The Protagonist (Code Name: Nanashi)
Our hero, a normal Otaku turned Shadow Soul
NIRO bio: This unfortunate young man was recently attacked by Shadow Souls. In a rare occurrence, a certain Shadow Soul infused him with a taste of her power, for reasons of her own. Luckily, NIRO recovered him first, and has begun training him to defend his fellow otaku against the Shadow Souls' onslaught. For the time being, NIRO has granted him provisional agent status.- Canon Name: The manga adaptation gives him the name "Akihiro Tanaka."
- Hello, [Insert Name Here]: His "official" name for the game is Nanashinote , but the player is free to choose their own name for him. Either way, you'll never hear the other characters referring to him by name.
- The Voiceless: In a way. He doesn't have a voice actor unlike the rest of the main characters. At best, he only has the same voice clips as the Bandman NPCs you occasionally fight against.
Shadow Souls
Rui Fumizuki
Voiced by: Yōko Hikasa (Japanese), Erica Lindbeck (English)
- Aloof Dark-Haired Girl: She has long black hair and pale skin and is pretty reserved and distant in general, but she is still a sweet girl underneath all of that.
- The Gadfly: She likes to mess with others occasionally to get a reaction, as seen with Suzu and later Nanashi.
- Mysterious Waif: She's the one who saved Nanashi's life by giving him blood mouth-to-mouth and she is the center of the game's plot in all of the routes by virtue of being the main heroine and the next Mother Soul
- Older Than They Look: She looks 17, but her actual age is unknown since Shadow Souls don't have a concept of age, although she says she might even be 10 years older than she looks
- Parasol of Pain: Her weapon is her umbrella, White Rose.
- Raven Hair, Ivory Skin: Crosses over with Eerie Pale-Skinned Brunette. She has been noted to be quite beautiful, as noted by Nanashi in the intro crawl. However they also denote her nature as a Shadow Soul instead of a human.
- Sugar-and-Ice Personality: At first, she is rather defensive against Nanashi, but as you gain her trust, she starts to open up more emotionally
