* KickTheDog: After listening to Toby's "sad tale" about his missing sock, Kurohebi helps him find it (it was hanging around his neck the whole time) and appears to move forward to help his beaten opponent up...and then he grabs the sock and tears it up right in front of him, sickening everyone in the stadium.

Even worse, they only show up in one panel after heeding Ichiya's call to arms across Fiore... only to never be seen throughout the entire Alvarez Empire arc until they show up again to provide their magic power for Lucy's Fairy Sphere to trap Acnologia in the finale.

* ArchEnemy: To Fairy Tail, whose rivalry with Phantom Lord comes to a head when the latter destroys their guildhall at the beginning of the Phantom Lord arc.

* ArcVillain: He's the driving antagonist of the Phantom Lord arc, where he's hired by Jude Heartfilia to bring Lucy home unharmed to help his FamilyBusiness, but uses it as his excuse to eliminate Fairy Tail in an all-out war.

** In the anime adaptation of the Grand Magic Games arc, she rescues Lucy from an ambush during the final battle before slinking back into the shadows. Since the Ryuzetsu Land chapter [[AdaptationExplanationExtrication never made it into the TV anime]], instead getting a separate OVA adaptation, this is what convinces Lucy that Flare can be trusted.
