• The whole substitute scheme. It requires Phaedrus to master reams of memories from Midir, learn how to recognize people he's never seen before and then interact with them without giving the game away, and it exploits the fact that the one person who could disprove their scam, Liadhan, can't because then she would have to explain that she blinded the crown prince.
• Phaedrus' heroic sacrifice at the end. After struggling to come into his own as the chieftain, he finally fully becomes the Horselord when he dies for the good of his people.
