The Beau Travail soundtrack is positively brilliant, with dreamy pop for the hallucinatory club scenes where the characters let go and deeply operatic orchestral scores for the hypnotic training exercises.
- "Simarik" by Tarkan in the opening scene of the movie perfectly captures a dream like club dance.
- "Safeway Cart" by Neil Young as the group march through the desert. In a single, beguiling long take, Denis tracks the movement of these men through this arid, unforgiving environment, elevated by Young's tense, sparse songwriting and guitar work.
- Excerpts from the Billy Budd Opera highlight the "face off" scenes and military routine exercises. It adds a truly epic heft to some otherwise mundane scenes.
- "The Rhythm of the Night" by Corona, the music which Galoup uses to do a freestyle dance and break free from his guilt in the final scene.
