is destined to expire and darkness prevail. An amused Xehanort says he hopes he's right about it.
* ShieldBash: As his Armor Data, he's fond of using the light shield on his back to trap his target.
* ShootTheDog: He tries to do this when he learns that Xehanort needs [[spoiler:Ven to create the χ-blade.]] Terra catches him in the act and is ''not'' happy.
* SiblingRivalry: It is mentioned in the Xehanort reports that Master Xehanort and Eraqus viewed each other as brothers, which goes a long way towards explaining why it takes so long for anyone to suspect Xehanort is up to no good. Still, it's also mentioned that Xehanort began turning his intellect down darker paths once their master chose Eraqus as his successor instead of Xehanort...
* SmartPeoplePlayChess: His cameo appearance in the ''VideoGame/KingdomHeartsIII'' trailer has his younger self playing a chess-like game with Xehanort. From the looks of it, he's losing, but chess ''is'' one of those games where [[BackFromTheBrink the number of pieces remaining doesn't always determine the outcome.]]
* StormOfBlades: One of his more brutal desperation attacks is to shoot out a bunch of [[LightEmUp light]] magic Keyblades.
* TakeUpMySword: To Aqua. He [[spoiler:gives the order before she leaves, but she follows it and turns the Land of Departure into Castle Oblivion posthumously using his Keyblade.]]
* UnwittingInstigatorOfDoom: His [[BlackAndWhiteMorality extremist]] [[KnightTemplar views]] of LightIsGood and DarkIsEvil caused him to reject Terra as a master, ask Aqua to spy on him out of concern that Terra might become evil from the darkness, which in turn caused Terra to lose trust in him and trust Master Xehanort more, which made it all the easier for Xehanort to manipulate all the events and suceed with his GrandTheftMe of Terra. Very probably a part of Xehanort's schemes since the beginning, as he's the one who convinced Eraqus that Terra wasn't ready to be a master in a letter addressed to him.
* WellIntentionedExtremist: He's a good man, but is firmly convinced that LightIsGood and DarkIsEvil no matter what, to the extent that he actually [[spoiler: tries to murder Terra and Ven]].
* WhatIsOneMansLifeInComparison: Kill [[spoiler:Ven]] to prevent the χ-blade from being forged, or risk the destruction of the universe? It's not a pleasant choice.
* WouldHurtAChild: He'll hate it, though.
* YouAreNotReady: What he says to [[AntiHero Terra]], due to his use of [[CastingAShadow darkness]].

Five powerful and mysterious Keyblade Masters from the time of the Keyblade War, each founding a Union to collect Lux.
* AnimalMotifs: Snakes for Anguis, foxes for Vulpes, unicorns for Unicornis, bears for Ursus, and leopards for Leopardos.
* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: The Foretellers aren't just Keyblade Masters, they're ''the'' Keyblade Masters. The originals. * BigBadFriend: They all know that one of their number is a traitor.
* BigDamnHeroes: The Foreteller of the Union the player chooses first appears to save the player from a Darkside.
* BigGood: So far, Ava is shaping up to be this as she is taking matters into her own hands to make ''something'' salvageable out of the whole war - all without the other Foretellers' knowledge.
* TheChessmaster: Ava, [[spoiler:recognizing the coming Keyblade War and taking steps to preserve Keyblade wielders with strong hearts against the destruction it will bring, all without the knowledge of the other four Foretellers.]]
* CoolMask: Each Foreteller wears one themed after their Union's mascot animal.
* CurbStompBattle: [[spoiler:Aced ''whales'' on the X protagonist at the fountain square. He only stops when they collapse from exhaustion and Ira shows up.]]
* DividedWeFall: One of them is a traitor, and has stolen a page from the Book of Prophecies. They all know ''someone'' is a traitor, but not who, sowing distrust through their ranks.

* FinalBoss: [[spoiler: The final battle of Kingdom Hearts X is against four of them, one after another, as The Keyblade War rages. TheUnfought Foreteller is the one who leads your union.]]
* FlingALightIntoTheFuture: The Foretellers' goal in creating the Unions and recruiting Keyblade wielders is to attempt to stave off or avert the prophecy that dark will prevail and light expire.
** More immediately, Ava is gathering Keyblade wielders with strong hearts and no strong attachments to the Unions in order to prepare for [[spoiler:the Keyblade War--not to fight, but to send them away so that they can survive and rebuild]].
* InTheHood: Each Foreteller wears a hooded, embroidered cloak.
* {{Jerkass}}: Out of all the Foretellers, Aced is the most outwardly unpleasant. Aggressive, dismissive of everyone around him, outright hostile to the player, and actively picks fights with his fellow Foretellers, you'd be pressed to think that ''he's'' the traitor. But in truth, it's his obsession to find the traitor that makes him so dickish.
* MasterOfIllusion: [[spoiler:Ava, and she's rather fond of using her powers for secret tests.]]
* NiceGirl: In contrast to the others, Ava isn't concerned with the outcome of the Keyblade War, or even so much as finding the traitor. All she wants is to keep the world, and its inhabitants, safe. She even establishes her own little micro-organization that has the sole purpose of avoiding the war and trying to preserve whatever they can if/when things get apocalyptic. As evidenced by her actions and interactions, Ava is downright a ''sweetheart''.
* NoNameGiven: They're known simply as the Foretellers. Later on, though, the Vulpes Foreteller is revealed to be named Ava. The other Foretellers later had their names revealed via Twitter.
* SecretTestOfCharacter: Ava [[spoiler:''challenges the player to battle'' when she gets the notion that they think she might be hiding something]]. Of course, it turns out to only be a test, and she doesn't really think [[spoiler:the player is accusing her]].
** [[spoiler:She later disguises herself as ''the player's Foreteller'' (or as Ira if the player is in Vulpes) and confronts the player as they snoop around the Foretellers' tower, claiming responsibility for Ephemer's disappearance and saying he was a traitor. This incites the player to challenge the Foreteller to battle to defend their friend, thereby proving to Ava the strength of their heart.]]
* SevenDeadlySins: The theme of the Foretellers' names--Invi of Anguis (invidia/envy), Gula of Leopardos (gulam/gluttony), Ira of Unicornis (wrath), Aced of Ursus (acedia/sloth), and Ava of Vulpes (avarice/greed).
* ShoutOut: Their AnimalMotif is mostly a reference to the ''Ancrene Wisse''. Gula is an exception, being a leopard rather than a sow (a female pig), and the other two, scorpion of lust and lion of pride, are unaccounted for and presumably apply to Luxu (also an exception - his motif is a goat) and the Master of Masters respectively.
* WhatTheHellHero:
** Aced calls Ira a fool for revealing the existence of a traitor to the entire group.
** Ira gets to return the favor when Aced [[spoiler:beats down on the X protagonist]]. Aced is a Keyblade Master, after all, and has no business [[spoiler:raising his weapon against another Keyblade wielder]].
