Blatant Lies / Interview with the Vampire (2022)

Go To

  • While trying to befriend Louis, Lestat claims that "I'll need protection from the wolves" (referring to the unscrupulous businessmen who would have no qualms taking advantage of a foreigner), which is a boldfaced lie because Lestat is a vampire who hunts humans every night.
  • Although Louis was enraptured by the Iolanta performance, he's so preoccupied with appearing manly (as a Closet Gay, he wants to avoid any association with the All Gays Love Theater stereotype) in front of his family that he pretends the opera bored him.
Louis: 'Bout some blind princess who didn't know she was a princess. Stomach got grumbling, left halfway through.
  • When Paul asks about the nature of Lestat's relationship with Louis, Lestat is caught off-guard for several seconds. He has been wooing Louis and even intends to seduce his Love Interest after the dinner, but he hadn't thought of formulating a ready-made falsehood to deflect any homophobic insinuations.
Paul: And what exactly is the nature of your relationship with my brother, Monsieur Lioncourt?
Lestat: (hesitates for seven seconds) Your brother and I have been discussing a few investment opportunities.
  • After Louis is turned, he puts on sunglasses when he visits his family to disguise the fact that his new vampiric irises are now green instead of the original brown when he was human. While reading his mother's thoughts, Florence assumes that his new fashion accessory is an indicator that he's gay, so he "corrects" her.
Louis: Eye doc says I gotta wear them from now forward. Sensitive eyes.
  • While flirting with Antoinette, Lestat whispers to her, "I don't bite." He's a vampire, of course he bites.
  • In response to Lestat cheating on him with Antoinette, Louis asks, "So, I can fuck whoever I want?" Lestat is internally screaming "NO!", but he knows Louis would accuse of him being a hypocrite if he denies his boyfriend the same freedom, so Lestat puts on a fake smile and answers:
  • Jonah remarks that Louis hasn't aged a day since they last met. Louis doesn't want him to know that he's now a vampire, so he dismisses his lack of ageing with "That's the moonlight lyin', that's all."
  • While shopping for a coffin for Claudia, Louis fibs to the undertaker as to why his daughter (who appears to be very much alive) needs one.
Undertaker: A loss in the family?
Louis: Nah. A heart condition. Yeah, she goin' pass real soon.
Undertaker: Poor child. Can't nothin' be done?
Louis: We tryin' to accustom her to the thought of... going home to God.
  • Daniel catches Louis telling a lie, and the latter concedes that he didn't want to share Claudia's journals with a brash young reporter that he met at a gay bar because they detail his shortcomings as a father.
Daniel: So, it begs the question, where were all these diaries in 1973?
Louis: Scattered. One in New Orleans, another in Paris.
    Daniel: Bullshit.
  • When Deputy Habersham inquires as to what Louis and Lestat use their incinerator for, the two vampires have to improvise on the spot.
Habersham: What is it incineratin'? Yard clippings?
    Louis: Waste.
    Lestat: Refuse.
    Louis: We sell incinerators.
Lestat: To various American cities. Where garbage collects, rats congregate, infection breeds. The problems can waylay even the most formidable municipalities.
Louis: And we bring our clients here to demonstrate the product.
  • After Louis finds out that Lestat has continued his affair with Antoinette, the latter attempts to placate his boyfriend with "I'll kill her soon." Louis knows he's lying, so he scoffs and walks away.
  • When a university student demands to know what Claudia was doing in the library because she's not permitted to be there, she claims to be the daughter of the janitor. Her mother died giving birth to her, so her statement is untrue.
Claudia: My mama works here. She cleans classrooms. I read while she's cleanin'.
  • Claudia doesn't like the fact that Bruce is hitting on her, so when he inquires about her age, she tries to dissuade him by replying that she's 104 years old. The date of her diary entry for this night is Nov. 11, 1930, so she was 27 at the time.
  • When the audience sees that Claudia is back at the townhouse even though she was on a train travelling to New York, it's obvious even without the following scene which shows what happened to her in the baggage car that Lestat forced her to return home.
Lestat: But to think our sister, impulsive tot that she is, was on her way to holiday in Europe. I'm so glad she decided the better of it.
  • When Lestat is analyzing the scent of the soon-to-be-dead MacPhail twin's blood, it's plain from Louis' unsteady tone that the answer he ad libs is pure fabrication.
Lestat: Quite drunk, this one. Rosemary... and something else. What is it, my love?
Louis: I-I think it's the gin.
  • In the Season 2 First Look Scene, Armand is already aware through Telepathy that Louis has encountered Lestat, yet the latter feigns ignorance.
Armand: Because I do believe I felt some trepidation when the name Lestat was uttered.
    Louis: (scoffs) Who?
