    Archibald "Archie" LeBrock

The main character of the series, Detective-Inspector LeBrock solves crimes with his partner Ratzi to try and keep the peace within Grandville. His methods are usually brutal.

  • Anti-Hero: He's the main protagonist of the series, but his methods of catching criminals is sketchy at best, and he rarely ever takes in the villains alive.
  • Badass in a Nice Suit: LeBrock is always sharply dressed, even while he's busy killing dozens of criminals.
  • I Let Gwen Stacy Die: He sees Sarah's death as one of his biggest failures in his career, and her death is what haunted him for most of Mon Amour and why he became so overprotective of Billie.
  • Judge, Jury, and Executioner: LeBrock really isn't far off from someone like Jack Bauer or even Judge Dredd. Even if the villains he catches reveals why they committed the crimes they committed, he'll probably kill them anyway just for the hell of it. Just ask the Archbishop.
  • Lightning Bruiser: LeBrock can be surprisingly swift when he needs to be. And given that he's a badger, he's also built like a brick house and can critically wound (or even kill) someone with one punch to the head or throat.
  • Nice Job Breaking It, Hero:
    • In Mon Amour, LeBrock kills Madam Riverhorse after she pulls a gun on him. Because of her death, the Koenig Gang was able to take over the brothel, thus making Billie's job that much more difficult.
    • In Nöel, LeBrock kills four random gangsters who show up at AndrĂ©'s apartment to collect money from him. One of said gangsters was Gaius Koenig, the brother of ruthless mob boss Tiberius Koenig. It isn't until after Gaius' death that Tiberius targets LeBrock and his loved ones, and succeeds in killing LeBrock's unborn child and nearly LeBrock himself.
  • Not So Stoic: LeBrock's emotions are limited, but he can get pissed off if you push his buttons. He's also visibly traumatized when Sarah is murdered in front of him, and he discovers that Tiberius killed his and Billie's unborn child.
  • Pay Evil unto Evil: His defining character trait. LeBrock doesn't care who you are or what you've done. If you've committed a crime, he is going to threaten to kill you at best if you commit another crime, or he'll brutally torture you, and then kill you at worse.
  • Roaring Rampage of Revenge: Done twice, fittingly in the first and last volumes.
    • In Volume 1, after Sarah is murdered, LeBrock goes after the Knights of the Lion all by himself, massacring all of them with little difficulty—both to avenge Sarah and to stop their terrorist attack.
    • In the final volume, he does it again in a similar fashion with Koenig gang, massacring dozens of them by himself shortly after finding out that Tiberius kidnapped and abused Billie to the point of having a miscarriage.
  • Shower of Angst: Takes one early on in Mon Amour, still blaming himself for Sarah's death.
  • Sociopathic Hero: Downplayed. Despite being very stoic, LeBrock does care about his family, Billie, and his partner Ratzi, and he tries to save any innocents he can. But when it comes to criminals, LeBrock will nonchalantly slaughter them no matter who they are or what they've done.

    Roderick Ratzi

LeBrock's loyal partner, Ratzi is a Detective who assists him in solving crimes around Britain and France.

  • *Click* Hello: Ratzi is fond of sneaking up on villains and greeting them by putting the barrel of his cane gun up to their heads.
  • Et Tu, Brute?: In Force Majeure, LeBrock and Pongo are both shocked that Ratzi tried to apprehend (and even shoot) LeBrock after he was framed for the murder of Stanley Cray. He just tells Pongo that he's ambitious and looking towards getting a promotion. It turns out later that this was just an act.
  • Explosive Breeder: He has at least twenty-six children.
  • High-Class Glass: It's rare to see Ratzi when he isn't wearing a monocle.
  • Put on a Bus: Ratzi is absent for most of Nöel, choosing to spend time with his family during the Christmas season. He comes back though towards the end, and becomes LeBrock's partner again for the final volume after Chance temporarily replaced him.
  • Rich Boredom: Ratzi comes from a wealthy family or aristocrats. He works for the Scotland Yard simply because he got bored of his rich lifestyle and wants to help the community.
  • Undying Loyalty: Ratzi is fully aware of LeBrock's "methods" when it comes to the criminals he apprehends. He doesn't care, and still follows LeBrock no matter what he does.
  • You Dirty Rat!: Inverted. Ratzi is one of the few rat characters in the story, and he's also one of the nicest and most heroic ones.

    Billie
https://static.tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pub/images/billie_4.png

A prostitute who works at Madam Riverhorse's establishment. She later becomes LeBrock's Love Interest and assist him during his various cases.

  • Action Girl: Billie isn't afraid of putting herself in perilous situations to help LeBrock and Ratzi, and she knows how to fend off attackers and can handle herself in gunfights when she needs to.
  • Damsel in Distress: Downplayed. There are only three notable instances when Billie gets kidnapped: in Force Majeure (after she was greatly outnumbered by her foes), in Nöel (after she was hypnotized, along with several others), and in Mon Amour (because Edward Mastock crept into her apartment and put a knife at her throat before she noticed). Every other time Billie is in a dangerous situation, she manages to defend herself easily.
  • Dark and Troubled Past: Her parents were killed by Mastock when she was five, and she spent most of her time as a child or teenager living on the streets or within a traveling circus, eventually becoming a prostitute when she became an adult.
  • Hooker with a Heart of Gold: She's a prostitute who isn't ashamed of her profession, and she gradually becomes a kinder person as the comic progresses and falls in love with LeBrock.
  • Perpetual Frowner: She rarely smiles in the comic—at least not until she starts warming up to LeBrock. Even he is surprised to see Billie's cynicism melting away when Billie is absolutely giddy during a visit to a wax museum.
  • Pregnant Badass: Despite being a few months pregnant in Force Majeure, she's still capable of taking out several goons in the Koenig gang by herself using nothing but a handgun and her quick thinking.
  • Suspiciously Similar Substitute: Enforced. Billie was intentionally designed to look like Sarah. It's because of this that LeBrock takes a fancy to her in the first place, hoping she doesn't end up sharing the same fate Sarah got.
