The main character of Big Fish & Begonia, Chun is a magical-powered being that lived in a mystical realm. During her coming of age ceremony, she is transported to the human realm for seven days to experience it in the form of a red dolphin. She encounters a human boy who saves her life when she gets tangled during a storm, the boy drowns while freeing her. Chun makes a bargain with a soul keeper to return the boy's soul back to the human world, but her actions have dire consequences for her people and homeland.

  • Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: Chun sports a bobcut dark hair style and is aloof, especially towards Qiu.
  • Anti Heroine: Based on what Chun's action cause to her homeland and how she treats Qiu, it's easy for some viewers to see her this way.
  • Defrosting Ice Queen: She's somewhat cold towards Qiu and is only focused on her journey to restoring Kun's soul back to the human world. Not to mention how coldly she rejects Qiu right before his sacrifice for her. Her affection towards her grandfather and love for Kun make her look like a Jerk with a Heart of Gold.
  • It's All My Fault: Combined with My God, What Have I Done?,she takes responsibility for the chaos that her actions have brought upon her homeland and tries to make things right by sacrificing herself.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: She sacrifices herself and her powers to save the people of her homeland when chaos ensues from her actions.
  • Love at First Sight: Chun is immediately smitten with Kun when she first sees him, and after he saves her life she falls in love with him.
  • Meaningful Name: "Chun" means "Begonia" in Chinese, as in a traditional flower.
  • My God, What Have I Done?: all she wanted was to give Kun his old life back since he died saving her, and she feels guilty about having cost him his life. After witnessing the chaos her actions have brought about her homeland and being called out by the elders, she realizes that she needs to pay for what she has done.
  • Naked on Revival: Is completely nude on her resurrection in the human world with Kun.
  • Sugar-and-Ice Personality: She acts cool, collected and aloof, but she's still a good-natured person at heart.

Kun saved Chun during a storm but at the cost of his own life as he drowns while saving her. He is very kind as he is shown to save Chun without hesitation when she got caught in a net. He also cares very deeply for those he knows such as his sister. His soul comes back in the shape of a dolphin when he dies.

  • Flat Character: We don't know anything much about him throughout the movie with him having little dialogue.
  • Friend to All Living Things: His second introduction has him interacting with fishes and dolphins in the ocean. He looks after his younger sister. Also he helps free Chun from a fisherman's net.
  • Heroic Sacrifice: Kun didn't hesitate to free Chun during a storm and although he didn't intend to die the fact that he selflessly risked his life to help Chun shows what a big heart he has.
  • Implied Love Interest: He becomes this to Chun when she first sees him. She then falls in love with him after he saves her life and she's determined to bring him back to life no matter what.
  • Nice Guy: Heroic, brave, fun-loving, kind, selfless, and down-to-earth.
  • Pretty Boy: Is definitely a handsome human boy.
  • Walking Shirtless Scene: Most of the time whenever we see Kun in his human form he has chinese open white vest or a collar around his neck, by the end of the movie he is naked upon revival next to Chun.
  • Tritagonist: He is introduced as a kind-hearted human that looks after his sister and likes to interact with sea animals such as dolphins. He first meeting with Chun leads him to save her life when she gets caught in a net during a storm,he drowns in the process of saving her. Afterwards the film focuses on his growing relationship with Chun after she decides to look after his soul in order for him to return to the human world.

Voiced by: Johnny Yong Bosch (English), Shoya Chiba (Japanese), Alejandro Graue (Latin American Spanish)

  • Deuteragonist: He is Chun's childhood friend and secretly harbors romantic feelings for her. He is first introduced as a fun-loving happy-go-lucky kind of guy but over the story of the movie he goes through some serious character development. Qiu realizes that even if Chun will never love him the way he does it doesn't stop him from helping her and making some tough sacrifices in order to make her happy even if it costs him his own life.
