The Earth Defense Force, or EDF for short, is a global military force formed in the 1980s by the United Nations in response to an undisclosed extraterrestrial threat. During the Cycloids' invasion of Earth in the the 1990s, the EDF was able to expand their efforts in combating the alien menace, and their response netted them wider international recognition and an allowance to expand their resources by a vast amount. The EDF has set up bases all over the world, and have even established outposts on the Moon and Mars; this expanded presence has allowed them to fight back against a corrupt world government during the Pitfiend Crisis of the late 2000s and assist their top agent in toppling them and their chain of command.

Public opinion of the EDF is positive, and their goals and efforts to protect Earth from offworld threats has slightly lightened many people's outlooks on large military organizations; however, the EDF has drew criticism from several characters for their inconsistent handling of international affairs on Earth, due to the presence of various warlords, political movements, and despots in different third-world countries. The EDF has put in multiple mandates to not interfere with Earth's politics, despite many political organizations asking for the EDF to put their resources to better use than checking the skies for potential offworld threats.

The Earth Defense Force and the Allied Military Complex are closely linked, as many of the AMC's members used to be EDF agents and staff before leaving to form the Complex. James Stanfield previously served as an EDF field agent and Highwire was one of their officers before both of them left to found the AMC Squad. Despite this relation, the EDF has provided minimal support for the Complex and its Squad, their higher-ups have cited that the existence of the Complex is redundant and a waste of resources in the face of the EDF's vast military force and array of resources and funding. Regardless, many EDF personnel, from military to research staff, have left the organization to work with the Complex, stating personal reasons for their departure.

    In General
  • Hold the Line: In the mission "City Under Siege," where a platoon of EDF troopers have secured a bar from Cycloids and fended them off until the AMC Squad can come in and provide reinforcements.
  • Redshirt Army: The EDF's military forces don't tend to last long against enemy forces, compared to AMC's agents and MSCorp's private security force, and in some situations they get pushed back to the brink, which necessitates the Squad to jump in to their rescue. In fairness, the EDF soldiers are pitted against far tougher enemy forces, usually Cycloids.

    Alejandro
Voiced by: Alejandro

The man responsible for assigning James to form the AMC Squad.

  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He's a high-ranking official in the EDF who tells James to assemble a squad of elite agents in order to combat the growing threats against Earth, and gives him enough leeway in his assignment.

    General Graves
Voiced by: Zero X. Diamond

A general in the EDF who oversaw operations in Los Angeles during the Cycloids' invasion. Graves serves as the AMC Squad's handler during the return to LA in the mission "City Under Siege."

  • Mission Control: For "City Under Siege." He's the one who issues the AMC Squad's orders during the approach to Los Angeles, and congratulates them for a job well done after completing the mission.
  • Old Soldier: His portrait on the communications monitor depicts him with graying hair and weathered facial features. He's been in the game for a while, after all.
  • Reasonable Authority Figure: He grants the AMC Squad carte blanche on the mission, and only relays them their orders before they reach the city. After the Squad destroys the mothership hovering over LA and escapes, Graves congratulates them on completing the mission.

    Crew of the EDF Panama

The survivors of the EDF Panama, a a starship sent to investigate the ring world of Elysion an unspecified amount of time ago. They have been trapped on the ship ever since, stuck between fighting off the ring world's monsters and waiting for someone to rescue them.

  • A.I. Is a Crapshoot: The Panama's milbots have gone haywire and started attacking the EDF soldiers at some point prior to Mikko's arrival, due to a virus in the computer systems wreaking havoc on the AI. Mikko can fix it by hacking into the VR terminal in the security system, but he only does this after strongarming the acting leader of the surviving EDF force into serving him.
  • Distressed Dude: The surviving company leader of the EDF soldiers states that they've been trapped on the ship for a while, and have been waiting for someone to rescue them. However, Mikko isn't exactly keen on helping them out unless he pledges to serve him and grant whatever resources they have to him and his company.
