Darwin IV Flora and Fauna

    Arrowtongue

    Bladderhorn

    Daggerwrist

    Emperor Sea Strider
The largest creature on Darwin IV. The Sea Striders make their way up and down the Amoebic Sea, feeding on the gelatinous mass with each step, while their children fly around them.
  • Kaiju: They can grow as tall as 189 meters (620 feet).

    Eosapien

    Follow-Wing
The Hyenas of Darwin IV. Follow-Wings are kite shaped flying creatures that get their name from their habit of following Skewers around and picking bits of flesh off of the larger predators kills after they've finished with them, often picking the carcass clean before it reaches the ground. They are one of the few animals on Darwin IV to have hinged jaws, which they use to pick apart carcasses.

    Groveback

    Rimerunner
Native to the Rime Tundra of Darwin IV's Arctic Circle, the Rimerunner is the fastest animal on the planet. When running, the Rimerunner deploys an umbrella like structure which contains all its sensory organs, including a rudimentary eye.

    Skewer
The apex predator of Darwin IV. Skewers will often hunt in groups of two, swooping in from the sky and impaling their prey on their powerful proboscises, draining the creature of its fluids before dropping it to be picked apart by scavengers.
  • Beak Attack: They're armed with a hollow lance for a mouth, which is as strong as titanium and has a razor sharp radula on the inside. Their primary method of hunting is to swoop down, impale their prey and fly straight back up to drain them of their fluids. Hunting partners will toss their prey back and forth in mid-air to completely drain them.
  • Bizarre Alien Locomotion: They don't actually flap their wings, but instead have four pods that combust methane gas to propel them forward.
  • Deus ex Machina: Barlowe himself described them as such, appearing out of nowhere, attacking their prey and disappearing as suddenly as they appeared.
  • Giant Flyer: They have a wingspan of 50 feet, even larger than Earth's largest known flyer, the Quetzelcoatlus.
