Awesome Music / Beau Travail

Go To

The Beau Travail soundtrack is positively brilliant, with dreamy pop for the hallucinatory club scenes where the characters let go and deeply operatic orchestral scores for the hypnotic training exercises.

  • "Simarik" by Tarkan in the opening scene of the movie perfectly captures a dream like club dance.
  • "Safeway Cart" by Neil Young as the group march through the desert. In a single, beguiling long take, Denis tracks the movement of these men through this arid, unforgiving environment, elevated by Young's tense, sparse songwriting and guitar work.
  • Excerpts from the Billy Budd Opera highlight the "face off" scenes and military routine exercises. It adds a truly epic heft to some otherwise mundane scenes.
  • "The Rhythm of the Night" by Corona, the music which Galoup uses to do a freestyle dance and break free from his guilt in the final scene.
