- In one strip, Pixie starts to watch A Nightmare on Elm Street, oblivious to what it actually is. Brutus abruptly realizes what she's watching and the horrors Pixie will see. He reacts by smashing the TV with his head!
- In another strip, Pixie is looking in awe at a flower, oblivious to a hawk swooping down to grab her. Brutus suddenly bursts onto the scene, catching the hawk in his mouth in one jump.
- In one strip, Pixie mentions to Brutus to stay away from Randal, as he had once threatened to hurt her if she didn’t leave him alone. Brutus, without looking away or raising his voice, calmly and subtly threatens Randal in such a way that makes it clear that if he does follow through on such a threat, he will most certainly regret it. It also shows that he took Randal’s threat with such gravitas that he never leaves her alone with him in future strips, and considering his hostile demeanour towards him, hasn’t forgiven him for it either.
- Hugo standing up to Randal definitely counts. Despite being a Big Friendly Dog who isn't too bright, his friends have made sure he can take care of himself.
- After Pixie is abducted by a bird of prey - though her own cheery demeanour soon changes that to "adopted" - Brutus tracks the bird down and demands Pixie back. Upon being told that dogs can't climb trees, Brutus breaks out a grappling hook◊ and starts hauling himself up the tree. At this point, the eagle wisely concedes the conflict.
- A local rabbit learns the hard way not to tease Pixie.
