"I moved."

The action in Baby Driver is linked to its soundtrack in a way that few other movies can boast. Baby is listening to music almost constantly, so every scene in the movie is shot, edited, and timed to a specific song. With that in mind, it only seems right to organize all these awesome moments by the track that accompanies them.

As a Moments subpage, all spoilers are unmarked as per policy. You Have Been Warned.

The Opening Heist: Bellbottoms by the Jon Spencer Blues Explosion.

  • See for yourself.
    • Special mention goes to Baby's trick of losing the cops: after spotting two identical red cars on the highway going the opposite way, he spins around, gets between them and, once in a tunnel, gets in front of the left one and forces it into the middle by slamming the brakes, throwing off the cops when they exit the tunnel.
    • The five second shot of Baby drifting around the corner has been touted as being superior to most modern car films.

The Second Heist: Neat Neat Neat by The Damned.

  • Baby driving against a stone wall while avoiding a shooter.
  • The shooter himself stands out as a stellar example of a Badass Bystander. He was simply a veteran who happened to be at the bank that day, yet held his own against the crew. Granted, Bats probably would have killed him if not for Baby's influence, but he puts up more of a fight than pretty much anyone else in the film.

The big shootout with the butcher's goons: Tequila by Button Down Brass

  • Buddy and Darling's teamwork.
  • One last goon tries to drive away but everyone minus Baby just unloads on him.
    • Bats makes sure to finish the guy off by tossing a grenade in his car. and the explosion is still in time with the song!
  • The editing and SFX departments deserve some major props for perfectly syncing every gunshot with every beat!
    • More than that - each individual gun is synced to one specific part of each of the two drum kits used in the firefight. What makes that in particular that much more impressive is that they actually couldn't hear the music being played on set - the entire firefight was choreographed from memory!

The Final Heist: Intermission by Blur.

  • The way Baby kills Bats. After Bats needlessly kills a security guard, he gets in the car expecting Baby to drive off, but Baby just glares at him. Bats punches him and eventually aims his gun at Baby's head.
Bats: If you don't move this car, right now, I'm gonna blow your fucking head off!
Baby floors it and drives into the back of a road repair truck...
    Bats: Wha—? OH FUUUUU
...wrecking the car and impaling Bats on a piece of rebar.
    Buddy: What did you do?!
    Baby: I moved.

The Footchase: Hocus Pocus by Focus.

  • After the post office heist goes bad, Baby is forced to flee on foot through a park and a crowded shopping mall, evading the police and demonstrating considerable parkour skills. Turns out, he's plenty fast without his wheels, so long as he's got his music.

Confrontation at the Diner: Never Gonna Give Ya Up by Barry White.

  • Baby returns to the diner and finds Buddy waiting for him with a gun hidden in a newspaper. When a waitress comes out of the back asking how everyone's doing, Buddy turns to assure her they're all fine, turning around just in time to see the muzzle of Baby's own gun, right before he shoots him.

The Final Showdown: Brighton Rock by Queen.

  • Doc showing off a badass side by taking on several goons with a shotgun.
  • The climax with Baby fighting Buddy as he goes after Baby for getting Darling killed. It ends with Baby shooting Buddy in the leg, causing him to fall several floors down a parking garage where he lands on a burning car that quickly explodes.
    • Baby dodging Buddy's incoming car trying to run him over by leaping on the hood, run over the roof and then jump off the back in a skilled display of Combat Parkour.
      • The original script refers to the car jump as "some Jackie Chan shit" and it absolutely is.
    • From a villainous standpoint, Buddy going after Baby after Darling is killed qualifies. He escapes a police shootout, gets shot by Baby, steals a police car, gets into 3 crashes in the climax mentioned above, then gets his arm hit by a crowbar. NONE of this slows him down even a little as he's trying to kill Baby. Only his death by leg shot and falling onto his own burning car (which then explodes) stops him.
    • Gotta award points to Debora when she grabs a crowbar and attacks Buddy with it just as he has Baby at his mercy, especially as she's a civilian and was a Non-Action Guy up until that moment.
