* AuthorityEqualsAsskicking: He's a career soldier and a Master Assassin. [[spoiler:And he gives Arno a beast of a fight]].

* DeconstructedCharacterArchetype: Arno is a clear deconstruction of not only Ezio, but also Connor, Edward and Shay due to one fact: Arno ''isn't'' an important and vital person to the Assassins or the Templars, which to varying degrees all the previous protagonists have been. He's not a promising new recruit who develops into one of the most respected people of all time like Ezio or Shay, he isn't the last hope of the Assassins like Connor, and he isn't a random person who stumbles into the Assassin-Templar conflict on his own while having his own goals like Edward. Like Altaïr, Arno is just an Assassin who isn't getting any special treatment from his superiors who expect him to do what he's told and therefore all the things previous characters would be applauded for are what get Arno repeatedly condemned and eventually [[spoiler:exiled by the Brotherhood for a time]] since he's breaking the Brotherhood's rules. In fact, most of the things that the Brotherhood criticises him for, such as killing people without permission and joining the Brotherhood out of revenge instead of believing in their ideals, are the exact same things Ezio did during ''Assassin's Creed II''.

* CanadaEh: He originally came from the portion of New France that became Quebec, leaving the Colonies just before the Colonial Assassin purge.

* TheNicknamer: He almost exclusively calls Arno "Pisspot". When Arno kills him, we learn that he killed Arno's father the same thing as well.

* TranquilFury: [[spoiler: As he sadisticly pushes his hidden blade into Germain's throat after the latter kills Elise]].

* TheFriendNobodyLikes: Has this reputation in the Assassin Council, aside from Mirabeau none of them seem to like him all that much. Bellec is an interesting subversion. On one hand he gives Arno a hard time, on the other hand he admires his RebelliousRebel nature [[spoiler:and believes that Arno will support his decision to murder Mirabeau and supplant the Council and go KillEmAll on the Templars. He was wrong. The Council criticize Arno for letting two Master Assassins die on his watch and later kick him out for good. He does eventually rejoin them at some point after the events of ''Dead Kings'' in 1794, eventually rising to the rank of Master Assassin]].

* TheCharmer: Is described as very charismatic.

* OddFriendship: Forms a bond with Elise, a Templar. She was his best friend as a child and his first love as well.

** Likewise, he claims the Assassins have done some of their best work after surviving ThePurge, specifically mentioning Masyaf as precedent for [[spoiler:him killing off flawed Assassin leadership.]] He misses the rather critical point that [[spoiler:there were ''two'' Purges at Masyaf and the first one, led by Abbas, almost brought down the entire Brotherhood.]]

* EarnYourHappyEnding: Possibly as the [[spoiler:[[Film/AssassinsCreed2016 2016 film]] implies that Arno is the ancestor to Callum Lynch, meaning that despite losing Élise he might have been able to move on and start a relationship with someone else]].

** In terms of personality at the start of the game he's very similar to Ezio, as both are TheCharmer who join the Brotherhood due to the deaths of their father figures. However Ezio was the son of a highly respected family of Assassins in a BlackAndWhiteMorality story with most of his love interests having been allies to the Brotherhood to some extent, while Arno was raised by Templars and had ConflictingLoyalties due to his relationship with Élise while his story had far more elements of GreyAndGrayMorality. As a result Ezio's less complicated life meant he became far more respected by the Assassins, while Arno's journey was riddled with mistakes and issues with the Brotherhood.

* ConflictingLoyalties: Not only is he in love with a Templar, his Order's sworn enemy, he was unknowingly raised by the French Templar Grandmaster before he was murdered. [[ChildhoodFriendRomance Since the latter is the former's father,]] it's got an [[TheParagonAlwaysRebels interesting twist.]] He ultimately proves to be more loyal to Elise than the Brotherhood, prompting [[spoiler:Bellec to try to kill him and the Brotherhood to kick him out]].
