* DidntSeeThatComing: Strictly speaking, it should be impossible for this to happen to Death, since he has both the ability to see into the future and a perfect memory (such that he often talks of what might happen as "remembering it like it was tomorrow"). However, there are times when he's been taken off guard by something, such as in ''Literature/WyrdSisters'' when he took on the role of [[AsHimself himself]] in a play, only to learn that the audience can actually see him ''as he is'', since they were ''expecting'' to see Death (albeit unaware he's the genuine article), therefore the WeirdnessCensor wasn't in effect (leaving poor Death with stage fright for the first time in his existence). It's possible that Death started to subconsciously selectively ignore parts of the future so that his existence doesn't become maddenly tedious (even by his standards), or that even Death is not immune to the fifth element of Surprise.

In fact, he can be quite readily compared to a sanitation worker of sorts. In the same way a sanitation worker doesn't create the garbage he shows up to collect, people die on their own, and Death's role is to usher them into the next world; he's not evil by nature, he's just fulfilling his designated role.
