Awesome / The Harder They Fall (2021)

Go To

  • Nat getting revenge on Scorpion, who was there the day Rufus killed his parents. He not only outdraws the man but hits him twice in mid-air before Scorpion finally hits the ground, dead. Even better Nat suggests the priest collect his bounty to help his church.
  • Pickett and Beckwourth taking out most of the Crimson Hood Gang. Beckwourth even shoots a gun out of Monroe's hand without looking.
  • Cuffee's introduction as they act as a bouncer in Mary's bar. Though Nat treats them with respect upon first meeting, the two patrons that follow, not so much (thinking them a pipsqueak). Cuffee promptly beats the daylights out of them both before ordering the men to be healed and their guns confiscated.
  • The introduction to Rufus's gang
    • Trudy, with no fear, waits on a train track as the train barrels towards her, ultimately forcing the conductor to stop. When he starts to insult her with an "N" word, she promptly shoots him.
    • Bill acting surprisingly cordial during the stickup as the gang move through the train. One of the riders tries to fight him and Bill obliges in what seems to be a hand-to-hand fight...before he just grabs a knife and shivs the guy's legs. Ouch.
    • Moving down the train, they find a lone soldier trying to defend the last car. It's obvious he's a kid and in over his head, but credit to him, he did try to put up a brave front. Even when he gets shot twice as a warning to the Lieutenant General (who likewise happens to be the soldier's father) to open the door.
    • Lieutenant General Abbott, tries to bluff that he doesn't have the key to free Rufus. Bill responds by shooting one of his men as Trudy shuts him down with a paper detailing Rufus's pardon, as well as Abbott and his men's execution. Said execution is for slaughtering a town, women and children included, taking the silver, and hiding it from their higher ups (which even Trudy and Bill, two outlaws with serious body counts, are disgusted at). The Lieutenant General quickly realizes he was given the assignment as a trap and, with no authority to save him now, promptly gives her the key to open Rufus's box.
    • And if you didn't think the introduction scene of Rufus killing Nat's parents was cold. Once he's freed, he gives the signal to shoot Abbott (to the distress of his son) then asks who can drive a train. None of Abbott's men answer, save his son. Rufus then orders his gang to kill all the soldiers save him and does an Unflinching Walk through the chaos of the soldiers' massacre. Few would doubt they had it coming.
  • Rufus confronting Wiley Escoe. Wiley does try to take him mano-a-mano but, again, Rufus's gang aren't exactly the honorable types. Rufus grabs a pistol, whips Wiley in the face and keeps going once he's on the ground, knocking out a few of his gold teeth in the process before ordering him to leave town or else.
  • A stupid plan as it was, credit to Mary for at least trying to enter the lion's den that was Redwood City (i.e Rufus's territory) incognito. She's found out instantly, but even under torture, she refuses to break. Even Trudy admits she's impressed by her fortitude.
  • When Nat comes to rescue Mary, he gives himself up largely to speak with Rufus face-to-face. Of course, they don't let Nat do so without having him strung up and beaten first. Dude takes it like a champ and promises Mary he'll kill them for hurting her.
  • Nat, Cuffee, and Pickett have to go into a predominantly white town to get the interest for Rufus's demand, a task which requires Cuffee to wear a dress to their chagrin. Cuffee gets their payback at a bank teller who laughs at their request for a withdrawal via pulling a pistol on her.
    • In fact the robbery itself is a very clean one: no deaths and Nat is very cordial to the patrons. He convinces one of the guards to drop their weapon (as he sees he's shaking and will very likely miss his shots), manages to single out the manager, and even nods his hat to him for cooperating with the robbery without hassle as he leaves.
  • The final showdown itself:
    • Bass tricks one of Rufus's men who mocked him into going to the stagecoach while he talks with Cherokee Bill. A second later, Pickett blows it up and the gang member along with it (the move acting as a warning for any civilians to get indoors). Likewise, when Nat comes into the town with the interest money, Pickett shoots the dynamite, blowing it up too. Essentially Nat's personal "screw you" to Rufus.
    • It was definitely a dick move on Cherokee Bill's part to shoot Beckwourth early during the count. But you gotta admit, it was a pragmatic one. Plus he has a point, Beckwourth was counting way too slow.
    • Pickett was already shown to be an eagle eye sharpshooter, but he practically decimates most of Rufus gang single-handily.
    • Bass himself strolls through the town gunning folks down left and right and, next to Cuffee, he's the only one that doesn't take an injury in the finale. No wonder he's such a feared marshal.
    • Nat and Mary Back-to-Back Badasses moment as they cover each other and shoot a number of the gang down.
    • Mary and Trudy's one-on-one. While on opposing sides, they have at least a mutual respect for the other and silently agree to fight with no shooting. And they don't hold back, grabbing any and everything they can to use against the other. Ultimately Mary wins by knocking Trudy out with the butt end of her shotgun, with a Victorious Roar to boot.
    • Cuffee avenging Pickett's death against Cherokee Bill with a proper quick draw, living up to the boast of their skills. Likewise, they honor the fallen Beckwourth by proclaiming he was faster and would've likely killed Cherokee Bill if he honored their duel.
    • Even Wiley gets his own in the finale by blowing up some of Rufus' henchmen with dynamite.
    • When some of the Crimson Hoods join the fray, Nat steels himself and charges out in the open to fight them despite being hit in the arm. With Bass's help, he manages to kill all of them off.
