- It's fiendishly difficult, but you can save the Roman Empire, fighting off the barbarian hordes and forever changing the course of European history. It's also possible in the DLC for Belisarius to reforge the long-dead empire all by himself.
- More awesomeness if you save the Western half while remaining Christian. note
- Defending a city against an entire barbarian horde with only the local garrison. You have only four units of basic soldiers; one sword unit, one spear unit, one cavalry unit, and one archer unit. You position them at a choke point, and hope for the best. The officer in charge gives a Rousing Speech, your men grimly resolve to Hold the Line, and the barbarians rush your position with everything they've got. If you suceed, then the attacking tribe will be defeated and driven from your lands forever (or at least long enough for you to abandon the settlement and evacuate the people further into the empire). Even if you fail and the settlement is ravaged or massacred, you'll still have sent the enemy general and half of his army down to hell.
