Awesome / The Miracle Maker

  • The Son of Man gets one right from the off in his Establishing Character Moment when the cruel overseer of the synagogue construction tries to scourge Magdalene and He shows why you don't try that nonsense when He's also your head stone mason and carpenter. One who's used to a great deal of hard manual labour.
  • The Baptism at the River Jordan will give even the most jaded viewer goosebumps.
  • Jesus' victory over Lucifer in the desert, complete with Awesome Music.
Christ: You shall not put your God to the test! YOU SHALL NOT PUT YOUR GOD TO THE TEST!
    • At this point, Jesus has been wandering in the desert for days, and is likely to be exhausted, starving and thirsty. But he refuses to even create a loaf of bread, due to it being against the Scripture.
  • David Thewlis' Judas may not get much dialogue but boy does he make it count.
Judas Iscariot: What do they fear?! What do Kings and Emperors fear?! They fear... THE PEOPLE! When they rise up like one man! When they follow ONE MAN! (visions of the Messiah hewing through Rome's Legions and incinerating the Eagle Standard into ash with holy fire)
  • Easy to miss, but when Ben Azra, the Pharisee sent to spy on Jesus, just thinks that the Rabbi is full of it when he claims the paraplegic's sins to be forgiven. Our Lord hears all, including his smug, self-righteous condemnation. Then fixes him dead with a look and calls him out with a deliciously sarcastic: "let me ask you a question."
  • The exorcism of Mary Magdalene gets a full scene to itself instead of its mere mention in the Gospels. We see Christ yank her out of the demonic influence of seven evil spirits. His touch wakes her from her madness as they all scream and contort in terror through Mary's mouth. Also has Visual Effects of Awesome- as she slowly comes to being held by him; the film just as slowly changes from the 2D-Animation used for memories, visions, dreams, nightmares, and generally things that are "in someone's head" into the stop-motion "reality" of the rest of the movie. The visual effects during the possesion scene are just as awesome, as all of the Devil's servants first distort the reality Mary sees into a 2D nightmare until neither she nor the viewer know which way is up - and then recognise and fear Jesus as if the Day of Judgement has come early. Which for them, it has.
Demons!Mary: We know who you are! JESUUUS! SON OF THE MOST HIIIGH! GOD!
  • The resurrection of Lazarus. Especially with the accompaniment of the incredible score.
  • Jesus' passion in Gethsemane. Mel Gibson probably took a lot of inspiration from this scene and it's quite safe to say he didn't outdo this gem.
Satan: Go! Run! There's still time. Run. Run for it. (opens up the trees to make a straight passage to freedom) Come on! Run!
Christ: NO! ... NO! NOT MY WILL! IT'S NOT MY WILL! IT'S YOUR WILL! IT'S YOUR WILL, FATHER! YOUR - WILL - BE DONE!
  • Christ's appearance on the road after the crucifixion isn't nearly as loud as the many other moments, but immensely worthy in his own right.
Tamar: (Gasp!) I know who it is!
